Book Catalytic Oxidations with Hydrogen Peroxide as Oxidant

Download or read book Catalytic Oxidations with Hydrogen Peroxide as Oxidant written by G. Strukul and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-14 with total page 287 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hydrogen peroxide is a chemical that is becoming increasingly fashionable as an oxidant, both in industry and in academia and whose production is expected to increase significantly in the next few years. This growth in interest is largely due to environmental considerations related to the clean nature of hydrogen peroxide as an oxidant, its by-product being only water. To date this chemical has largely been employed as a non-selective oxidant in operations like the bleaching of paper, cellulose and textiles, or in the formulation of detergents, and only to a minimal extent in the manufacture of organic chemicals. This book has been organized to cover the different aspects of the chemistry of hydrogen peroxide. The various chapters into which the book is divided have been written critically by the authors with the general aim of stimulating new ideas and emphasizing those aspects that are likely to lead to new developments in organic synthesis in the coming future.

Book Hydrogen Peroxide Metabolism in Health and Disease

Download or read book Hydrogen Peroxide Metabolism in Health and Disease written by Margreet C M Vissers and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-10-19 with total page 456 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Much of the biology of oxidative stress and oxidative signalling centres on the generation and handling of hydrogen peroxide. The overall aim for this book would be to provide an insightful and useful forum to assist with the understanding of the relevance of hydrogen peroxide generation and how this is managed in human biology. The target audience would be those who currently have an interest in the generation of ROS, but who do not have expertise in chemistry, as well as those experts in the chemistry of oxidative stress, but without detailed understanding of the biologically relevant setting. We would aim to bridge the gap in understanding between chemistry and biology.

Book Nitric Oxide and Hydrogen Peroxide Signaling in Higher Plants

Download or read book Nitric Oxide and Hydrogen Peroxide Signaling in Higher Plants written by Dharmendra K. Gupta and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-03-28 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes nitric oxide (NO) and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) functions in higher plants. Much progress has been made in the field of NO and H2O2 research regarding the various mechanisms and functions of these two molecules, particularly regarding stress tolerance and signaling processes, but there are still gaps to be filled. NO and H2O2 are both crucial regulators of development, and act as signaling molecules at each step of the plant lifecycle, while also playing important roles in biotic and abiotic responses to environmental cues. The book summarizes key advances in the field of NO and H2O2 research, focusing on a range of processes including: signaling, metabolism, seed germination, development, sexual reproduction, fruit ripening, and defense.

Book Applications of Hydrogen Peroxide and Derivatives

Download or read book Applications of Hydrogen Peroxide and Derivatives written by C W Jones and published by Royal Society of Chemistry. This book was released on 2007-10-31 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Simple, but beautifully versatile. Perhaps not a description many would choose for hydrogen peroxide, but an accurate one none the less, and this unique book explains the reasons behind the description. Beginning with an historical overview, and guidelines for the safe handling of peroxygens, Applications of Hydrogen Peroxide and Derivatives goes on to cover key activation mechanisms, organic functional group oxidations and the use of hydrogen peroxide with heterogeneous catalysts. The clean-up of environmental pollutants; chemical purification; and extraction of metals from their ores are also discussed in detail, using actual examples from industry. The versatility of this reagent may well prove to be a key to integrated pollution control in the future. This book should therefore be read by academics and industrialists at all levels, to encourage wider applications of the use of hydrogen peroxide in laboratories.

Book Hypertrophic Ecosystems

    Book Details:
  • Author : J. Barica
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2012-12-06
  • ISBN : 9400992033
  • Pages : 337 pages

Download or read book Hypertrophic Ecosystems written by J. Barica and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 337 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The idea of convening an international workshop on hypertrophic ecosystems originated during the 20th S.I.L. Congress in Copenhagen. A group of about 30 delegates met there in an informal gathering to discuss the specific problems of lakes which have reached a noxious stage of eutrophication. This ad hoc group realized its own specific identity within the limnological community and suggested the organization of a specialized future meeting on hypertrophic ecosystems. After two years of preparatory work, the workshop was fmally held in Vaxjo, Sweden, between September 10 and 14, 1979, on the premises of the University campus. The Institute of Limnology, University of Lund (Professor Sven Bjork), undertook the task of host and organizer. The City ofVaxjo and the University of Lund co-sponsored the event, which was held under the auspices and patronage of the Societas Internationalis Limnologiae. The objective of the workshop was to seek better understanding of highly-eutrophic, disturbed and unstable aquatic ecosystems (lakes, reservoirs and ponds developing noxious algal and bacterial blooms, fluctuating in their water quality on a daily and seasonal scale, producing gases, off-flavor and toxic substances, experiencing periodic anoxia and massive fish kills, etc.), Le., systems requiring corrective measures and new concepts for their solution beyond those generally accepted for 'normal' eutrophic systems.

Book Handbook of Oxidants and Antioxidants in Exercise

Download or read book Handbook of Oxidants and Antioxidants in Exercise written by C. Sen and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2000-02-16 with total page 1219 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Interest in the science of exercise dates back to the time of ancient Greece. Today exercise is viewed not only as a leisurely activity but also as an effective preventive and therapeutic tool in medicine. Further biomedical studies in exercise physiology and biochemistry reports that strenuous physical exercise might cause oxidative lipid damage in various tissues. The generation of reactive oxygen species is elevated to a level that overwhelms the tissue antioxidant defense systems resulting in oxidative stress. The Handbook of Oxidants and Antioxidants in Exercise examines the different aspects of exercise-induced oxidative stress, its management, and how reactive oxygen may affect the functional capacity of various vital organs and tissues. It includes key related issues such as analytical methods, environmental factors, nutrition, aging, organ function and several pathophysiological processes. This timely publication will be of relevance to those in biomedical science and was designed to be readily understood by the general scientific audience.

Download or read book Hydrogen Peroxide Health Benefits and Uses written by Barbara Moore and published by Speedy Publishing LLC. This book was released on 2013-06-06 with total page 27 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hydrogen peroxide or better known as H2O2 is a very common compound that is used to clean and disinfect wounds. It is coupled with betadine solution which cleans wounds and reduces the risk of infection. But what most of us don't know is that the lowly hydrogen peroxide may also be used in other ways and this is due to the efficient properties of this compound. Hydrogen peroxide appears clear and slightly viscous compared to water in room temperature. This compound is available in opaque plastic bottles and is sold in most drug stores or chemists.
