Book Household Decision Making and Gender Role

Download or read book Household Decision Making and Gender Role written by Prakriti Das and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2012 with total page 136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Decision making by woman is an indicator of her status in the household. These decisions in households range from trivial issues like decision making about daily purchases to issues like deciding the number of children which have serious consequences in women's health. The men always have some views regarding the decision making role of their wives in the household. A greater communication between men and women will encourage the husbands to develop egalitarian views and attitude towards wives' decision making. The book has been organized into four main chapters. The first chapter gives an in-detail description of the National Family Health Survey (2005-06), followed by discussion of the concept of empowerment of women put forward by NFHS-3 as well as the different scholars through an extensive literature review. The second chapter elaborates different aspects of methodology for the purpose of research in this study. The third chapter deals with the results and discussion after analyzing both the primary and secondary data. The fourth chapter provides a summary of the findings of the study.

Book A process guide for the development of a mixed methods research tool for measuring and understanding intra household decision making

Download or read book A process guide for the development of a mixed methods research tool for measuring and understanding intra household decision making written by Mwakanyamale, Devis and published by Intl Food Policy Res Inst. This book was released on 2023-02-13 with total page 63 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Numerous approaches have been developed by researchers for measuring intra-household decisionmaking. Most use quantitative surveys that often rely on a standard set of questions that inquire about who contributes to key household decisions or women’s abilities to participate in these decisions. Such questions have been criticized for focusing too much on the identity of the decision maker and less on understanding why and how decisions get made within the household and on the multiple facets of women’s roles in decision-making processes1. To address the shortcomings of current approaches, we (an interdisciplinary group of applied gender and agriculture researchers) developed a transdisciplinary and mixed-methods approach that can be adapted across livelihoods and geographies to measure intra-household decision making and shed light on the “who,” “why,” and “how” of important household decisions. This guide describes the transdisciplinary process that was used to develop the mixed-methods research tool for understanding and measuring intra-household decision making. In our approach, we focus on measuring who makes which decisions, how, and why and how this influences food, nutrition, and economic security outcomes. This guide, therefore, provides a base for other researchers and development practitioners to develop a context-specific mixed-methods tool for understanding and measuring intra-household decision making.

Book Conflict and Decision Making in Close Relationships

Download or read book Conflict and Decision Making in Close Relationships written by Erich Kirchler and published by Psychology Press. This book was released on 2013-01-11 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Love and money are important aspects of the everyday lives of couples. This book focuses on the daily routines of disagreement, conflict and joint decisions on these, and other issues such as work, leisure and children, create in the household. Central to the authors' research is a unique diary study of forty couples, who kept a daily record of their joint decisions over the course of a year. The diaries show how challenging, varied and complex the conflicts and decision making of normal everyday life can be and reveal that goals frequently change during the decision-making process with the result that the final outcome often achieves a goal distinct from the original intention. Furthermore, the dynamics of decision making differ according to the problem at stake, the decision-making history of the couple, and the quality of the partnership. The results of the diary study are discussed within the overall context of current research in the field as a whole, including discussion of joint decision-making case studies, close relationships, decision-making research in general and special research methods. Numerous results of psychological, sociological, economic and consumer behaviour studies are summarised and integrated into a model of household decision-making. This book will be primarily of interest to students and researchers in social psychology and economic psychology, but its interdisciplinary and applied nature will also make it of relevance to professionals working in the fields of family therapy and consumer behaviour.

Book Public Economics and the Household

Download or read book Public Economics and the Household written by Patricia Apps and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2009-03-05 with total page 303 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Economic models in much of the public economics literature have been slow to reflect the significant changes towards double-income households throughout the developed world. This graduate-level text develops a more sophisticated approach to household economics, one that allows for multiple-income earners and shared decision-making. This approach is used to present a fundamentally new view of consumption. It then applies this to an analysis of tax systems, combining theoretical analysis of optimal taxation and tax reform with careful empirical study of the characteristics of income tax systems in four different countries: Australia, Germany, the UK and the USA. The book is particularly concerned with analysing, both theoretically and empirically, the impact of taxation on female labour supply, and identifying its effects on work incentives and fairness of income distribution. All this adds up to a fascinating new approach to the economics of household for researchers in both public and private sectors.
