Book excerpt: Sudden death among sewage workers is the most familiar form of hydrogen sulphide poisoning. This colorless, flammable gas has a characteristic odor of rotten eggs. It is produced naturally and as a result of human activity. Natural sources include nonspecific and anaerobic bacterial reduction of sulphates and sulphur-containing organic compounds. Hydrogen sulphide is found naturally in crude petroleum, natural gas, volcanic gases, and hot springs. It is also found in ground water. It is released from stagnant or polluted waters and manure or coal pits. In the industry, it is used as an intermediate in the manufacture of sulphuric acid and inorganic sulphides and as an agricultural disinfectant.--Publisher's description.

This book was released on 2017-05-17 with total page 502 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Solubility Data Series, Volume 50: Carbon Dioxide in Non-Aqueous Solvents at Pressures Less Than 200 kPa contains evaluated data for the solubility in non-aqueous solvents of carbon dioxide at a partial pressure not greater than 200 kPa. The Solubility Data Series is a project of Commission V.8 (Solubility Data) of the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC). The text has as its goal the preparation of a comprehensive and critical compilation of data on solubilities in all physical systems, including gases, liquids and solids. Chapters are devoted to providing data on the solubility of carbon dioxide in compounds such as alkanes, cyclic alkanes and alkenes, alcohols, solvents, other than alcohols, containing carbon, hydrogen and oxygen, and animal and vegetable oils and fats. Chemists will find the text extremely useful.

Book Alkaline Earth Hydroxides in Water and Aqueous Solutions

Download or read book Alkaline Earth Hydroxides in Water and Aqueous Solutions written by I. Lambert and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 390 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains evaluated data on the solubility of beryllium hydroxide, magnesium hydroxide, calcium hydroxide, strontium hydroxide and barium hydroxide in water and in a number of electrolyte and nonelectrolyte solutions in water. The alkaline earth hydroxides can be divided into two groups depending on the hydration of the solid. First, the sparingly soluble anhydrous beryllium, magnesium and calcium hydroxides, whose freshly precipitated solids are poorly crystalline and show decreasing solubility with aging, and whose solubility in water decreases with increasing temperature. Second, the soluble strontium and barium hydroxide octahydrates that form crystalline precipitates which do not show changes in solubility on aging, and whose solubility in water increases with increasing temperature.
