Download or read book Home Education written by Charlotte Mason and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2013-02-18 with total page 401 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Home Education consists of six lectures by Charlotte Mason about the raising and educating of young children (up to the age of nine), for parents and teachers. She encourages us to spend a lot of time outdoors, immersed in nature, handling natural objects, and collecting experiences on which to base the rest of their education. She discusses the use of training in good habits such as attention, thinking, imagining, remembering, performing tasks with perfect execution, obedience, and truthfulness, to replace undesirable tendencies in children (and the adults that they grow into). She details how lessons in various school subjects can be done using her approach. She concludes with remarks about the Will, the Conscience, and the Divine Life in the Child. Charlotte Mason was a late nineteenth-century British educator whose ideas were far ahead of her time. She believed that children are born persons worthy of respect, rather than blank slates, and that it was better to feed their growing minds with living literature and vital ideas and knowledge, rather than dry facts and knowledge filtered and pre-digested by the teacher. Her method of education, still used by some private schools and many homeschooling families, is gentle and flexible, especially with younger children, and includes first-hand exposure to great and noble ideas through books in each school subject, conveying wonder and arousing curiosity, and through reflection upon great art, music, and poetry; nature observation as the primary means of early science teaching; use of manipulatives and real-life application to understand mathematical concepts and learning to reason, rather than rote memorization and working endless sums; and an emphasis on character and on cultivating and maintaining good personal habits. Schooling is teacher-directed, not child-led, but school time should be short enough to allow students free time to play and to pursue their own worthy interests such as handicrafts. Traditional Charlotte Mason schooling is firmly based on Christianity, although the method is also used successfully by secular families and families of other religions.

Through a letter written from the teacher's point of view, the class is invited to reflect back on memories made, connections formed, and challenges met. The letter expresses how proud their teacher is of them, and how much they will be missed. Students will also leave on that last day knowing that their teacher is cheering them on for all of the exciting things to come in the future. There is a blank space on the last page for teachers to sign their own name, so that students know that the letter in the book is coming straight from them. With its sincere message and inclusive illustrations, A Letter From Your Teacher: On the Last Day of School is a valuable addition to any elementary school teacher's classroom library.

Book No More Teaching a Letter a Week

Download or read book No More Teaching a Letter a Week written by Rebecca McKay and published by Heinemann Educational Books. This book was released on 2015 with total page 87 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Letter-a-week" may be a ubiquitous approach to teaching alphabet knowledge, but that doesn't mean it's an effective one. In No More Teaching a Letter a Week, early literacy researcher Dr. William Teale helps us understand that alphabet knowledge is more than letter recognition, and identifies research-based principles of effective alphabet instruction, which constitutes the foundation for phonics teaching and learning. Literacy coach Rebecca McKay shows us how to bring those principles to life through purposeful practices that invite children to create an identity through print. Children can and should do more than glue beans into the shape of a "B"; they need to learn how letters create words that carry meaning, so that they can, and do, use print to expand their understanding of the world and themselves.

Book First Letters for Fun Letters A L

Download or read book First Letters for Fun Letters A L written by Wyatt Michaels and published by Speedy Publishing LLC. This book was released on 2012-12-16 with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Kindergarten children often struggle with learning the alphabet. The letters are easy enough to remember, but the variety of letter sounds can be a troublesome thing for a child to overcome. Forcing a child to study these letters can be time consuming and a challenge in itself, as most children (perhaps in a foreshadowing of their teenage and college years) will not enjoy studying word sounds when they could be playing. The perfect solution to this is an educational game, like First Letters for Fun! which provides a much more fun and enjoyable way to learn than traditional books about the alphabet. Designed as a cooperative and interactive experience, First Letters for Fun! is presented in a fun game-like format for young children to play with their parents or someone else who can read. Letters are presented as pictures of common objects, and the child is prompted to select the correct letter from a list of choices. The appropriate letter sounds, A-L in this book, are often presented in many of the choices, whether right or wrong. While the book is designed as a learning experience for the alphabet for kids, an adult is preferred to help the child work through the book. Luckily though, after a few read-throughs of the book, and with the help of picture recognition and repetitive letter sounds, a child may even be able to go through the book themselves!

Book Missing Letters

  • Author : Samuel Otten
  • Publisher :
  • Release : 2020-10-29
  • ISBN : 9781788308199
  • Pages : 62 pages

Download or read book Missing Letters written by Samuel Otten and published by . This book was released on 2020-10-29 with total page 62 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Missing Letters is not a typical alphabet book-it's a word game that teaches the importance of each letter by illustrating what happens when they're removed from words. The results are surprising as words and meaning are transformed. It can be dramatic as Will becomes ill and play becomes pay, or it can be funny when peaks become peas and banana becomes 'baaa'. Lively illustrations and a diverse cast of characters accentuate the changes, helping children increase their phonemic awareness-the ability to hear sounds not only in the starts of words but also in the middle or end. Missing Letters can also extend beyond the pages by thinking of your own words that change when you remove a letter. It's accessible to children of any age. Young pre-readers can focus on the missing sounds and compare the illustrations, while early readers can look at the spellings to spot the difference.
