Book Choosing the Jesus Way

  • Author : Angela Tarango
  • Publisher : UNC Press Books
  • Release : 2014-04-21
  • ISBN : 1469612933
  • Pages : 234 pages

Download or read book Choosing the Jesus Way written by Angela Tarango and published by UNC Press Books. This book was released on 2014-04-21 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Choosing the Jesus Way uncovers the history and religious experiences of the first American Indian converts to Pentecostalism. Focusing on the Assemblies of God denomination, the story begins in 1918, when white missionaries fanned out from the South and Midwest to convert Native Americans in the West and other parts of the country. Drawing on new approaches to the global history of Pentecostalism, Angela Tarango shows how converted indigenous leaders eventually transformed a standard Pentecostal theology of missions in ways that reflected their own religious struggles and advanced their sovereignty within the denomination. Key to the story is the Pentecostal "indigenous principle," which encourages missionaries to train local leadership in hopes of creating an indigenous church rooted in the culture of the missionized. In Tarango's analysis, the indigenous principle itself was appropriated by the first generation of Native American Pentecostals, who transformed it to critique aspects of the missionary project and to argue for greater religious autonomy. More broadly, Tarango scrutinizes simplistic views of religious imperialism and demonstrates how religious forms and practices are often mutually influenced in the American experience.

Book Recent Progress in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry

Download or read book Recent Progress in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry written by Masayuki Shimizu and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 229 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Child and adolescent psychiatry is a complex clinical discipline whose practitioners work in close cooperation with their professional colleagues in clinical medicine, education, social welfare, sociology, family relations theory, and legal affairs. This volume, the first of its kind to be published in Japan, provides a broad-ranging view of recent progress in the rapidly developing field of child and adolescent psychiatry. Topics include infant psychiatry, developmental disorders, the interface between education and psychiatry (especially as it relates to the phenomenon of "school refusal") neurotic disorders, and adolescent psychoses, as well as parental power and child abuse, and psychiatric problems surrounding organ transplantation in children. The section on autism and education focuses on problems of autistic children reaching adolescence, a subject that has rarely been treated so directly. Also of clinical interest and importance is the discussion presented here of high-risk factors for adolescent psychosis. This volume, with contributions by leading professionals in the field, is a valuable source and reference for practitioners, researchers, and students of child and adolescent psychiatry and clinical psychology.

The second edition reflects the lessons learned since that time, along with the developments in learning technology. Setting up and sustaining a successful centre involves strategic skills such as planning and championing; technical skills, including budgeting, marketing and evaluation; and the people skills of communicating, influencing and managing change. There are chapters in the book for all the stakeholders involved, including the learners themselves. How to Set Up and Manage a Corporate Learning Centre offers definitive advice on all of these areas. Sam Malone demystifies what is a difficult, expensive and long term project for any organization.
