Book Magnetohydrodynamic hypersonic Viscous Flow Near the Stagnation Point of a Blunt Body

Download or read book Magnetohydrodynamic hypersonic Viscous Flow Near the Stagnation Point of a Blunt Body written by M. C. Smith and published by . This book was released on 1964 with total page 10 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The equations governing the hypersonic flow about a magnetized body are solved numerically. The solutions obtained illustrate the effects of Reynolds number and magnetic parameter on the structure of the applied magnetic field. The results show that, for magnetic parameters larger than a critical value, numerical solutions do not exist. A critical magnetic parameter is considered to result from an assumption of a given magnetic field at the shock. By increasing the conductivity, and thereby the induced magnetic field, the applied field at the shock disappears. This in turn violates the basic assumption of a finite field at the shock. It is concluded that the applied magnetic field can be defined only at the body where it is a natural characteristic of the problem. (Author).

Book On Hypersonic Blunt Body Flow Fields Obtained with a Time dependent Technique

Download or read book On Hypersonic Blunt Body Flow Fields Obtained with a Time dependent Technique written by John David Anderson (Jr.) and published by . This book was released on 1968 with total page 78 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: New results are presented for inviscid, supersonic and hypersonic blunt-body flow fields obtained with a numerical time-dependent method patterned after that of Moretti and Abbett. In addition, important comments are made with regard to the physical and numerical nature of the method. Specifically, numerical results are presented for two-dimensional and axisymmetric parabolic and cubic blunt bodies as well as blunted wedges and cones; these results are presented for zero degrees angle of attack and for a calorically perfect gas with gamma = 1.4. The numerical results are compared with other existing theoretical and experimental data. Also, the effects of initial conditions and boundary conditions are systematically examined with regard to the convergence of the time-dependent numerical solutions, and the point is made that the initial conditions can not be completely arbitrary. Finally, in order to learn more about the performance of the time-dependent method, a numerical experiment is conducted to examine the unsteady propagation and region of influence of a slight pressure disturbance introduced at a point on the surface of a blunt body.

Book Effects of a Magnetic Field on the Hypervelocity Flow about a Blunt Body

Download or read book Effects of a Magnetic Field on the Hypervelocity Flow about a Blunt Body written by Richard W. Ziemer and published by . This book was released on 1958 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An experimental investigation was made of the effect of an applied magnetic field on the bow shock of a blunt body in hypervelocity air flow. Quantitative measurements of the stand-off distance were made in a three-inch electromagnetic shock tube with free-stream velocities up to 22,000 feet per second. The test body was a hemispherical cylinder containing a coaxial pulsed magnet coil in the nose which produced field strengths at the stagnation point of up to 40 kilogauss. The application of the magnetic field displaced the bow shock upstream and the stand-off distance increased by a factor of 7.5 for the condition, nondimensional parameter = 69. The experimental results were compared with theory and good agreement was obtained within the range of experimental conditions. (Author).

Book Magnetohydrodynamic hypersonic Viscous and Inviscid Flow Near the Stagnation Point of a Blunt Body

Download or read book Magnetohydrodynamic hypersonic Viscous and Inviscid Flow Near the Stagnation Point of a Blunt Body written by M. C. Smith and published by . This book was released on 1965 with total page 13 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An investigation is presented of the hypersonic viscous and inviscid flow past a spherical body which contains a magnetic dipole field aligned with the flow. Local-similarity solutions of the flow field are assumed near the stagnation point. The solution found differs from previous solutions in that the magnetic field is defined on the body rather than at the shock. The numerical results indicate that the critical values of the magnetic interaction parameter no longer appear as in previous works and that the shock displacement is much larger than formerly found for magnetic interaction parameters less than one. The latter result suggests that a magnetic field is a more useful device for controlling the hypersonic flow about a body than previously thought. (Author).
