Book Hypersonic Viscous Flow Over Slender Bodies Having Sharp Leading Edges

Download or read book Hypersonic Viscous Flow Over Slender Bodies Having Sharp Leading Edges written by Stanley G. Rubin and published by . This book was released on 1967 with total page 85 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The hypersonic viscous pressure interaction is treated by the development of a set of equations valid throughout the boundary layer, shock-wave structure and inviscid core. Primary interest is concerned with the nature of the leading edge continuum merged layer in which the shock wave and boundary layer are indistinguishable. Due to the parabolic nature of the equations, finite-difference solutions are attainable. The flow over a flat plate at zero incidence, as well as angle of attack, was considered. Velocity and state variable distributions across the viscous layer depict the formation of an outer shock wave and inner constant pressure boundary layer. The calculated values of surface pressure, heat transfer and shock jump conditions were at first significantly below the values predicted by strong interaction theory. Agreement was quite good downstream of the merged layer where Rankine-Hugoniot jump conditions were satisfied to within 8%. (Author).

Book An Analytical Investigation of Viscous Shock Layer Flow Near the Leading Edge of Slender Bodies Under Low Density Hypersonic Conditions

Download or read book An Analytical Investigation of Viscous Shock Layer Flow Near the Leading Edge of Slender Bodies Under Low Density Hypersonic Conditions written by J. R. Maus and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 57 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An analytical investigation and a numerical procedure are presented for calculating the fully viscous shock-layer flow near the sharp leading edge of both two-dimensional and axisymmetric slender bodies uses an implicit finite-difference technique in conjunction with wall slip boundary conditions; the shock structure is determined as part of the resulting solution. The mathematical model involves a more complete and accurate set of governing equations and boundary conditions. (Modified author abstract).

Book Rarefied Gas Dynamics

    Book Details:
  • Author : Carlo Cercignani
  • Publisher : Cambridge University Press
  • Release : 2000-02-28
  • ISBN : 9780521659925
  • Pages : 348 pages

Download or read book Rarefied Gas Dynamics written by Carlo Cercignani and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2000-02-28 with total page 348 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aim of this book is to present the concepts, methods and applications of kinetic theory to rarefied gas dynamics. After introducing the basic tools, problems in plane geometry are treated using approximation techniques (perturbation and numerical methods). These same techniques are later used to deal with two- and three-dimensional problems. The models include not only monatomic but also polyatomic gases, mixtures, chemical reactions. A special chapter is devoted to evaporation and condensation phenomena. Each section is accompanied by problems which are mainly intended to demonstrate the use of the material in the text and to outline additional subjects, results and equations. This will help ensure that the book can be used for a range of graduate courses in aerospace engineering or applied mathematics.

Book Propulsion Re Entry Physics

Download or read book Propulsion Re Entry Physics written by Michał Lunc and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-05-09 with total page 613 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Propulsion Re-Entry Physics deals with the physics of propulsion re-entry and covers topics ranging from inductive magnetoplasmadynamic (MPD) propulsion systems to launch systems and orbiting maneuvering systems. Problems of re-entry aerodynamics are considered, along with interaction problems in hypersonic fluid dynamics. Comprised of 31 chapters, this volume begins with a detailed account of the quasi-steady adiabatic vaporization and subsequent exothermic decomposition of a pure monopropellant spherical droplet in the absence of free and forced convection. The discussion then turns to results of calculations on MPD machines working in the intermittent and in the continuous mode; inductive plasma accelerators with electromagnetic standing waves; and spherical rocket motors for space and upper stage propulsion. Subsequent chapters focus on pulsed plasma satellite control systems; drag and stability of various Mars entry configurations; hypersonic laminar boundary layers around slender bodies; and effects of an entry probe gas envelope on experiments concerning planetary atmospheres. This book will appeal to students, practitioners, and research workers interested in propulsion re-entry and the accompanying physics.

Book Creep Deformation Patterns of Joints Under Bearing and Tensile Loads

Download or read book Creep Deformation Patterns of Joints Under Bearing and Tensile Loads written by E. G. Bodine and published by . This book was released on 1957 with total page 668 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The objective of the present investigation was to study the interaction of bearing and tensile loads on the creep behavior of joints. To achieve this objective, a simplified model was employed which contained many of the features found in riveted connections. Through the use of this simulated joint, an analysis of complex regions in actual joints could be effected. In the study, results for a number of tensile-to-bearing load ratios were obtained, and the results were analyzed.
