Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hugo & Russell’s Pharmaceutical Microbiology Discover the very latest developments in pharmaceutical microbiology in the 9th edition of this popular textbook Microbiology is one of the essential pharmaceutical sciences upon which the study and practice of pharmacy is built. It has a bearing on all aspects of the manufacture of medicines and sterile products, from their design and development to their delivery as quality products. Few interventions are more central to modern medicine than the treatment of infection, where antibiosis, vaccination and hygienic practices have essential roles to play. The COVID-19 pandemic, the appearance of new pathogens and the rise of antibiotic resistance have demonstrated most completely the need for pharmaceutical practitioners, researchers and industrial scientists to be fully conversant with this field. The 9th edition of Hugo and Russell’s Pharmaceutical Microbiology has been updated to meet this need. Having long served as the sole comprehensive textbook covering this subject, it has now been adapted to a critical new period in the advancement of medical and pharmaceutical research and development. Its experienced editors have incorporated contributions from subject experts and created a text which will serve the next generation of pharmacy students, pharmaceutical industry scientists and researchers. In this ninth edition of Hugo and Russell’s Pharmaceutical Microbiology, readers will find: A mix of established and new authors bringing practical and research experience to their chapters Material covering the fundamentals of microbiology, microbial behavior and laboratory investigation Revised chapters incorporating new material on microbe-host interactions, antibiotic resistance, emerging pathogens, public health microbiology, healthcare-associated infection and pharmaceutical manufacture Emerging understandings from the COVID-19 pandemic on infection prevention and control and vaccine development Practitioners providing their insights on clinical practice and pharmaceutical production An accompanying website incorporating teaching resources Hugo and Russell’s Pharmaceutical Microbiology, 9th edition promises to remain the essential text for pharmacy and medical students, as well as researchers and industry professionals.

Book HIV AIDS and Work in a Globalizing World 2005

Download or read book HIV AIDS and Work in a Globalizing World 2005 written by International Labour Office and published by ILO. This book was released on 2006 with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report highlights the intrinsic links between poverty, HIV/AIDS, movement for work and globalisation. The negative impact of the epidemic on health and the quality of the labour force, which deters foreign direct investment, is underscored and assessed. The report provides estimates of populations at risk of HIV/AIDS because of the impact of poverty in 34 countries in Sub-Saharan Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean, and in the more developed regions. It discusses the links between HIV/AIDS and the movement of persons in search of work, in the course of their work, and in the travel and leisure industries; and outlines the changes needed to address and manage the HIV/AIDS epidemic at enterprise, national and global levels.

Book Kinase Drug Discovery

    Book Details:
  • Author : Richard A. Ward
  • Publisher : Royal Society of Chemistry
  • Release : 2012
  • ISBN : 1849731748
  • Pages : 333 pages

Download or read book Kinase Drug Discovery written by Richard A. Ward and published by Royal Society of Chemistry. This book was released on 2012 with total page 333 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Kinase drug discovery remains an area of significant interest across academia and in the pharmaceutical industry. There are now around 13 FDA approved small molecule drugs which target kinases and many more compounds in various stages of clinical development. Although there have been a number of reviews/publications on kinase research, this book fills a gap in the literature by considering the current and future opportunities and challenges in targeting this important family of enzymes. The book is forward-looking and identifies a number of hot topics and key areas for kinase drug discovery over the coming years. It includes contributions from highly respected authors with a combined experience in the industry of well over 200 years, which has resulted in a book of great interest to the kinase field and across drug discovery more generally. Readers will gain a real insight into the huge challenges and opportunities which this target class has presented drug discovery scientists. The many chapters cover a wide breadth of topics, are well written and include high quality colour and black and white images. Topics covered include an outline of how medicinal chemistry has been able to specifically exploit this unique target class, along with reflections on the mechanisms of kinases inhibitors. Also covered is resistance to kinase inhibitors caused by amino acid mutations, case studies of kinase programs and reviews areas beyond protein kinases and beyond the human kinome. Also described are modern approaches to finding kinase leads and the book finishes with a reflection of how kinase drug discovery may progress over the coming years.

Book Industrialization in Sub Saharan Africa

Download or read book Industrialization in Sub Saharan Africa written by Kaleb G. Abreha and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 2021-12-18 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Industrialization drives the sustained growth in jobs and productivity that marks the developmental take-off of most developed economies. Yet, academics and policy makers have questioned the role of manufacturing in development for late industrializers, especially ith more job creation. Industrialization drives the sustained growth in jobs and productivity that marks the developmental take-off of most developed economies. Yet, academics and policy makers have questioned the role of manufacturing in development for late industrializers, especially in view of rapid advancements in technologies and restructuring of international trade.Concurrently, industrialization and structural transformation are integral to the African Union’s Agenda 2063 and the development strategies of several countries in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA). Given this renewed interest in industrialization across the region, a central question is not whether SSA countries should pursue industrialization as a potential path to sustainable growth but how to promote the prospects of industrialization. Industrialization in Sub-Saharan Africa: Seizing Opportunities in Global Value Chains addresses this question by reassessing the prospects for industrialization in SSA countries through integration into global value chains. It also examines the role of policy in enhancing these prospects. The main findings indicate that • SSA has not experienced premature deindustrialization; the region has witnessed substantial growth in manufacturing jobs despite a lack of improvement in the contribution of manufacturing value-added to GDP. • The region’s integration into manufacturing global value chains is reasonably high but it is dominated by exports of primary products and engagement in low-skill tasks. • Global value chain integration has led to job growth, and backward integration is associated with more job creation. The report emphasizes the role of policy in maintaining a competitive market environment, promoting productivity growth, and investing in skills development and enabling sectors such as infrastructure and finance. Policy makers can strengthen the global value chain linkages by (1) increasing the value-added content of current exports, (2) upgrading into high-skill tasks, and (3) creating comparative advantages in knowledge-intensive industries.
