There are 190 million of them in the U.S. alone. They have $4.4 trillion in collective buying power. They purchase 85% of all products and services, and they influence most of the rest of the purchases. They are responsible for 85% of the checks written. Forty-seven percent of them are stockholders. Who are they? Women.

In Make a Fortune Selling to Women, Connie Podesta combines psychology and sales tactics to create a how-to guide for how to sell to women and how to market to women.

With a lively voice and no-nonsense tone that both men and women will appreciate, Podesta offers specific tips for overcoming the big five Deal Breakers:

  1. She doesn't want to play the game
  2. She doesn't think the salesperson views her as a legitimate decision maker
  3. She doesn't like the salesperson
  4. She doesn't trust the salesperson
  5. She doesn't think the salesperson is the right person for the job

Riddled with revealing anecdotes, Make a Fortune Selling to Women describes the male and female approach to the buying experience--without being condescending to either gender. And both salesmen and saleswomen will rely on this book to help them secure more sales with women. Discover exactly the right approach when selling to women and use it to close the deal.

Book Essential Trade

    Book Details:
  • Author : Ann Marie Leshkowich
  • Publisher : University of Hawaii Press
  • Release : 2014-09-30
  • ISBN : 0824847865
  • Pages : 274 pages

Download or read book Essential Trade written by Ann Marie Leshkowich and published by University of Hawaii Press. This book was released on 2014-09-30 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “My husband doesn’t have a head for business,” complained Ngoc, the owner of a children’s clothing stall in Ben Thanh market. “Naturally, it’s because he’s a man.” When the women who sell in Ho Chi Minh City’s iconic marketplace speak, their language suggests that activity in the market is shaped by timeless, essential truths: Vietnamese women are naturally adept at buying and selling, while men are not; Vietnamese prefer to do business with family members or through social contacts; stallholders are by nature superstitious; marketplace trading is by definition a small-scale enterprise. Essential Trade looks through the façade of these “timeless truths” and finds active participants in a political economy of appearances: traders’ words and actions conform to stereotypes of themselves as poor, weak women in order to clinch sales, manage creditors, and protect themselves from accusations of being greedy, corrupt, or “bourgeois” – even as they quietly slip into southern Vietnam’s growing middle class. But Leshkowich argues that we should not dismiss the traders’ self-disparaging words simply because of their essentialist logic. In Ben Thanh market, performing certain styles of femininity, kinship relations, social networks, spirituality, and class allowed traders to portray themselves as particular kinds of people who had the capacity to act in volatile political and economic circumstances. When so much seems to be changing, a claim that certain things or people are inherently or naturally a particular way can be both personally meaningful and strategically advantageous. Based on ethnographic fieldwork and life history interviewing conducted over nearly two decades, Essential Trade explores how women cloth and clothing traders like Ngoc have plied their wares through four decades of political and economic transformation: civil war, postwar economic restructuring, socialist cooperativization, and the frenetic competition of market socialism. With close attention to daily activities and life narratives, this groundbreaking work of critical feminist economic anthropology combines theoretical insight, vivid ethnography, and moving personal stories to illuminate how the interaction between gender and class has shaped people’s lives and created market socialist political economy. It provides a compelling account of postwar southern Vietnam as seen through the eyes of the dynamic women who have navigated forty years of profound change while building their businesses in the stalls of Ben Thanh market.

Book GenderSell

    Book Details:
  • Author : Lee E. Robert
  • Publisher : Simon and Schuster
  • Release : 1999-04-02
  • ISBN : 0743204824
  • Pages : 176 pages

