This powerful prayer on the surface seems like a standard prayer, nothing particularly remarkable is contained within the verses. To most, it is just another prayer, but to those who look, they will find within the text the 42 letter name of God. Book excerpt: Drawing wisdom from the Zohar, this short kabbalistic text redefines this legendary period of time as a window for individuals and communities to reach "messiah consciousness." That means it's up to people, not some celestial savior, to ignite global change. All the natural disasters poverty, revolutions, anarchy, are wake-up calls to a fragmented humanity. The end is near, but as Yehuda explains this really means "the end of dominance of the human ego. In its place we will experience the unleashing of our true selves - the illuminated human soul." There must be a critical mass, a certain threshold of transformation to capitalize on this window, and when that occurs, the peoples of the world will function as one body while still appreciating our differences. Our collective minds have the power to bring an end to negative consciousness and birth a new existence right now.

Download or read book What Is Scripture written by L. Timothy Swinson and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2014-10-15 with total page 217 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Analysis of the literary scheme of the letters to Timothy suggests that graphe, as it is employed in each letter, may legitimately be understood to include some of the apostolic writings that now appear in the New Testament. In affirming the Pauline authorship of the Pastoral Epistles, Swinson argues that a form of the Gospel of Luke stands as the source of the second referent of graphe in 1 Tim 5:18. Second, Swinson contends that pasa graphe in 2 Tim 3:16 includes the apostolic writings extant in Paul's day, specifically Luke's Gospel and some of Paul's own writings. These parallel lines of analysis demonstrate that Paul ascribes to his own writings and to those of his coworkers an authoritative standing equal to that of the sacred writings (ta hiera grammata) found in the Old Testament. While many questions surrounding biblical authority and the biblical canon remain, Paul's use of graphe in 1 and 2 Timothy nevertheless advances a high view of both Old Testament and New Testament Scripture.

Download or read book The Letter of Jude written by Guy Manuell and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2017-05-15 with total page 133 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This commentary on The Letter of Jude engages the Greek text and is designed for pastors, theological students, and lay readers. Jude, a brother of Jesus, warns members of the early Jesus movement against intruders in their midst and exhorts those believers not to deviate from the fundamental tenets of the faith in behavior and belief. It also provides a unique analysis that links Jude with 1 Corinthians in terms of their authors literary style, Jewish backgrounds, and closely correlated descriptions of the errorists described in both letters. The Letter of Jude is highly relevant to Christians in the twenty-first century. Even many of those now calling themselves evangelical have abandoned any pretence to adhering to biblical doctrines. This commentary seeks to emphasise Jude message: contend for biblical truth, and live so that the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ is alive, true, and liberating.

Book Theology and Practice in Early Christianity

Download or read book Theology and Practice in Early Christianity written by Troy W. Martin and published by Mohr Siebeck. This book was released on 2020-08-12 with total page 553 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Early Christianity did not originate in a vacuum but in a world of linguistic, social, religious, and cultural richness and diversity. The twenty-two seminal essays in this volume - some previously published, some newly written - represent almost three decades of research by Troy W. Martin to understand how early Christianity developed in the ancient world. The broad-ranging investigations in these essays give attention not only to the linguistic and rhetorical features of early Christian texts, but also to the social, philosophical, physiological, and medical contexts in which these texts were written. The essays provide new understandings of early Christian conceptions of salvation and of the virtues of faith, hope and love that characterized early Christian communities. They include new medical and physiological explanations of early Christian sacraments, pneumatology, and eschatology and furthermore investigate early Christian communal life and practice, including the veiling of women, male/female relationships, and time-keeping. The essays include reception histories that describe their influence on subsequent research and place them within the context of contemporary research and scholarship. Those familiar with the well-trodden ground of New Testament studies will find in these essays new insights and previously unexplored comparative material for understanding early Christianity and the world in which it originated.

Book Dissolving Royal Marriages

  • Pages : 325 pages

Download or read book Dissolving Royal Marriages written by D. L. d'Avray and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2014-07-24 with total page 325 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dissolving Royal Marriages adopts a unique chronological and geographical perspective to present a comparative overview of royal divorce cases from the Middle Ages through to the Reformation period. Drawing from original translations of key source documents, the book sheds new light on some of the most prominent and elite divorce proceedings in Western history, including Henry VIII's divorce from Catherine of Aragon. The comprehensive commentary that accompanies these materials allows readers to grasp, for the first time, how the constructs of canon law helped shape the legal arguments on which specific cases were founded, and better understand the events that actually unfolded in the courtrooms. In his case-by-case exploration of elaborate witness statements, extensive legal negotiations and political wrangling, d'Avray shows us how little the canonical law for the dissolution of marriage changed over time in this fascinating new study of Church-state relations and papal power over princes.
