Book Computational Methods in the Management of Hydro Environmental Systems

Download or read book Computational Methods in the Management of Hydro Environmental Systems written by V. Nassehi and published by IWA Publishing. This book was released on 2007-01-01 with total page 295 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides concise, up-to-date and easy-to-follow information on an increasingly important area of hydro-environmental analysis and management. It covers important aspects of both surface and subsurface water quality management, as they are inseparable components of aquifers and the flow in physical domains occur in combination with the other. However, the main emphasis of the book is on the practical development and application of computer based algorithms, via appropriate schemes, to realistic problems. Mathematical theories are not discussed as they can be found in many expert books. All sections of the book include detailed descriptions of practical examples. It also, uniquely, gives explanations regarding the formulation of practical management schedules and tools for hydro-environmental systems. There is a lack of books dealing with the practical aspects of the application of computer modelling techniques to complex hydrodynamical phenomena, and this book has been written for professionals and researchers, especially those who are not trained mathematicians who, nevertheless, need to make managerial decisions. Computational Methods in the Management of Hydro-Environmental Systems will be an invaluable source of information for post-graduate level researchers and decision-makers who need to apply numerical modelling techniques to investigate hydrodynamic phenomena and pollutants dispersion in natural aquatic systems. Professionals and engineers, who now need to gain insights about the working of computer techniques for choosing appropriate schemes and applying them to realistic problems, will also value this work. Masters' level and final-year graduate students are also expected to benefit from the book.

Book Advances in Case Based Reasoning

Download or read book Advances in Case Based Reasoning written by Susan Craw and published by Springer. This book was released on 2003-08-02 with total page 668 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The papers collected in this volume were presented at the 6th European C- ference on Case-Based Reasoning (ECCBR 2002) held at The Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen, UK. This conference followed a series of very succe- ful well-established biennial European workshops held in Trento, Italy (2000), Dublin, Ireland (1998), Lausanne, Switzerland (1996), and Paris, France (1994), after the initial workshop in Kaiserslautern, Germany (1993). These meetings have a history of attracting ?rst-class European and international researchers and practitioners in the years interleaving with the biennial international co- terpart ICCBR; the 4th ICCBR Conference was held in Vancouver, Canada in 2001. Proceedings of ECCBR and ICCBR conferences are traditionally published by Springer-Verlag in their LNAI series. Case-Based Reasoning (CBR) is an AI problem-solving approach where pr- lems are solved by retrieving and reusing solutions from similar, previously solved problems, and possibly revising the retrieved solution to re?ect di?erences - tween the new and retrieved problems. Case knowledge stores the previously solved problems and is the main knowledge source of a CBR system. A main focus of CBR research is the representation, acquisition and maintenance of case knowledge. Recently other knowledge sources have been recognized as important: indexing, similarity and adaptation knowledge. Signi?cant knowledge engine- ing e?ort may be needed for these, and so the representation, acquisition and maintenance of CBR knowledge more generally have become important.

Book Review and Evaluation of Hydrodynamic Modeling for the Lower St Johns River Estuary

Download or read book Review and Evaluation of Hydrodynamic Modeling for the Lower St Johns River Estuary written by Lisa Roig and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 78 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The St. Johns River Water Management District and the U.S. Army Engineer District, Jacksonville, desire to quantify the hydrodynamic, sediment transport, and water quality processes of the Lower St. Johns River Estuary (LSJRE). To this end, a comprehensive numerical model development program is planned. In support of this effort, this report reviews the basic equations of estuarine hydrodynamics. Major hydrodynamic modeling technologies are compared and contrasted. The data requirements for application of a hydrodynamic model to the LSJRE are outlined. An approach for developing a system of models and monitoring programs for the LSJRE is recommended. Computer hardware and software issues that will affect the productivity of the modeling system are discussed. Estuarine modeling, Hydrodynamic modeling, Lower St. Johns River Estuary.

Book Estuarine and Coastal Hydrography and Sediment Transport

Download or read book Estuarine and Coastal Hydrography and Sediment Transport written by R. J. Uncles and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2017-08-17 with total page 363 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A practical guide to the latest remote and in situ techniques used to measure sediments, quantify seabed characteristics, and understand physical properties of water and sediments and transport mechanisms in estuaries and coastal waters. Covering a broad range of topics from global reference frames and bathymetric surveying methods to the use of remote sensing for determining surface-water variables, enough background is included to explain how each technology functions. The advantages and disadvantages of each technology are explained, and a review of recent fieldwork experiments demonstrates how modern methods apply in real-life estuarine and coastal campaigns. Clear explanations of physical processes show links between different disciplines, making the book ideal for students and researchers in the environmental sciences, marine biology, chemistry and geology, whose work relies on an understanding of the physical environment and the way it is changing as a result of climate change, engineering and other influences.
