Download or read book Hydraulic and Pneumatic Retainers Backup Rings Polytetrafluoroethylene PTFE Resin written by A-6C2 Seals Committee and published by . This book was released on 2020 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This specification and part standard specifies polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) resin material and the dimensional requirements for scarf-cut retainers (backup rings) previously specified by MIL-R-8791 and MIL-R-8791/1. The retainers are intended for use in hydraulic and pneumatic system components as anti-extrusion devices in conjunction with seals and O-rings. This document has been revised to: Clarify the use of these parts in glands other than MIL-G-5514 Update the references Add the requirement that no resizing of parts during the manufacturing process is permitted Delete the dimensional stability test requirement (since this test is performed on each lot of molded material as required by AMS3678) Include some editorial improvements.

Book Retainers Backup Rings Hydraulic and Pneumatic Polytetrafluoroethylene Resin Solid Un Cut For Use in AS4716 Glands

Download or read book Retainers Backup Rings Hydraulic and Pneumatic Polytetrafluoroethylene Resin Solid Un Cut For Use in AS4716 Glands written by A-6C2 Seals Committee and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This SAE Aerospace Standard (AS) covers solid, uncut polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) retainers (backup rings) for use in glands in accordance with AS4716. They are for use in hydraulic and pneumatic system components as anti-extrusion devices in conjunction with O-rings, packings and other elastomeric seals for static and dynamic applications.Because of the construction of groove dimensions, backup rings specific to rod applications are designated "R" - Rod (Female), backup rings specific to piston applications are designated "P" - Piston (Male). Piston and rod types of virgin pigmented PTFE are also identified by color code which also distinguishes parts to this standard from those made from virgin PTFE to other standards.Backup rings specified herein have been designed for a temperature range of -65 to 275 °F (-54 to 135 °C) and a nominal operating pressure of 3000 psi (20.7 MPa) for code 09 material (AMS 3678/9). Alternate materials to AMS 3678 are offered for more arduous operating conditions. This specification includes material tests but does not include hydraulic or pneumatic performance tests. AS5782 has been reaffirmed to comply with the SAE five-year review policy.

Material codes are based on AMS 3678 material types.Consideration has been made to accommodate cylinder breathing on piston applications, calculated at .002 inch/inch diameter/1,000 psi (.051 mm/mm diameter/6.9 MPa) to ensure a minimum 50% lap at -65 °F (-54 °C). This has required an increase in the diameter on certain larger sizes and a slight overlap at ambient will therefore be apparent. These parts have been designed such that the overlap at 275 °F (135 °C) will not result in axial compression of the O-rings, even in the worst tolerance stack-up situation. This standard is required so that retainers (back-up) rings will be available for use with static glands per AS5857.
