Book WHO Guidelines on Hand Hygiene in Health Care

Download or read book WHO Guidelines on Hand Hygiene in Health Care written by World Health Organization and published by World Health Organization. This book was released on 2009 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The WHO Guidelines on Hand Hygiene in Health Care provide health-care workers (HCWs), hospital administrators and health authorities with a thorough review of evidence on hand hygiene in health care and specific recommendations to improve practices and reduce transmission of pathogenic microorganisms to patients and HCWs. The present Guidelines are intended to be implemented in any situation in which health care is delivered either to a patient or to a specific group in a population. Therefore, this concept applies to all settings where health care is permanently or occasionally performed, such as home care by birth attendants. Definitions of health-care settings are proposed in Appendix 1. These Guidelines and the associated WHO Multimodal Hand Hygiene Improvement Strategy and an Implementation Toolkit (http://www.who.int/gpsc/en/) are designed to offer health-care facilities in Member States a conceptual framework and practical tools for the application of recommendations in practice at the bedside. While ensuring consistency with the Guidelines recommendations, individual adaptation according to local regulations, settings, needs, and resources is desirable. This extensive review includes in one document sufficient technical information to support training materials and help plan implementation strategies. The document comprises six parts.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Placing meanings of health and disease at the center of modern Chinese consciousness, Ruth Rogaski reveals how hygiene became a crucial element in the formulation of Chinese modernity in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Rogaski focuses on multiple manifestations across time of a single Chinese concept, weisheng—which has been rendered into English as "hygiene," "sanitary," "health," or "public health"—as it emerged in the complex treaty-port environment of Tianjin. Before the late nineteenth century, weisheng was associated with diverse regimens of diet, meditation, and self-medication. Hygienic Modernity reveals how meanings of weisheng, with the arrival of violent imperialism, shifted from Chinese cosmology to encompass such ideas as national sovereignty, laboratory knowledge, the cleanliness of bodies, and the fitness of races: categories in which the Chinese were often deemed lacking by foreign observers and Chinese elites alike.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How often did our ancestors bathe? How often did they wash their clothes and change them? What did they understand cleanliness to be? Why have our hygienic habits changed so dramatically over time? In short, how have we come to be so clean? The Clean Body explores one of the most fundamental and pervasive cultural changes in Western history since the seventeenth century: the personal hygiene revolution. In the age of Louis XIV bathing was rare and hygiene was mainly a matter of wearing clean underclothes. By the late twentieth century frequent – often daily – bathing had become the norm and wearing freshly laundered clothing the general practice. Cleanliness, once simply a requirement for good health, became an essential element of beauty. Beneath this transformation lay a sea change in understandings, motives, ideologies, technologies, and practices, all of which shaped popular habits over time. Peter Ward explains that what began as an urban bourgeois phenomenon in the later eighteenth century became a universal condition by the end of the twentieth, touching young and old, rich and poor, city dwellers and country residents alike. Based on a wealth of sources in English, French, German, and Italian, The Clean Body surveys the great hygienic transformation that took place across Europe and North America over the course of four centuries.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There are 17 comprehensive and detailed Sustainable Development Goals, which are all interlinked. Although access to water, sanitation, and hygiene is a human right, billions of people in developing countries are still faced with daily challenges accessing even the most basic of services, specifically the poor and vulnerable in communities. Hygiene is an important aspect for women/girls to access the economic, educational, and social opportunities they deserve. Proper hygiene removes disease as a barrier for equality, economic growth, and more. The role of hygiene in water, sanitation, and infections must be addressed from both scientific and social perspectives. This book provides the reader with an analysis of hygiene behaviors and practices and provides evidence-based examples in a number of developing countries.

Book excerpt: "All children should learn to observe the essential principles of physiology and hygiene ... such instruction and training must be assumed by the schools. ... There is no real separation between home and school. The child's life is unified, hence these problems must be stated and discussed in such a way that the reference is to the whole life, and teh school instruction should carry over to home interests and home experiences. This book is written from this point of view, and with the hope that those who study it may be helped in forming rational habits of right living."--Preface.

Book The Seven Essentials to Life and Health

Download or read book The Seven Essentials to Life and Health written by G. D'Estin Ballou and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-05-03 with total page 428 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Seven Essentials to Life and Health: A Practical, Primary Treatise on Hygiene There is still too wide a chasm between the people and the medical profession. The only way to narrow this chasm is to narrow that other gulf that lies be tween both classes and a true knowledge of Hygiene. The Ancient Greeks had a goddess Hygieia, who was fabled to preside over the health of the people. Hence the modems have named that science which treats of the preservation of health, Hygiene. Very few today even among educated professional people have a well classified knowledge of Hygiene. The great majority are still feeling their way toward the light. It is the privilege of every human being to know all that is possible for him to comprehend, of his own being and body and his relations to this life and world. It is necessary to know something about ourselves, to prevent that useless worry and wear and waste, that so soon destroys all the harmony of existence, ren ders us of little account, and ends in the cutting short of a miserable existence. To be hygienic even in spots may add years to one's life and these years may be years of joyful usefulness.
