Book How to Save Big with Pharmacy Tourism

Download or read book How to Save Big with Pharmacy Tourism written by Susan Connor and published by . This book was released on 2020-08-14 with total page 106 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the United States, Americans pay more for prescription medication than any other country in the entire world. This reality can be heartbreaking for those who simply can't afford the high cost of their prescribed meds. Why should Americans have to pay a "red, white, and blue" tax on medications when our neighbors to the north and south pay so much less for the same thing? We're not talking about a small difference, but in some instances, this can be hundreds of dollars. When I was a nurse in a private doctor's office, I witnessed this stark reality first hand. I witnessed the pain on a grandmother's face when she explained that she had not been able to take her much-needed medications simply because she could not afford them. This conversation and many others like this sparked the catalyst for me to begin researching how Americans could acquire cheaper prescription medications. By traveling out of the country, primarily to Canada and Mexico, you can obtain prescription medications at a fraction of the cost. The cost of visiting Canada or Mexico can easily be offset by the amount of money you can save by purchasing your medications in these countries. Besides, there are tons of fun things to see and do in these magnificent countries! If we can outsource labor, buy clothes and gadgets abroad, and find specialized services in other countries that do way better in that aspect than we do, then why can't we do the same for medicines? The most amazing fact is that with the savings you can make on sourcing your medicines abroad, you can easily use those savings to pay for your travel expenses as well. In some cases, you can even factor in your costs on airfare, transportation, accommodation, and food and still come out with a cheaper bill compared to you buying your meds in the country like you normally would. With that in mind, is there any other reason why you shouldn't just pack your bags and go? In my book, I will show you how you can save tons of money by purchasing your prescription medications outside of the United States. You will learn how to do this safely, legally, and inexpensively. My book focuses on travel to Canada and Mexico because they would be the cheapest countries to make an expedition to from the US. Be sure to check out the preview of this book, so you'll know what value you're getting for your money. I would recommend that you purchase the paperback version of this book because you'll get the Kindle version for free. That's a great deal! I wish you the best of health in a way that you can easily afford.

Download or read book Making Medicines Affordable written by National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2018-03-01 with total page 235 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Thanks to remarkable advances in modern health care attributable to science, engineering, and medicine, it is now possible to cure or manage illnesses that were long deemed untreatable. At the same time, however, the United States is facing the vexing challenge of a seemingly uncontrolled rise in the cost of health care. Total medical expenditures are rapidly approaching 20 percent of the gross domestic product and are crowding out other priorities of national importance. The use of increasingly expensive prescription drugs is a significant part of this problem, making the cost of biopharmaceuticals a serious national concern with broad political implications. Especially with the highly visible and very large price increases for prescription drugs that have occurred in recent years, finding a way to make prescription medicinesâ€"and health care at largeâ€"more affordable for everyone has become a socioeconomic imperative. Affordability is a complex function of factors, including not just the prices of the drugs themselves, but also the details of an individual's insurance coverage and the number of medical conditions that an individual or family confronts. Therefore, any solution to the affordability issue will require considering all of these factors together. The current high and increasing costs of prescription drugsâ€"coupled with the broader trends in overall health care costsâ€"is unsustainable to society as a whole. Making Medicines Affordable examines patient access to affordable and effective therapies, with emphasis on drug pricing, inflation in the cost of drugs, and insurance design. This report explores structural and policy factors influencing drug pricing, drug access programs, the emerging role of comparative effectiveness assessments in payment policies, changing finances of medical practice with regard to drug costs and reimbursement, and measures to prevent drug shortages and foster continued innovation in drug development. It makes recommendations for policy actions that could address drug price trends, improve patient access to affordable and effective treatments, and encourage innovations that address significant needs in health care.
