This book was released on 1952 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the summary, suggestions are made relative to the inclusive of the theory discussed in this paper in the day-to-day analysis of the weather. Indications are also given for the extension of the hydraulic analogy beyond the point covered in this paper.
Download or read book Application of the Hydraulic Analogy to Internal Subsonic Flow written by Carl Hugh Warren and published by . This book was released on 1967 with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An experimental study was made to determine the quantitative accuracy of the hydraulic analogy when applied to subsonic internal flows such as exist in pure fluid elements. The analogy is based upon the correspondence between density and depth (or pressure and depth squared) when the Mach number and Froude number are equal. Experiments were run in air and in water on geometrically similar nonsymmetrical flow dividers. A factor was used to correct for the difference in apparent specific heat ratios k. (Apparent k = 2 for hydraulic flow, k = 1.4 for air flow.) After this correction was made, the data correlated to within three percent. The Reynolds number for the water flow varied from about 1,500 to 4,000 and, for the air flow, from 17,000 to 100,000. The good correlation, even though some of the water data was taken in apparently laminar flow, indicated that inertial effects predominated over viscous effects. This was because the fluid was essentially at rest before it entered the flow divider. The geometry was characterized by sharp angles and relatively short flow lengths so that convective acceleration and separation zones dominated the flow and established patterns of velocity distribution did not have a chance to completely develop. This book was released on 1948 with total page 666 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In order to establish a meteorological forecasting system, it is necessary to find a direct relationship between measurable physical states of the atmosphere and the end product, the weather element to be forecast. The long range forecaster is quite limited in his choice of physical parameters. In fact only the very large-scale dynamics of the atmosphere which can be expressed in terms of mean pressure patterns are amenable to long range analysis. Thus the problem reduces to finding a link between mean planetary pressure patterns and precipitation in the Hawaiian Islands

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the publication of its first edition in 1999, 'The Hydraulics of Open Channel Flow' has been praised by professionals, academics, students and researchers alike as the most practical modern textbook on open channel flow available. This new edition includes substantial new material on hydraulic modelling, in particular addressing unsteady open channel flows. There are also many new exercises and projects, including a major new revision assignment. This innovative textbook contains numerous examples and practical applications, and is fully illustrated with photographs. Dr Chanson introduces the basic principles of open channel flow and takes readers through the key topics of sediment transport, hydraulic modelling and the design of hydraulic structures. - Comprehensive coverage of the basic principles of key application areas of the hydraulics of open channel flow - New exercises and examples added to aid understanding - Ideal for use by students and lecturers in civil and environmental engineering
Download or read book Flow Visualization written by Wolfgang Merzkirch and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 261 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Flow Visualization describes the most widely used methods for visualizing flows. Flow visualization evaluates certain properties of a flow field directly accessible to visual perception. Organized into five chapters, this book first presents the methods that create a visible flow pattern that could be investigated by visual inspection, such as simple dye and density-sensitive visualization methods. It then deals with the application of electron beams and streaming birefringence. Optical methods for compressible flows, hydraulic analogy, and high-speed photography are discussed in other chapters. With appropriate flow pictures, this book tries to distinguish the various methods and the range of their applicability by outlining the physical principles on which each method is based.
