Book excerpt: "Wetlands may be broadly categorised as natural or artificial (e.g. stormwater). Natural wetlands are ecosystem features that provide amenities such as biodiversity, flood control or water purification, though they also imply disamenities such as insects or limits on development. Artificial wetlands are a type of built infrastructure that mimic the natural on serving the purposes of stormwater collection or flood control. Urban planning defines the dimension and location of built infrastructure and open spaces across Auckland. Wetlands and parks affect the shape of the city, which is incorporated by households when making housing purchase and relocation decisions and, consequently, prices. This study uses hedonic prices (HP) models to investigate how wetlands affect residential property prices in the Auckland region. The HP models rely on market transactions for differentiated houses to determine the implied value of each of the housing characteristics and other environmental amenities affecting prices."--Executive summary.

However, the reasons for that visitation are found in the non-material, non-economic values that parks offer to people: values that are cultural, therapeutic, scientific, spiritual, recreational, educational, and aesthetic/artistic. Download or read book Sugar Heritage and Tourism in Transition written by Lee Jolliffe and published by Channel View Publications. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 239 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sugar as a global commodity has shaped our world, impacting cultures and influencing cuisine. The heritage of sugar is investigated in the context of globalization and tourism development. Facets of the sugar story include colonization, enslavement, decolonization and postcolonial tourism while cultural practices traced to sugar include carnival and confectionery as souvenirs. However, what happens where sugar is still produced, where production is in decline, or where the country has exited from producing? How is sugar engrained in national identities and how does this influence tourism? From the perspectives of contributing authors, destination examples include Brazil, India, Taiwan, New Zealand, Australia, Barbados, Cuba, Dominican Republic, St. Lucia, and St. Kitts. This is the first work examining sugar heritage in relation to tourism from a global perspective, identifying related tourism directions.
