Book Hyperbolic Cross Approximation

Download or read book Hyperbolic Cross Approximation written by Dinh Dũng and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-11-02 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a systematic survey of classical and recent results on hyperbolic cross approximation. Motivated by numerous applications, the last two decades have seen great success in studying multivariate approximation. Multivariate problems have proven to be considerably more difficult than their univariate counterparts, and recent findings have established that multivariate mixed smoothness classes play a fundamental role in high-dimensional approximation. The book presents essential findings on and discussions of linear and nonlinear approximations of the mixed smoothness classes. Many of the important open problems explored here will provide both students and professionals with inspirations for further research.

Book Sparse Grids and Applications Munich 2018

Download or read book Sparse Grids and Applications Munich 2018 written by Hans-Joachim Bungartz and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-03-14 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sparse grids are a popular tool for the numerical treatment of high-dimensional problems. Where classical numerical discretization schemes fail in more than three or four dimensions, sparse grids, in their different flavors, are frequently the method of choice. This volume of LNCSE presents selected papers from the proceedings of the fifth workshop on sparse grids and applications, and demonstrates once again the importance of this numerical discretization scheme. The articles present recent advances in the numerical analysis of sparse grids in connection with a range of applications including uncertainty quantification, plasma physics simulations, and computational chemistry, to name but a few.

Book Sparse Grids and Applications Munich 2012

Download or read book Sparse Grids and Applications Munich 2012 written by Jochen Garcke and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2014-04-11 with total page 345 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sparse grids have gained increasing interest in recent years for the numerical treatment of high-dimensional problems. Whereas classical numerical discretization schemes fail in more than three or four dimensions, sparse grids make it possible to overcome the “curse” of dimensionality to some degree, extending the number of dimensions that can be dealt with. This volume of LNCSE collects the papers from the proceedings of the second workshop on sparse grids and applications, demonstrating once again the importance of this numerical discretization scheme. The selected articles present recent advances on the numerical analysis of sparse grids as well as efficient data structures, and the range of applications extends to uncertainty quantification settings and clustering, to name but a few examples.

Book Monte Carlo and Quasi Monte Carlo Methods 2012

Download or read book Monte Carlo and Quasi Monte Carlo Methods 2012 written by Josef Dick and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-12-05 with total page 680 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book represents the refereed proceedings of the Tenth International Conference on Monte Carlo and Quasi-Monte Carlo Methods in Scientific Computing that was held at the University of New South Wales (Australia) in February 2012. These biennial conferences are major events for Monte Carlo and the premiere event for quasi-Monte Carlo research. The proceedings include articles based on invited lectures as well as carefully selected contributed papers on all theoretical aspects and applications of Monte Carlo and quasi-Monte Carlo methods. The reader will be provided with information on latest developments in these very active areas. The book is an excellent reference for theoreticians and practitioners interested in solving high-dimensional computational problems arising, in particular, in finance, statistics and computer graphics.

Book Singular Integral Operators

Download or read book Singular Integral Operators written by Solomon G. Mikhlin and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1987 with total page 530 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present edition differs from the original German one mainly in the following addi tional material: weighted norm inequalities for maximal functions and singular opera tors (§ 12, Chap. XI), polysingular integral operators and pseudo-differential operators (§§ 7, 8, Chap. XII), and spline approximation methods for solving singular integral equations (§ 4, Chap. XVII). Furthermore, we added two subsections on polynomial approximation methods for singular integral equations over an interval or with dis continuous coefficients (Nos. 3.6 and 3.7, Chap. XVII). In many places we incorporated new results which, in the vast majority, are from the last five years after publishing the German edition (note that the references are enlarged by about 150 new titles). S. G. Mikhlin wrote §§ 7, 8, Chap. XII, and the other additions were drawn up by S. Prossdorf. We wish to express our deepest gratitude to Dr. A. Bottcher and Dr. R. Lehmann who together translated the text into English carefully and with remarkable expertise.

Book Integral Equations with Difference Kernels on Finite Intervals

Download or read book Integral Equations with Difference Kernels on Finite Intervals written by Lev A. Sakhnovich and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1995-01-26 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Optimal synthesis, light scattering, and diffraction on a ribbon are just some of the applied problems for which integral equations with difference kernels are employed. The same equations are also met in important mathematical problems such as inverse spectral problems, nonlinear integral equations, and factorization of operators. On the basis of the operator identity method, the theory of integral operators with difference kernels is developed here, and the connection with many applied and theoretical problems is studied. A number of important examples are analyzed.

This book was released on 2015-07-30 with total page 537 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In an attempt to introduce application scientists and graduate students to the exciting topic of positive definite kernels and radial basis functions, this book presents modern theoretical results on kernel-based approximation methods and demonstrates their implementation in various settings. The authors explore the historical context of this fascinating topic and explain recent advances as strategies to address long-standing problems. Examples are drawn from fields as diverse as function approximation, spatial statistics, boundary value problems, machine learning, surrogate modeling and finance. Researchers from those and other fields can recreate the results within using the documented MATLAB code, also available through the online library. This combination of a strong theoretical foundation and accessible experimentation empowers readers to use positive definite kernels on their own problems of interest.
