This book was released on 2019-04-02 with total page 118 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The German Shorthaired Pointer is a medium to large sized breed of hunting dog that was developed during the 19th century in Germany. The breed is also commonly known as the 'Deutscher Kurzhaariger, ' the 'Vorstehhund, ' and the 'Kurzhaar.' The German Shorthaired Pointer is a descendant of the German Bird Dog and the Old Spanish Pointer. It is also believed that the breed has traces of hound and tracking dogs: such as the English Pointer and the Arkwright Pointer. The German Shorthaired Pointer was developed to be a versatile hunting breed and gun dog that is capable of hunting both on land and in the water. The breed has a streamlined build with powerful muscular legs that allow it to capable of running, swimming and changing direction rapidly. The German Shorthaired Pointer's powerful build also makes it capable of retrieving relatively heavy game. The German Shorthaired Pointer has a short, flat and dense undercoat which is protected by stiff guard hairs that make the breed's coat resistant to water, the cold and most other weathers. The breed's coat normally comes in the following colorations: dark brown, liver (colloquially called 'chocolate' or 'chestnut'), black, black roan, white, live roan, liver and white or black and white. The German Shorthaired Pointer normally has a solidly colored head and a speckled or 'ticked' body. It is also not uncommon for the German Shorthaired Pointer to have large patches of color known as 'saddles.' The temperament of dogs is normally affected by the following factors: individual personality, heredity, training and socialization. It is therefore important to make sure that you meet the puppy's mother before purchasing a German Shorthaired Pointer. It is also important to make sure to thoroughly socialize your German Shorthaired Pointer with strangers, children and other animals during its puppyhood. Generally speaking, the German Shorthaired Pointer is a highly intelligent, bold affectionate, enthusiastic and willing to please breed. The German Shorthaired Pointer loves interacting with humans and spending time with their family units. It is important to note that as a sporting breed, the German Shorthaired Pointer has a high amount of energy which needs to be expended. If the German Shorthaired Pointer has a buildup of energy it is likely to develop destructive behaviors due to boredom or hyperactivity. Before purchasing any pet it is important to understand that as a pet owner you are responsible for the care and wellbeing of your pet. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Learn to communicate with your dog—using their language “Good reading for dog lovers and an immensely useful manual for dog owners.”—The Washington Post An Applied Animal Behaviorist and dog trainer with more than twenty years’ experience, Dr. Patricia McConnell reveals a revolutionary new perspective on our relationship with dogs—sharing insights on how “man’s best friend” might interpret our behavior, as well as essential advice on how to interact with our four-legged friends in ways that bring out the best in them. After all, humans and dogs are two entirely different species, each shaped by its individual evolutionary heritage. Quite simply, humans are primates and dogs are canids (as are wolves, coyotes, and foxes). Since we each speak a different native tongue, a lot gets lost in the translation. This marvelous guide demonstrates how even the slightest changes in our voices and in the ways we stand can help dogs understand what we want. Inside you will discover: • How you can get your dog to come when called by acting less like a primate and more like a dog • Why the advice to “get dominance” over your dog can cause problems • Why “rough and tumble primate play” can lead to trouble—and how to play with your dog in ways that are fun and keep him out of mischief • How dogs and humans share personality types—and why most dogs want to live with benevolent leaders rather than “alpha wanna-bes!” Fascinating, insightful, and compelling, The Other End of the Leash is a book that strives to help you connect with your dog in a completely new way—so as to enrich that most rewarding of relationships.

Book excerpt: A golden retriever narrates a hilarious, heart-tugging tale of a dog and his humans as he tries to keep his family together while everything around them falls apart. Ever since Cosmo became a big brother to Max ten years ago, he’s known what his job was: to protect his boy and make him happy. Through many good years marked by tennis balls and pilfered turkey, torn-up toilet paper and fragrant goose poop, Cosmo has doggedly kept his vow. Until recently, his biggest problems were the evil tutu-wearing sheepdog he met on Halloween and the arthritis in his own joints. But now, with Dad-scented blankets appearing on the couch and arguing voices getting louder, Cosmo senses a tougher challenge ahead. When Max gets a crazy idea to teach them both a dance routine for a contest, how can Cosmo refuse, stiff hips or no? Max wants to remind his folks of all the great times they’ve had together dancing — and make them forget about the “d” word that’s making them all cry. Told in the open, optimistic, unintentionally humorous voice of a golden retriever, I, Cosmo will grab readers from the first page — and remind them that love and loyalty transcend whatever life throws your way.

Book excerpt: NATIONAL BESTSELLER • From the Pulitzer Prize-winning and best-selling author: a captivating, brilliantly imaginative story of three extraordinary animals—and a young boy—whose lives intersect in Paris in this "feel-good escape” (The New York Times). Paras, short for "Perestroika," is a spirited racehorse at a racetrack west of Paris. One afternoon at dusk, she finds the door of her stall open and—she's a curious filly—wanders all the way to the City of Light. She's dazzled and often mystified by the sights, sounds, and smells around her, but she isn't afraid. Soon she meets an elegant dog, a German shorthaired pointer named Frida, who knows how to get by without attracting the attention of suspicious Parisians. Paras and Frida coexist for a time in the city's lush green spaces, nourished by Frida's strategic trips to the vegetable market. They keep company with two irrepressible ducks and an opinionated raven. But then Paras meets a human boy, Etienne, and discovers a new, otherworldly part of Paris: the ivy-walled house where the boy and his nearly-one-hundred-year-old great-grandmother live in seclusion. As the cold weather nears, the unlikeliest of friendships bloom. But how long can a runaway horse stay undiscovered in Paris? How long can a boy keep her hidden and all to himself? Jane Smiley's beguiling new novel is itself an adventure that celebrates curiosity, ingenuity, and the desire of all creatures for true love and freedom.
