Book excerpt: Excerpt from How to SingIt will be observed that I use the word he all the way through when meaning he or she. This is merely because I understand there is no English word which expresses the both. It would have been more modern to have used she in every case, but perhaps less modest. My lady readers will, however, understand that I am writ ing at least as much, if not more, for their benefit than for our lords and masters.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book excerpt: Excerpt from How to Sing: Meine Gesangskunst The Object Of the first edition is attained. The book has opened the eyes Of many to the nature of the art of song. All those who have anything to say or' write must expect to meet misinterpretations: there are just as many ideas and modes Of expressing the same thing as there are listeners and readers. I have endeavored, in this second edition, to forestall 'misinterpretations and to express better what I had to say in the first. It must not be thought that I lay claim to anything new: But I do lay claim to having translated that which has Often been said and likewise misunderstood, into the language Of the singer who can only guide himself by tone sensations and learn therefrom. Book Style in Singing Classic Reprint

Download or read book Style in Singing Classic Reprint written by W. E. Haslam and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-09-10 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Style in Singing This last tone was delivered with the full force and brilliance of her magnificent voice, and was prolonged until the thrill produced in the listener became almost painful in its intensity. Again I ask, why did this world-famous singer perform this passage always in the same way? Unrefiecting people may reply vaguely that it was because the artist sang with expression. But what constitutes expression in singing? No great artist - no matter what the vehicle or medium through which his art finds manifestation - does anything at random. The wind bloweth where it listeth only in appearance; in reality, it is governed by immutable law. Similarly, the outward form of an art is only apparently dictated by caprice and freedom from rule. The effective presentation of every art is based on well defined and accepted principles. And it is with the earnest desire to throw light on this most important phase of vocal art, that I present the principles of Style in Singmg. Book Ten Singing Lessons Classic Reprint

Download or read book Ten Singing Lessons Classic Reprint written by Mathilde Marchesi and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-21 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ten Singing Lessons by Mathilde Marchesi is a gold mine of a book for any person trying to improve their singing voice or encourage others to do so, particularly those of the soprano range, as the author was. Even for the likes of the multitude of what we shall call 'vocally un-gifted' people, within which group this individual counts themself, Ms Marchesi's Ten Singing Lessons makes for a fascinating read. Born in Germany in the early 19th century Mathilde Marchesi's early life was spent in the pursuit of a singing career. Her voice proving only "adequate" this career, although achieved, was short lived and Mathilde moved on to become a tutor at the age of 28. In this endeavour she met far more success, so much so that in 1881, at the age of 60, she was able to open her own school on the vocal arts. Achieving fame largely for the training of such successful singers as Nellie Melba and Selma Kurz, Mathilde Marchesi was a much renowned and sought after singing tutor until she passed on in 1913. The contents of this book being fairly obvious, all we need say is that Mathidle Marchesi's advice is as valuable today as it was on its original publication.
