Book Ocean Optics

    Book Details:
  • Author : Richard W. Spinrad
  • Publisher : Oxford University Press on Demand
  • Release : 1994
  • ISBN : 0195068432
  • Pages : 302 pages

Download or read book Ocean Optics written by Richard W. Spinrad and published by Oxford University Press on Demand. This book was released on 1994 with total page 302 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the publication of Jerlov's classic volume on optical oceanography in 1968, the ability to predict or model the submarine light field, given measurements of the inherent optical properties of the ocean, has improved to the point that model fields are very close to measured fields. In the last three decades, remote sensing capabilities have fostered powerful models that can be inverted to estimate the inherent optical properties closely related to substances important for understanding global biological productivity, environmental quality, and most nearshore geophysical processes. This volume presents an eclectic blend of information on the theories, experiments, and instrumentation that now characterize the ways in which optical oceanography is studied. Through the course of this interdisciplinary work, the reader is led from the physical concepts of radiative transfer to the experimental techniques used in the lab and at sea, to process-oriented discussions of the biochemical mechanisms responsible for oceanic optical variability. The text will be of interest to researchers and students in physical and biological oceanography, biology, geophysics, limnology, atmospheric optics, and remote sensing of ocean and global climate change.

Book Light and Water

    Book Details:
  • Author : Curtis D. Mobley
  • Publisher :
  • Release : 1994
  • ISBN :
  • Pages : 624 pages

Download or read book Light and Water written by Curtis D. Mobley and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 624 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume offers a treatment of radiative transfer theory in a format tailored to the specific needs of optical oceanography, with applications to real problems. It develops the basic theory and reviews the current literature. Numerical methods for solving radiative transfer equations are then detailed, with equations describing transpectral effects, internal surfaces, and surface effects. Equations governing the propagation of visible light across air-water surfaces and within water bodies are also explained.

Book Optical Properties and Remote Sensing of Multicomponental Water Bodies

Download or read book Optical Properties and Remote Sensing of Multicomponental Water Bodies written by Kh. I︠U︡ Arst and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2003-04-29 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The text covers the problems concerning optical properties and remote sensing of turbid and surface-polluted oceans and lakes. In four chapters Helgi Arst compares remote sensing data with data collected from similar examination of clean waters. Chapter 1 provides an overview of the main radiative and remote sensing characteristics and provides discussion on the properties of optically active substances (OAS) in the water and their variability and concentration, drawing on original data obtained in the Baltic Sea region. Chapter 2 focuses on the investigation of the influence of surface oil slicks on the reflection and absorption of solar radiation for both calm and ruffled sea surfaces. A model is provided for determining the temperature and the reflected component in upwelling rough seas. Chapter 3 provides remote sensing results obtained mainly for the Baltic Sea region, including some lakes. Correlations between the concentrations of OAS, water transparency and total remote sensing reflectance are investigated. Chapter 4 deals with subsurface irradiance and optical classification of turbid waters. This chapter analyses the different criteria of the euphotic depth, drawing on a semi-empirical model for the estimation of underwater light scattering. The conclusion provides discussion on the results obtained.

Book Marine Light Field Statistics

Download or read book Marine Light Field Statistics written by Ronald E. Walker and published by Wiley-Interscience. This book was released on 1994-08-29 with total page 704 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A comprehensive treatment of the light field fluctuations observed below and above the ocean surface caused by air-sea interaction effects, which are light reflection and refraction from the wind roughened sea under clear and overcast conditions as well as whitecaps. Natural light reflected from the sea surface is used to demonstrate how some mathematical procedures can be adapted to model and interpret statistical properties of reflected light. Contains the latest developments regarding hydrologic optics including bi-optical water characteristics.

Book Bio optical Modeling and Remote Sensing of Inland Waters

Download or read book Bio optical Modeling and Remote Sensing of Inland Waters written by Deepak R. Mishra and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2017-04-28 with total page 332 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bio-optical Modeling and Remote Sensing of Inland Waters presents the latest developments, state-of-the-art, and future perspectives of bio-optical modeling for each optically active component of inland waters, providing a broad range of applications of water quality monitoring using remote sensing. Rather than discussing optical radiometry theories, the authors explore the applications of these theories to inland aquatic environments. The book not only covers applications, but also discusses new possibilities, making the bio-optical theories operational, a concept that is of great interest to both government and private sector organizations. In addition, it addresses not only the physical theory that makes bio-optical modeling possible, but also the implementation and applications of bio-optical modeling in inland waters. Early chapters introduce the concepts of bio-optical modeling and the classification of bio-optical models and satellite capabilities both in existence and in development. Later chapters target specific optically active components (OACs) for inland waters and present the current status and future direction of bio-optical modeling for the OACs. Concluding sections provide an overview of a governance strategy for global monitoring of inland waters based on earth observation and bio-optical modeling. Presents comprehensive chapters that each target a different optically active component of inland waters Contains contributions from respected and active professionals in the field Presents applications of bio-optical modeling theories that are applicable to researchers, professionals, and government agencies
