It is also designed to provide a proper analysis of human-workplace systems. Its focus is on the surrounding workplace environmental and human factors which mainly affected the quality of workplace design and interaction with human beings. The book’s emphasis is placed on designing the tasks, environments, and workplaces with which humans work according to the suitable environmental and human factors to avoid mismatching between the workplace-task-environment and humans. In this book, the common thread is on howbetter human and environmental factors can lead to improved comfort, psychological acceptance, safety, pleasure, andefficiency in all components of workfields (workplace, task, and environment). The author expects this book to be of use to individuals who work in engineering or medical fields. The book is designed with the aim of engineers and designers can design the workplace to be suitable for humans and medical health practitioners to provide advice to the workers inside the workplaces to adjust their body mechanics and protect them against workplace hazards. The author hopesthatengineers, designers, and medical health practitioners will preserve the book and apply it in their careers.

Book U S Health in International Perspective

Download or read book U S Health in International Perspective written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2013-04-12 with total page 421 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The United States is among the wealthiest nations in the world, but it is far from the healthiest. Although life expectancy and survival rates in the United States have improved dramatically over the past century, Americans live shorter lives and experience more injuries and illnesses than people in other high-income countries. The U.S. health disadvantage cannot be attributed solely to the adverse health status of racial or ethnic minorities or poor people: even highly advantaged Americans are in worse health than their counterparts in other, "peer" countries. In light of the new and growing evidence about the U.S. health disadvantage, the National Institutes of Health asked the National Research Council (NRC) and the Institute of Medicine (IOM) to convene a panel of experts to study the issue. The Panel on Understanding Cross-National Health Differences Among High-Income Countries examined whether the U.S. health disadvantage exists across the life span, considered potential explanations, and assessed the larger implications of the findings. U.S. Health in International Perspective presents detailed evidence on the issue, explores the possible explanations for the shorter and less healthy lives of Americans than those of people in comparable countries, and recommends actions by both government and nongovernment agencies and organizations to address the U.S. health disadvantage.

Book Production Ergonomics

Download or read book Production Ergonomics written by Cecilia Berlin and published by Ubiquity Press. This book was released on 2017-06-28 with total page 297 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Production ergonomics – the science and practice of designing industrial workplaces to optimize human well-being and system performance – is a complex challenge for a designer. Humans are a valuable and flexible resource in any system of creation, and as long as they stay healthy, alert and motivated, they perform well and also become more competent over time, which increases their value as a resource. However, if a system designer is not mindful or aware of the many threats to health and system performance that may emerge, the end result may include inefficiency, productivity losses, low working morale, injuries and sick-leave. To help budding system designers and production engineers tackle these design challenges holistically, this book offers a multi-faceted orientation in the prerequisites for healthy and effective human work. We will cover physical, cognitive and organizational aspects of ergonomics, and provide both the individual human perspective and that of groups and populations, ending up with a look at global challenges that require workplaces to become more socially and economically sustainable. This book is written to give you a warm welcome to the subject, and to provide a solid foundation for improving industrial workplaces to attract and retain healthy and productive staff in the long run.

Download or read book Ergonomics written by K. Murrell and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 520 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Until quite recently conditions in industry were often rough. Long hours were worked in insanitary and murky workshops, often with little regard to the effects upon the workpeople who were considered to be expendable. Now, however, these adverse conditions have been recognized and so remedied that there remains little in industrial conditions to disturb the public conscience. This does not mean that conditions of work in office or factory are perfect. The obvious and dramatic abuses of the human frame may have gone, but in their place have arisen stresses and strains which, taking effect only in the long term, are generally undramatic and often unrecognized. They exist none the less. No organized effort to study the effect of working conditions on man's performance was made until the end of World War I, when the Industrial Fatigue Research Board was set up. For the first time, men trained in the human sciences entered industry to study men at work. They made con tributions which set a new standard of scientific investigation into human performance and allowed executive action on the basis of evidence rather than of hunch. The Board's work differed from the contribution of Gilbreth in America in that the principles of Motion Study which he developed were, to a large extent, based on intelligent observation rather than controlled experiment. During the 1920S the National Institute of Industrial Psychology was founded and there was close collaboration between it and the I.F.R.B.

Book The Relationships Among Sustainable Work Environment Human Agency Openness to Change and Innovative Work Behavior

Download or read book The Relationships Among Sustainable Work Environment Human Agency Openness to Change and Innovative Work Behavior written by Jennifer Jihae Park and published by . This book was released on 2022 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this study was to examine the relationships among sustainable work environment, human agency, openness to change, and innovative work behavior. Based on Bandura's human agency theory, the study aimed to explore the influence of individual experiences (i.e., personal agency), the actions of others (i.e., proxy agency), and environmental factors on individual behaviors (i.e., collective agency). This study responds to previous literature that called for more research to integrate the three aspects in a single study and to quantitatively examine the human agency construct in the field of human resource development, management, and instructional technology. The quantitative data were collected using a 45-item online survey to measure the four main constructs of the study. The participants were full-time, exempt employees working at five select large conglomerates in Korea. The select five large conglomerates implemented strategic HR initiatives to flatten the hierarchical organizational culture and promote members' active communication, openness, innovation, and creativity. The sample of the study was purposefully and conveniently selected, and participants were recruited from personal connections utilizing the snowballing method. After rounds of data cleaning procedures, the sample size used for this study was 271.Descriptive and inferential statistics such as confirmatory factor analysis, structural regression analysis, correlations were used to examine the research hypotheses. All hypotheses, including the mediation effects of human agency on sustainable work environment towards openness to change and innovative work behavior, were statistically significant, supporting the proposed model. The study results supported Bandura's human agency theory and previous literature that discuss the importance of supportive work environments, agentic behavior, openness to change and innovative work behavior. The theoretical and practical implications along with study limitations and recommendation for future research were discussed in Chapter 5.
