Spinnler and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 30 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The report describes results of continuing experiments in a laminar-diffusive mixing laser system. Flow conditions of H2 and F2 and other fuels and reactant gases are also presented.

Book Hydrogen Fluoride Chemical Laser A Demonstration of Pure Chemical Pumping II New Concepts in Fast Mixing Flow Systems

Download or read book Hydrogen Fluoride Chemical Laser A Demonstration of Pure Chemical Pumping II New Concepts in Fast Mixing Flow Systems written by Joseph F. Spinnler and published by . This book was released on 1969 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report describes results of continuing experiments directed toward chemical lasers in a flow system and a single-pulse system. A new laminar diffusive-mixing system for obtaining very fast mixing rates is described. Conclusive evidence for lasing action of hydrogen fluoride in the single-pulse system is offered. Certain theoretical considerations are discussed. Fast flow velocities; fast, reproducible mixing; simple flow patterns; and fast, truly homogeneous initiation reaction have been recognized as critical factors in successfully achieving laser action in a continuous-flow hydrogen-fluorine system and several limitations inherent in the initial approach have been removed. Book excerpt: The rapid development of lasers in the past few decades has led to their application in almost every field of science and technology. The idea that it should be possible to convert the energy released in chemical reactions of chemical lasers directly into coherent radiation resulted in the advent in the 1960s. These first chemical lasers, however, consumed much more energy to initiate the reaction than they emitted. The search for more ef ficient chemical lasing led to the utilization of chain reactions. However, care had to be taken to maintain the appropriate pressure. In 1970, it was demonstrated that the operation of chemical lasers at atmospheric pressure was also feasible, making it easier and cheaper to construct them. One of the advantages of chemical lasers is the wide range of radia tion wavelengths emitted by them: 1.3 - 26 ~m. The vibrational frequen cies of many molecules fall within this range so that they may convenient ly be used for the operation of such lasers. Progress in the development of chemical lasers is intimately con nected with advances in related fields such as gas dynamics, chemical reaction kinetics, and research into the energy relaxation and transfer processes in molecular systems.

Book Chemical Laser Pumping Technology

Download or read book Chemical Laser Pumping Technology written by L. Manson and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The feasibility of chemically pumping simulated HF/DF laser effluent gases was demonstrated. The reactive material used was calcuim prepared by precipitation from a solution in cryogenic anhydrous ammonia. The calcium contained within specially designed canisters reacted with a high temperature, low pressure equimolar mixture of HF, H2, and N2, produced by the reaction of hydrogen and fluorine in a combustion chamber which closely simulated laser effluent gases. Gas flow rates up to 1 gram/sec were absorbed by 100-gram calcium beds. System design studies were also conducted evaluating reactant requirements for various operational parameters such as duration, flow rate, acceptable gas pressure and thermal limitations. A conceptual design for a chemical pump was derived.

Book Pulsed Hydrogen fluoride Laser

Book excerpt: This report describes a pulsed hydrogen-fluoride laser which has been constructed at MRL. The laser delivers an energy of 7 J in a microsecond pulse from vibrational-rotational transitions in the wavelength region 2.6-3.1 micrometers. It simultaneously produces 1 mJ of energy in a 1 microsecond pulse from pure rotational transitions in the wavelength region 10-17 micrometers. Originator furnished keywords include: Chemical lasers, Hydrogen fluoride lasers, Electric discharge, Pulse discharge.

Book A New All Gas Phase Chemical Iodine Laser Scientists Developed and Demonstrated a New Chemically Pumped Laser

Download or read book A New All Gas Phase Chemical Iodine Laser Scientists Developed and Demonstrated a New Chemically Pumped Laser written by and published by . This book was released on 2002 with total page 4 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Solid-state lasers convert electrical energy into light using optical excitation. Although efficient, scientists continue research into scaling these devices for high-power applications. Chemical lasers efficiently convert energy derived from chemical bonds and reactions into laser photons. Scientists use chemical lasers for applications that require high-power, lightweight, and self-contained sources of laser radiation because of their inherent high efficiency and scalability. The two classes of chemical lasers are the hydrogen fluoride (HF) laser and the chemical oxygen-iodine laser (COIL).