Download or read book GenderSell written by Lee E. Robert and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 1999-04-02 with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: GenderSell is the first and only book to offer specific techniques on overcoming the single greatest barrier to effective sales -- selling to the opposite sex. Despite a decade of important research on how differences between the sexes affect personal and workplace relationships, until now virtually every book on selling has ignored these differences. And despite the fact that women make approximately 85 percent of the purchasing decisions on most products and services and now constitute more than 25 percent of today's sales force, nearly all relevant books have been written by men for men in sales about selling to men. Tom Peters, Ken Blanchard, and other management experts have proposed that companies must learn how to market, sell, and advertise differently to men and women in order to stay competitive. Now at long last, psychologist and workplace communication expert Judith Tingley and veteran sales professional Lee E. Robert bring you this essential guide. Based on research, including the authors' Sales Preference Survey, conducted with more than 600 participants, Tingley and Robert provide detailed examples, specific techniques, and provocative case studies that will help sales professionals increase their success, their revenues, and their profits. The authors answer many important questions: When should you focus more on the interpersonal process and when on the product? What quality do customers say they like most about men in sales? What characteristic do they think is strongest in female sales professionals? Is the timing of the close different with male and female clients? The industry buzz has begun: In response to articles on the Gendersell topic that have appeared in trade publications and to training seminars offered by the authors, executives from a wide range of industries -- high tech to automobile dealerships, insurance companies to home builders and health care delivery services -- have been clamoring for GenderSell to make it an integral part of their worldwide sales strategies.

Book Business Doing Good

Download or read book Business Doing Good written by Shannon Deer and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2021-08-15 with total page 229 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Outlines six principles and best practices for hiring and retaining women with challenging backgrounds Recently, business leaders have shifted their focus from a profit-only mindset to considering the impact of their businesses on all stakeholders. At the same time, the United Nations set aggressive Sustainable Development Goals (SGDs) to improve our world by 2030. These SDGs address all major needs facing our world today, such as: eradication of poverty and hunger, access to clean water, gender equality, and decent work and economic growth. These are significant problems facing the world that have in the past largely been left to nonprofit organizations and governments to solve. Investors and customers have higher expectations for companies to make a positive social and environmental impact. They want to know business can do good. Following suit, today’s business leaders are starting to recognize we will never fill the gap between where we are and where we want to be if businesses do not also do their part to contribute sustainable solutions to these enormous social problems. This book provides a guide for businesses to make a significant positive impact while also benefiting their businesses. Business Doing Good outlines six principles business leaders can implement to effectively hire women who have experienced incarceration, poverty, addiction, and/or engagement in the sex trade. While making a difference to both these women and communities, businesses benefit from the women’s resourcefulness, resilience, ability to motivate, and other unique skills and perspectives only available to someone who has overcome difficulties. Investments in women, in general, are exponential as they are more likely to return that investment to future generations. The impact is endless. If we are going to end poverty and create economic development, women who have overcome challenging pasts cannot be excluded.

Book Selling Women Short

Download or read book Selling Women Short written by Louise Marie Roth and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2011-06-27 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rocked by a flurry of high-profile sex discrimination lawsuits in the 1990s, Wall Street was supposed to have cleaned up its act. It hasn't. Selling Women Short is a powerful new indictment of how America's financial capital has swept enduring discriminatory practices under the rug. Wall Street is supposed to be a citadel of pure economics, paying for performance and evaluating performance objectively. People with similar qualifications and performance should receive similar pay, regardless of gender. They don't. Comparing the experiences of men and women who began their careers on Wall Street in the late 1990s, Louise Roth finds not only that women earn an average of 29 percent less but also that they are shunted into less lucrative career paths, are not promoted, and are denied the best clients. Selling Women Short reveals the subtle structural discrimination that occurs when the unconscious biases of managers, coworkers, and clients influence performance evaluations, work distribution, and pay. In their own words, Wall Street workers describe how factors such as the preference to associate with those of the same gender contribute to systematic inequality. Revealing how the very systems that Wall Street established ostensibly to combat discrimination promote inequality, Selling Women Short closes with Roth's frank advice on how to tackle the problem, from introducing more tangible performance criteria to curbing gender-stereotypical client entertaining activities. Above all, firms could stop pretending that market forces lead to fair and unbiased outcomes. They don't.
