Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This edited review book on Godunov methods contains 97 articles, all of which were presented at the international conference on Godunov Methods: Theory and Applications, held at Oxford in October 1999, to commemo rate the 70th birthday of the Russian mathematician Sergei K. Godunov. The meeting enjoyed the participation of 140 scientists from 20 countries; one of the participants commented: everyone is here, meaning that virtu ally everybody who had made a significant contribution to the general area of numerical methods for hyperbolic conservation laws, along the lines first proposed by Godunov in the fifties, was present at the meeting. Sadly, there were important absentees, who due to personal circumstance could not at tend this very exciting gathering. The central theme o{ the meeting, and of this book, was numerical methods for hyperbolic conservation laws fol lowing Godunov's key ideas contained in his celebrated paper of 1959. But Godunov's contributions to science are not restricted to Godunov's method.

Book Lattice Gas Methods For Partial Differential Equations

Download or read book Lattice Gas Methods For Partial Differential Equations written by Gary Doolen and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2019-03-01 with total page 584 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although the idea of using discrete methods for modeling partial differential equations occurred very early, the actual statement that cellular automata techniques can approximate the solutions of hydrodynamic partial differential equations was first discovered by Frisch, Hasslacher, and Pomeau. Their description of the derivation, which assumes the validity of the Boltzmann equation, appeared in the Physical Review Letters in April 1986. It is the intent of this book to provide some overview of the directions that lattice gas research has taken from 1986 to early 1989.

This book was released on 2019-11-12 with total page 448 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A concise and up-to-date introduction to mathematical methods for students in the physical sciences Mathematical Methods in Physics, Engineering and Chemistry offers an introduction to the most important methods of theoretical physics. Written by two physics professors with years of experience, the text puts the focus on the essential math topics that the majority of physical science students require in the course of their studies. This concise text also contains worked examples that clearly illustrate the mathematical concepts presented and shows how they apply to physical problems. This targeted text covers a range of topics including linear algebra, partial differential equations, power series, Sturm-Liouville theory, Fourier series, special functions, complex analysis, the Green’s function method, integral equations, and tensor analysis. This important text: Provides a streamlined approach to the subject by putting the focus on the mathematical topics that physical science students really need Offers a text that is different from the often-found definition-theorem-proof scheme Includes more than 150 worked examples that help with an understanding of the problems presented Presents a guide with more than 200 exercises with different degrees of difficulty Written for advanced undergraduate and graduate students of physics, materials science, and engineering, Mathematical Methods in Physics, Engineering and Chemistry includes the essential methods of theoretical physics. The text is streamlined to provide only the most important mathematical concepts that apply to physical problems.

Book Concepts and Methods in Modern Theoretical Chemistry

Download or read book Concepts and Methods in Modern Theoretical Chemistry written by Swapan Kumar Ghosh and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2013-02-26 with total page 353 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Concepts and Methods in Modern Theoretical Chemistry: Statistical Mechanics, the second book in a two-volume set, focuses on the dynamics of systems and phenomena. A new addition to the series Atoms, Molecules, and Clusters, this book offers chapters written by experts in their fields. It enables readers to learn how concepts from ab initio quantum chemistry and density functional theory (DFT) can be used to describe, understand, and predict chemical dynamics. This book covers a wide range of subjects, including discussions on the following topics: Time-dependent DFT Quantum fluid dynamics (QFD) Photodynamic control, nonlinear dynamics, and quantum hydrodynamics Molecules in a laser field, charge carrier mobility, and excitation energy transfer Mechanisms of chemical reactions Nucleation, quantum Brownian motion, and the third law of thermodynamics Transport properties of binary mixtures Although most of the chapters are written at a level that is accessible to a senior graduate student, experienced researchers will also find interesting new insights in these experts’ perspectives. This book provides an invaluable resource toward understanding the whole gamut of atoms, molecules, and clusters.
