Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The latest research regarding the neurodegenerative conditions known as neuroacanthocytosis will be found in this book. Recent advances have identified the range of mutations in the causative genes. In vitro studies have identified potential protein interactions, and work on erythrocyte membranes suggests mechanisms for the generation of acanthocytes. Animal models are being generated and provide the foundation for possible therapeutic interventions.

Download or read book Peace Faith Nation written by Theron F. Schlabach and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2007-02-02 with total page 417 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'Peace, Faith, Nation' tells the story of Mennonite and Amish life in nineteenth-century America -- stories of families, of churches, of communities. It tells of work and play, of moving and settling, of struggling with citizenship, of various means (including the Old Order ways) of church renewal. It is a Mennonite history but also an American history. At its heart it tells of response to the nationalist, individualistic, aggressive, and progressive spirit of America. Most Mennonites were quiet, peace-oriented, communal, and humility-minded. Yet the American spirit beckoned -- especially as it often came through Protestant revivalism and promised religious renewal.

Book Problems of Modern Quantum Field Theory

Download or read book Problems of Modern Quantum Field Theory written by Aleksandr A. Belavin and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 171 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the invited lectures of a school on modern quantum field theory held at Alushta, USSR, in May 1989. The development of this subject, including string theories attempting to model elementary particles, is closely interwoven with modern mathematical physics. The lectures presented by experts in the field provide an overview of the research pursued in different branches of this rapidly evolving field and draw attention to particular interconnections and problems. Topics covered include: geometrical quantization and finite size effects in conformal field theory; quasi-Hopf, Kac-Moody current and Lie super-algebras; quantum groups; Wess-Zumino-Witten models; Nizhnik-Zamolodchikov equations; non-archimedian strings; string dynamics; KdV and KP (super) equations and calculations on (super-) riemannian surfaces; 2d Ising model and 2d electron motion on surfaces in external magnetic fields.

  • Author : Yechiel Becker
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2013-06-29
  • ISBN : 9401568979
  • Pages : 472 pages

Download or read book Herpesvirus DNA written by Yechiel Becker and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 472 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Herpesviruses, classified in the family Herpesviridae, are important human and animal pathogens that can cause primary, latent or recurrent infections and even cancer. The major interest in research on herpesviruses today focuses on understanding the organization of the DNA genome, as well as on characterizing the viral genes in regard to their control and function. Modern techniques have allowed the viral DNA to become a molecular tool in the study of gene function, since it is now possible to implant the DNA into eukaryotic cells. This book contains original studies on the structure and organization of the DNA of human and animal herpes viruses. The various chapters acquaint the reader with the organization of the viral DNA, the mRNA transcripts, the replicative intermediates of the viral DNA, defective DNA genomes and their mode of synthesis, analyses of the viral DNA sequences in transformed cells, and the relationship between the presence of viral DNA fragments in the cancer cells and the transformed state of the cells.

Book Pathways to Complexity

Download or read book Pathways to Complexity written by M. Kathryn Brown and published by University Press of Florida. This book was released on 2021-04-27 with total page 451 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pathways to Complexity synthesizes a wealth of new archaeological data to illuminate the origins of Maya civilization and the rise of Classic Maya culture. In this volume, prominent Maya scholars argue that the development of social, religious, and economic complexity began during the Middle Preclassic period (1000–300 B.C.), hundreds of years earlier than previously thought. Contributors reveal that villages were present in parts of the lowlands by 1000 B.C., challenging the prevailing models estimating when civilization took root in the area. Combining recent discoveries from the northern lowlands—an area often neglected in other volumes—and the southern lowlands, the collection then traces the emergence of sociopolitical inequality and complexity in all parts of the Yucatan peninsula over the course of the Middle Preclassic period. They show that communities evolved in different ways due to influences such as geographical location, ceramic exchange, shell ornament production, agricultural strategy, religious ritual, ideology, and social rankings. These varied pathways to complexity developed over half a millennium and culminated in the institution of kingship by the Late Preclassic period. Presenting exciting work on a dynamic and poorly understood time period, Pathways to Complexity demonstrates the importance of a broad, comparative approach to understanding Preclassic Maya civilization and will serve as a foundation for future research and interpretation.
