Download or read book How to Beat the IRS at the Audit Game written by John Hobart and published by . This book was released on 1995-06-01 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This authoritative manual is written by 2 businessmen who have been "in the trenches" of the business sector for over 20 years & have survived gut wrenching IRS audits. Written in an easy to understand, entertaining, down to earth manner in layman's terms, this manual is loaded with strategies, tips & inside information giving sound advice on how to properly handle that invisible "monster" called the IRS. These practical guidelines address frequently encountered problems such as filing audit proof-tax returns, going through an IRS audit & owing money to the taxman. The authors discuss how the "rich" pay less while ordinary citizens pay more due to our unfair tax system. Readers are informed of how government corruption & the unprecedented contempt of politicians for our welfare are dividing our country into a two-class society, the "haves" & the "have-nots". These thought provoking revelations will turn passive taxpayers into informed, pro-active, action oriented voters. There is something for every "angry" taxpayer in this survival manual, destined to become a favorite reference among those who can't afford expensive professional advice. Book excerpt: No one wants to be audited by the IRS. Even taxpayers who are certain that their returns were accurate and all of their deductions and other tax write-offs are justifiable are somewhat intimidated by the receipt of notice from the IRS that they have been selected for an audit. Having to offer proof of income, deductions, exemptions and credits, especially if the proof may be missing or inadequate, can be unnerving. Even more unsettling is that the IRS auditor can still disagree with your proof even when you have all your receipts. Beat an IRS Audit provides readers with everything they need to know to handle an audit. From discussing information on avoiding the audit in the first place, to explaining what steps to take to prepare for one if selected, the entire process is simplified and made understandable.

Book Irs for Lawyers and Other Dorks

Download or read book Irs for Lawyers and Other Dorks written by Matis and published by Dog Ear Publishing. This book was released on 2010-04 with total page 174 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Outrageous stories about the IRS, the Internal Revenue Service, and you the American taxpayer. Funny stories. You will laugh. You will learn. Your will learn how the IRS works. Your will learn how to deal with them and, you will learn not to be afraid of them. This is a book for everyone; everyone who is in the tax system; and everyone who is not. It is twenty plus years of "hands on" experience of dealing with the IRS. Written in simple, humorous, and informative language, it is for everyone. True stories about you and the taxman, the IRS. You will laugh...and you will learn. Vendel "Ven" Matis was born and, for the most part, raised in New Jersey. That should explain a lot. He graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1964 and received his law degree, JD, from the Marshall-Wyth School of Law, the College of William & Mary, the oldest law school in the country. He has been an attorney since 1969 and began to practice as a tax attorney in 1977. He was a certified specialist in the United States Tax Court. He is now retired. Mr. Matis has traveled extensively throughout the world. He's drunk blood with the Masai in Africa and visited Macchu Pichu, the lost city of the Incas in the Peruvian Andes. He's also done far more dangerous things; he was an Estate planning consultant in Beverly Hills, CA and an expert in offshore trusts in The Caymans in the 1970's. In 1983, Mr.Matis began his tax practice, dealing with the audit and collection divisions of the IRS and the three taxing agencies of the State of California. He chose to represent middle-class Americans who needed the help. He is a "hands-on" specialist who worked every day dealing with middle class tax problems for over 20 years, on behalf of the "average guy." In 2004 he retired and now functions as a consultant. He has written this book for you- the American Taxpayer.

Book Beating the IRS Tax Squeeze

Download or read book Beating the IRS Tax Squeeze written by Yi Qian and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2008-03-17 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For anyone who has had to endure an IRS audit-or hopes they never will-Beating the IRS Tax Squeeze is the story of one woman's journey through an IRS tax audit that lasted five years. Qian Yi began to chronicle her interactions with the Internal Revenue Service soon after her third office audit on December 5, 2002, shortly after she had returned from Shanghai with her husband. By that point, the audit on their 2000 tax return had been going on for twenty months, with eight intimidating IRS CP notices and three office audits-the tax assessment on her and her husband's joint 2000 tax return having escalated from approximately $9,000 to a whopping $78,000. All the while, from the very beginning, Qian arduously negotiated with the IRS and hoped for a quick resolution, but it was everything but quick. Never could Qian have foreseen that their 2000 tax return audit could drag on for five years and that while it was still pending for a resolution, all their tax returns for years 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, and even 2005 would all come under IRS's unrelenting and unremitting scrutiny. In this smart, worldly, and candid book, Qian adheres to the facts of her dealings with the IRS as she recounts her many telephone calls, multiple correspondence audits, and five office audits. Her uplifting tale of survival proves that perseverance is the key-only if you believe you are right-to success with IRS audits and, perhaps, in all aspects of life.

Book Confidence Games

Download or read book Confidence Games written by Tanina Rostain and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 2014-05-02 with total page 421 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The rise and fall of a tax shelter industry that enabled some of America's richest citizens to avoid paying their fair share of taxes. For ten boom-powered years at the turn of the twenty-first century, some of America's most prominent law and accounting firms created and marketed products that enabled the very rich—including newly minted dot-com millionaires—to avoid paying their fair share of taxes by claiming benefits not recognized by law. These abusive domestic tax shelters bore such exotic names as BOSS, BLIPS, and COBRA and were developed by such prestigious firms as KPMG and Ernst & Young. They brought in hundreds of millions of dollars in fees from clients and bilked the U.S. Treasury of billions in revenues before the IRS and Justice Department stepped in with civil penalties and criminal prosecutions. In Confidence Games, Tanina Rostain and Milton Regan describe the rise and fall of the tax shelter industry during this period, offering a riveting account of the most serious episode of professional misconduct in the history of the American bar. Rostain and Regan describe a beleaguered IRS preoccupied by attacks from antitax and antigovernment politicians; heightened competition for professional services; the relaxation of tax practitioner norms against aggressive advice; and the creation of complex financial instruments that made abusive shelters harder to detect. By 2004, the tax shelter boom was over, leaving failed firms, disgraced professionals, and prison sentences in its wake. Rostain and Regan's cautionary tale remains highly relevant today, as lawyers and accountants continue to face intense competitive pressure and regulators still struggle to keep pace with accelerating financial risk and innovation.
