Currently, 70% of kids drop out of organized sports by the age of 13, which has given rise to a generation of overweight, unhealthy young adults. There is a solution. John O’Sullivan shares the secrets of the coaches and parents who have not only raised elite athletes, but have done so by creating an environment that promotes positive core values and teaches life lessons instead of focusing on wins and losses, scholarships, and professional aspirations. Book Feminisms and Womanisms

Download or read book Feminisms and Womanisms written by Althea Prince and published by Canadian Scholars’ Press. This book was released on 2004 with total page 579 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book brings together theory and praxis, so that feminist discourse interacts as a partner with the lived experience of women's social action. The selections combine classics in feminist thought with work from modern theorists and offer a solid foundation in international feminism. The conceptual understanding embedded in the terms 'feminism' and 'womanism' contributes to feminist discourse, a carefully differentiated focus on the ideological uses of language to define relationships that have been historically mired in domination. The terms also define the way gender often has been used to signify and support domination. Given that feminism and womanism are interpretative concepts, there is always a sense that knowledge-making is in progress; for there is nothing static or stagnant about feminism, feminist theory, and feminist action. The formative nature of the feminist movement has, of necessity, a parallel interpretative theory. This Reader embraces both the formative nature of the movement and the accompanying interpretative theories. It also pays attention to the chronological, cultural, geo-political, racial, and ethnic landscapes and sites where women live, carry out social action, and theorise issues of equality. For both the general and the academic reader, this book will be edifying while providing exposure to the feminist and womanist voices that inform the scholarship.

Download or read book Tobacco Road written by Frances Robert Lato and published by Dog Ear Publishing. This book was released on 2010-05 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a self help book on how to teach yourself to control and in fact stop "your " use of Tobacco in any form once and for all. The author is a 59-year-old male who smoked 1 pack of Cigarettes each day for 22 years. That's 7300 cigarettes per year or in his case it was 160,600 cigarettes for 22 years. That's enough to make anyone sick and certainly has. From the age of 16 to 38 he always knew that one day he would eventually want to stop smoking and find a way to regain control of his life with respects to his one pack a day habit. While driving a truck in the middle of his normal work day back in the summer of 1986, he experienced some sudden fluttering in his chest and dizziness. Because he felt instant fear and out of control over this unexplained feeling he quickly made an appointment to see a cardiologist for a complete physical. Upon completion of his physical with his Doctor he was told he was very fit and in fine shape for a young man at 36 but that by the time he was 45 he could experience some real problems as he already had a wheeze. Even though there is no history of heart problems in his family being of Italian decent, and longevity was well established with parents who lived to almost 90 and grand parents who made it to 95 and 100, his concerns grew. He felt threatened by the thought of heart trouble from smoking because he once witnessed two men die right before his eyes from heart attack, and both men happen to be heavy smokers. His fears began to take their toll rapidly with the doctor's simply advice to "QUIT SMOKING NOW."

Book Cultivating Excellence

Download or read book Cultivating Excellence written by Darryl Cross and published by Greenleaf Book Group. This book was released on 2017-05-16 with total page 302 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why and how do world-class leaders and great performers consistently beat their competition? They realize they cannot go it alone. They use teams and coaches to amplify their results. Many performers who have already surmounted exceptional tests and challenges and have succeeded in business, sports, the military, or the arts well beyond their peers think performance is only up to the individual. Many become frustrated when hours of hard work, years of experience, and expensive educations don’t lead them to the top of their domain. They are already among the best, but they want to be the best. The elite realize there is only so much they can do on their own to achieve that status. They understand they need coaches, colleagues, and competitors to provide the collaboration and competition that serves as a constant push to keep forward momentum going toward attaining that next level. In Cultivating Excellence, Darryl Cross uses thirty years of experience to show top performers that the key to continued enhancement of performance and success is an exceptional coach and team. They guide the elite performers to see situations and challenges in new ways (art), to perfect their craft to the nth degree (science), and to commit to deliberate practice that eliminates performance gaps (grit) and puts the summit within reach.
