Book Aerodynamic Characteristics of Three Planing tail Flying boat Hulls

Download or read book Aerodynamic Characteristics of Three Planing tail Flying boat Hulls written by Campbell C. Yates and published by . This book was released on 1947 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An investigation was made to determine the aerodynamic characteristics of three planing-tail flying-boat hulls which differed only in the amount of step fairing. The hulls were derived by altering the step and afterbody of a conventional flying-boat hull having a transverse step.

Book Hydrodynamic and Aerodynamic Tests of Models of Flying boat Hulls Designed for Low Aerodynamic Drag

Download or read book Hydrodynamic and Aerodynamic Tests of Models of Flying boat Hulls Designed for Low Aerodynamic Drag written by Starr Truscott and published by . This book was released on 1938 with total page 586 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: N.A.C.A. models 74, 74-A, and 75 were tested in the N.A.C.A. tank to determine their hydrodynamic properties and in the N.A.C.A. 20-foot wind tunnel to determine their aerodynamic properties. The forms of these models were derived from that of a solid of revolution having a lowe air drag, and the departures from the form of this low-drag body were the minimum considered to give satisfactory take-off performance. Model 74 has a rounded bottom with flared chines, a transverse step wit ha small fairing aft of it, and a pointed afterbody. Model 74-A has the same forme except for the removal of the fairing aft of the step. Model 75 has a pointed step and a horizontal afterbody derived from the form of the N.A.C.A. model 35 series.

Book Hydrodynamic Qualities of a Hypothetical Flying Boat with a Low drag Hull Having a Length beam Ratio of 15

Download or read book Hydrodynamic Qualities of a Hypothetical Flying Boat with a Low drag Hull Having a Length beam Ratio of 15 written by Arthur W. Carter and published by . This book was released on 1948 with total page 39 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An investigation of the hydrodynamic qualities of a hypothetical flying boat with a hll having a length-beam ratio of 15 was made in Langley tank no. 1. The hydrodynamic qualities of importance in practical operation determined in this investigation were the range of position of the center of gravity for take-off, landing stability, spray characteristics, and take-off performance. The results indicate that the hydrodynamic qualities of this low-drag hull are satisfactory and do no differ greatly from those of the related flying boat with the more conventional hull length-beam ratio of 6.

Book An Investigation of the Hydrodynamic Characteristics of a Dynamic Model of a Transonic Seaplane Design Having a Planing tail Hull

Download or read book An Investigation of the Hydrodynamic Characteristics of a Dynamic Model of a Transonic Seaplane Design Having a Planing tail Hull written by Archibald E. Morse (Jr.) and published by . This book was released on 1956 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An investigation was made of the hydrodynamic characteristics of a 1/17-size dynamic model of a 160,000-pound transonic seaplane design having a planing-tail hull with the center of gravity located 2.1 beams aft of the step. Longitudinal stability during smooth-water take-off and landing was satisfactory, and the landing behavior in waves was good. These results were similar to that of a previously tested planing-tail-hull model having the center of gravity slightly aft of the step. The thrust from currently available engines was sufficient to accelerate to take-off in 20 seconds in a distance of 2,530 feet (full-size) with a gross load of 160,000 pounds, and in 34 seconds in a distance of 4,320 feet with a gross load of 200,000 pounds. Spray characteristics were very good in smooth water and in waves.

Book Investigation of the Air compression Process During Drop Tests of an Oleo pneumatic Landing Gear

Download or read book Investigation of the Air compression Process During Drop Tests of an Oleo pneumatic Landing Gear written by James H. Walls and published by . This book was released on 1951 with total page 788 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A brief study has been made to evaluate the importance of the type of air-compression process on the loads produced on an oleo-pneumatic landing gear during impact and to determine the type of air compression process actually obtained during drop tests. A simplified analysis to determine the effect which different air-compression processes might have indicates that the value of the air-compression exponent should have relatively little effect on the landing-gear loads throughout most of the impact. The analysis of experimental data obtained in these tests shows that the polytropic exponent ranged from 1.01 to 1.10 for the condtions tested. The general trend of the data appears relatively independent of vertical contact velocity.
