Book Hypersonic Gas Flow Past a Flat Plate with a Sharp Leading Edge

Download or read book Hypersonic Gas Flow Past a Flat Plate with a Sharp Leading Edge written by G. M. Poedintsev and published by . This book was released on 1969 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The problem of hypersonic gas flow over a plane plate with a sharp leading edge is discussed. It is assumed that the gas is perfect with a constant specific heat ratio and that the plate is thermally insulated. The problem is solved theoretically on the basis of a model which makes use of the geometrical characteristics of the Navier-Stokes equations. (Author).

Book A Critical Assessment of the Problem of Sharp Leading Edge of a Flat Plate in Hypersonic Flow

Download or read book A Critical Assessment of the Problem of Sharp Leading Edge of a Flat Plate in Hypersonic Flow written by Amolak C. Jain and published by . This book was released on 1964 with total page 42 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The advent of vehicles, moving many times the velocity of sound makes it necessary to understand clearly the various phenomena occuring near the sharp leading edge of a flat plate. A few theoretical attempts to tackle this problem are made and several experiments are performed at various places. Unfortunately wide areas of disagree ment exist between the various theoretical investigations and experimental results. It is the purpose of the note to try to gather some useful information from the available literature on this subject and present some suggestions which might be useful or worth consideration in any future attempt of solving this problem. Book The Sharp Leading Edge Problem in Hypersonic Flow

Download or read book The Sharp Leading Edge Problem in Hypersonic Flow written by Hakuro Oguchi and published by . This book was released on 1960 with total page 86 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the present paper the problem of hypersonic viscous flow past a semi-infinite flat plate with a sharp leading edge is considered. The study is concerned primarily with the rarefied flow region close enough to the leading edge that there is no longer an inviscid layer but where the shock wave is still thin. The solution which is obtained is shown to approach a wedge-like flow near the leading edge with a straight induced shock wave.

Download or read book Rarefied Gas Dynamics written by Carlo Cercignani and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2000-02-28 with total page 348 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aim of this book is to present the concepts, methods and applications of kinetic theory to rarefied gas dynamics. After introducing the basic tools, problems in plane geometry are treated using approximation techniques (perturbation and numerical methods). These same techniques are later used to deal with two- and three-dimensional problems. The models include not only monatomic but also polyatomic gases, mixtures, chemical reactions. A special chapter is devoted to evaporation and condensation phenomena. Each section is accompanied by problems which are mainly intended to demonstrate the use of the material in the text and to outline additional subjects, results and equations. This will help ensure that the book can be used for a range of graduate courses in aerospace engineering or applied mathematics.

Book On Hypersonic Viscous Flow Near a Sharp Leading Edge

Download or read book On Hypersonic Viscous Flow Near a Sharp Leading Edge written by Richard W. Garvine and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Theoretical inquiry is made into the high speed viscous flow past a sharp-edged flat plate whose surface is aligned with the oncoming flow. Basic information is sought concerning the fundamental nature of the flow field in regions near the leading edge. The role of upstream conditions is found to be fundamental. Study is made of the viscous layer region on the two-dimensional flat plate ahead of the strong interaction region. The Navier-Stokes equations are applied to the flow up to the point where continum treatments are no longer justifiable. Two initial velocity profiles were assumed in order to examine the details of the theory. Neither form proved to yield realistic flow fields in the light of experimental results. Computations from these two profile forms, however, did serve to bring out the sensitivity of the flow throughout the viscous layer region to initial conditions. It is concluded, in consequence, that the flow cannot be described by similar solutions or other solutions which ignore these initial values. (Author).

Book Theoretical Analysis of Near free molecule Hypersonic Flow at the Sharp Leading Edge of a Flat Plate

Download or read book Theoretical Analysis of Near free molecule Hypersonic Flow at the Sharp Leading Edge of a Flat Plate written by A. F. Charwat and published by . This book was released on 1963 with total page 70 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The initial interactions between a hypersonic free stream and molecules emitted (reflected diffusely) by a cold flat plate immediately downstream of its sharp leading edge are analyzed by near-free-molecule theory. The results give the variations of the pressure, shear, and heat transfer at the wall. These are found to in crease downstream from the leading edge and reach a maximum plateau, and a subsequent decay of the wall-transfer properties to continuum boundary-layer values can be inferred. The magnitude and location of this plateau compare well with available viscous pressure interaction data. An indication of the initial growth rate of the disturbed merged layer is also obtained from the analysis. It is found that this region is wedgelike and has a slope of approximately 45 deg for all hypersonic Mach numbers and for wall to- free-stream-temperature ratios of the order of unit.

Book On the Hypersonic Sharp Leading Edge Problem for Bodies Other Than Flat Plates

Download or read book On the Hypersonic Sharp Leading Edge Problem for Bodies Other Than Flat Plates written by Jay M. Solomon and published by . This book was released on 1965 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The flow near the tip of pointed nosed bodies in hypersonic flight is considered. In particular, the region where continuum concepts are applicable, but where boundary layer theory is no longer valid, is studied using the model proposed by Oguchi for the flat plate problem. Both two-dimensional and axiallysymmetric bodies are considered. Solutions are obtained in the form of expansions valid near the nose tip. The surface pressure is found to approach a finite value as the tip is approached; numerical results for this limit value are obtained for various wall to total temperature ratios and tip semi-vertex angles. (Author).

Book On the Newtonian Hypersonic Strong interaction Theory for Flow Past a Flat Plate

Download or read book On the Newtonian Hypersonic Strong interaction Theory for Flow Past a Flat Plate written by William B. Bush and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 19 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The viscous hypersonic flow past the leading edge of a sharp flat plate, whose surface is parallel to an oncoming uniform flow, is analysed on the basis of a continuum model consisting of the Navier-Stokes equations and the velocity-slip and temperature-jump wall boundary conditions. It is assumed that the model fluid is a perfect gas having constant specific heats, a constant Prandtl number whose numerical value is order unity, and a normal viscosity coefficient varying as a power of the absolute temperature. Limiting forms of the solutions for such a flow are studied as: (1) the free-stream Mach number, M, goes to infinity; (2) the free-stream Reynolds number based upon the distance from the leading edge goes to infinity; and (3) the 'Newtonian parameter' goes to zero.
