Download or read book Transeurasian Verbal Morphology in a Comparative Perspective written by Lars Johanson and published by Otto Harrassowitz Verlag. This book was released on 2010 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The term Transeurasian refers to a large group of geographically adjacent languages stretching from the Pacific in the East to the Mediterranean in the West. They share a significant amount of linguistic properties and include five linguistic families: Japanese, Korean, Tungusic, Mongolic and Turkic. There is disagreement among scholars on the question whether these languages are genealogically related in the sense of an "Altaic" family. Many linguists, however, seem to agree on at least one point, namely that investigations into the striking correspondences in the domain of verbal morphology could substantially help unravelling the question. The present volume brings together prominent specialists in the field who explore potentially shared features of verbal morphology among the Transeurasian languages and search for the best way to explain them. Important issues dealt with include the following: How useful is verbal morphology really in establishing genealogical relations among languages? Is there concrete evidence for cognate verbal morphology across the Transeurasian languages? Is it possible to draw wider connections with Indo-European and Uralic? How to distinguish between genealogical retention and copying of verbal morphology? In which ways can typological similarities be significant in this context?
Download or read book Burning for the Buddha written by James A. Benn and published by University of Hawaii Press. This book was released on 2007-02-28 with total page 378 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Burning for the Buddha is the first book-length study of the theory and practice of "abandoning the body"(self-immolation) in Chinese Buddhism. It examines the hagiographical accounts of all those who made offerings of their own bodies and places them in historical, social, cultural, and doctrinal context. Rather than privilege the doctrinal and exegetical interpretations of the tradition, which assume the central importance of the mind and its cultivation, James Benn focuses on the ways in which the heroic ideals of the bodhisattva present in scriptural materials such as the Lotus Sutra played out in the realm of religious practice on the ground.

Book excerpt: “We will have a tiger boy soon. Just like you.” Tasha said with a bright smile.. “No, we will have tigress girl. I like a girl like you and I will make her as the tigress like you.” Peter said with a smile. Meanwhile, he noticed that one real tigress daily comes to their place where they live and love. The real tigress sits outside the window of the room and observes peter and Tasha love with fire like desire. By that time, Peter learnt the language of tigers. He saw that the real tigress is quite different, half human like and if we think that the tail is missing, she looks like a beautiful body. All womanly features are in her. Round and stiff under forelegs and just like a woman behind rear legs. While Peter was seeing her, she looked happy and moved around to let him see her beauty. Peter saw and controlled his feelings. But this young tigress became his show piece to see frequently.

Book excerpt: Buddhism or Buddhisms? By the time they move on to Buddhism in Japan, many students who have studied its origins in India ask whether this is in fact the same religion, so different can they appear. In Buddhisms: An Introduction, Professor John S. Strong provides an overview of the Buddhist tradition in all its different forms around the world. Beginning at the modern day temples of Lumbini, where the Buddha was born, Strong takes us through the life of the Buddha and a study of Buddhist Doctrine, revealing how Buddhism has changed just as it has stayed the same. Finally, Strong examines the nature of Buddhist community life and its development today in the very different environments of Thailand, Japan, and Tibet. Enriched by the author’s own insights gathered over forty years, Buddhisms never loses sight of the personal experience amidst the wide-scope of its subject. Clear in its explanations, replete with tables and suggestions for further reading, this is an essential new work that makes original contributions to the study of this 2,500 year-old religion.

Download or read book The Greening of Religion written by Jonathan Leader Editor and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2018-02-27 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Some have said the America is the most religious industrialized country in the world.6 The power of politics driven at least in part by religious concerns was demonstrated dramatically in the November election. But are people at this grassroots level- the ones most likely to suffer the consequences of political deafness regarding climate change- do they really understand the truth of the approaching environmental storm? If not, perhaps they will best learn new ways of thinking (and living) from those whom they hold in highest regard, their religious leaders, thinkers, teachers, writers and communicators. With "The Greening of Religion" we hope to have added to a life-saving public conversation, perhaps even started some conversations. And we hope those conversations will lead to actions which can shelter us from the inevitable, and perhaps turn us from calamity, even here at the last minute.

Elephant tusks, animal skins, their skeletons and teeth are being smuggled through human network across the globe. Killings of animals are on the rise. These innocent animals who are voiceless suffer immensely by these inhumane and barbarian acts to fulfill mankinds food or monitory gains. These animals have the same emotions, feelings, and sentiments as human beings have. They love their family, and they mourn in their loss of their near or dear ones as we do. The irony is these animals cant go to the courts to seek justice. These stories remind us that we cant escape from our wrong doings toward Mother Nature as we cant escape from the court of the Almighty.
