Download or read book Transition Education and Services for Adolescents with Disabilities written by Patricia L. Sitlington and published by Allyn & Bacon. This book was released on 2000 with total page 442 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book covers the transition of individuals with mild and moderate disabilities to all aspects of adult life. The text includes not only the transition to employment, but also the transition to future living and post-secondary educational environments. Transition Education and Services for Adolescents with Disabilities builds upon the success of past editions, but it also presents a new and fresh look at the areas of transition education and transition services. Two separate models are proposed, one to cover transition education and the other to provide an overview of transition services. The separate but equal emphasis on each model component will help readers see their own roles more clearly. This book is intended for use by those in pre-service education programs as well as those currently in the field.

Download or read book Educating Young Children With and Without Exceptionalities written by Tachelle Banks and published by IAP. This book was released on 2019-02-01 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Early childhood education (ECE) has always been intertwined with the use of developmentally appropriate practice (DAP). To support excellence in ECE, it is critical how the knowledge about individual children and child development principles combined with the knowledge of effective early learning practices. Effective early childhood education involves an interdisciplinary collaborative process that is influenced by many factors. We present these aforementioned realities in Educating Young Children With and Without Exceptionalities: New Perspectives. In addition, we argue that general and special educators need to focus on applying new knowledge to better address critical issues that advance the field of educator preparation and improve educational outcomes for young children. Early childhood research confirms the need for intensive intervention and remedial education—we need to avoid approaches that are “too little” or “too late.” Also proven to yield positive results for children are practices familiar to early childhood educators. These practices include relationship-based teaching and learning; partnering with families; adapting teaching for children from different backgrounds and for individual children; active, meaningful, and connected learning; and smaller class sizes. Evidence of the benefits of these practices suggests that they should be extended more widely into the elementary grades.

This book was released on 2018-08-06 with total page 351 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although the general public in the United States assumes children to be generally healthy and thriving, a substantial and growing number of children have at least one chronic health condition. Many of these conditions are associated with disabilities and interfere regularly with children's usual activities, such as play or leisure activities, attending school, and engaging in family or community activities. In their most severe forms, such disorders are serious lifelong threats to children's social, emotional well-being and quality of life, and anticipated adult outcomes such as for employment or independent living. However, pinpointing the prevalence of disability among children in the U.S. is difficult, as conceptual frameworks and definitions of disability vary among federal programs that provide services to this population and national surveys, the two primary sources for prevalence data. Opportunities for Improving Programs and Services for Children with Disabilities provides a comprehensive analysis of health outcomes for school-aged children with disabilities. This report reviews and assesses programs, services, and supports available to these children and their families. It also describes overarching program, service, and treatment goals; examines outreach efforts and utilization rates; identifies what outcomes are measured and how they are reported; and describes what is known about the effectiveness of these programs and services.
