Book Plumbing

Download or read book Plumbing written by William Beall Gray and published by . This book was released on 2015-08-05 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Plumbing: A Working Manual of American Plumbing Practice, Including Approved Fixtures, Piping Systems, House Drainage, and Modern Methods of Sanitation Modern methods of sanitation as well as the complications introduced by the development of the city building, have in late years placed responsibilities on the professional plumber far beyond the ability to wipe a joint and solve the ordinary drainage problems of a frame dwelling. The successful plumber must not only be a good workman who knows where to use lead pipe and where to use brass and iron, how to properly place the drains and the piping, and how to properly mount the fixtures; bit he must be versed in the principle of sanitation, the proper location of tanks, the sizes of water and drainage pipe, the laws of water flow, pressure, and many other questions involved in giving to any dwelling, office building, or factory, adequate and well designed water and drainage systems. This means that the up-to-date plumber must really be a sanitary engineer and it is to give the practical man authoritative information on these subjects that this little volume has been published. The article covers a discussion of the latest types of plumbing fixtures; house water supply with practical examples and diagram showing methods of installation; pumps and service pipes; connections for hot-water systems with temperature regulators; filters and water motors; gas piping and meter reading; sewage disposal and purification; sewer construction; and the description of a complete house drainage system. The authors are both men of reputation and long experience in practical plumbing work, and it is their hope as well as that of the publishers that this volume will prove of distinct value to the professional plumber as well as to those who are only interested in keeping in touch with modern progress. Book Recent Practice in the Sanitary Drainage of Buildings

Download or read book Recent Practice in the Sanitary Drainage of Buildings written by Wm Paul Gerhard and published by . This book was released on 2015-06-28 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Recent Practice in the Sanitary Drainage of Buildings: With Memoranda on the Cost of Plumbing Work A great philosopher once said that "the fault of most books is their being too long." The author's aim has been to avoid this fault, by stating in plain language, as briefly as possible, what constitute the leading requirements of sanitary drainage as applied to buildings. The first and third parts (the Second, third and sixth in the new edition) of this little book deal with the general principles of house drain-age, while the second part (the fourth in the new edition) discusses in detail the requirements as to material, workmanship and arrangement of sanitary plumbing. These, it is believed, will be found particularly useful by architects and engineers in preparing complete plumbing specifications for all classes of buildings. The fourth part, (the fifth part in the new edition) giving memoranda on the cost of plumbing work, will, it is hoped, be found by many to be a welcome addition. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Plumbing and Household Sanitation It is hoped that Boards of Health will avail themselves of some simple standard form of apparatus and methods of demonstration which any plumber can construct of ordinary piping, with cistern, vacuum gauge, and ordinary quick closing valves, and relieve a long-suffering public of abur den in plumbing construction, still required in the majority of cities and towns Of the United States, which is, to ex press it in the mildest terms, a most gigantic blunder. Book Sanitary Fittings and Plumbing Classic Reprint

Download or read book Sanitary Fittings and Plumbing Classic Reprint written by George Lister Sutcliffe and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2016-11-05 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Sanitary Fittings and Plumbing During the last quarter of a century, so many books have been written on the sanitation of build ings that there would be little need for another work on any part of the subject, were it not that sanitary science is still rapidly progressing. New discoveries and inventions are continually pressing for notice, and old problems are being solved in new ways. In this book an attempt has been made to enunciate the general principles now governing the design of sanitary work in buildings, and also to describe and illustrate the most important modern sanitary fittings and the plumber's work in connection with them. No claim is made that the book is exhaustive, but the author ventures to hope that it will prove sufficiently thorough to be of use to the young architect, sanitary engineer, and plumber, and that it may also serve as a guide to the householder in the choice of fittings, and enable him to distinguish good work from bad. The greater part of the book appeared as a series of articles in T/ze Builder during the first half of this year, but fresh matter has been added to render the work more complete. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Lectures on the Principles of House Drainage: Delivered Before the Suffolk District Medical Society and the Boston Society of Architects, at the Mass; Institute of Technology As announced in the invitation cards to this lecture, a number of the appliances used for illustration are inventions of my own, and some of them are patented. These devices have been clearly marked on the drawings with their name, "Sanitas," and in referring to them they will always be so designated. The object of this is that every one may know when anything of my own is referred to, and be able to assure himself that the subject is treated without bias. My intention is to make no statement which is not founded on facts recognized by all or easily demonstrated, nor to follow any course of reasoning which is not perfectly clear and logical. In order, moreover, to make our meeting as satisfactory and fruitful as possible, it is hoped that every one will make a note of any point which may not be perfectly clear to him, or of any deductions with which he may not be fully in accord, and mention them in the discussion following the lecture, so that the reasoning leading to these deductions may be reexamined or more clearly stated. It is proper to add that the devices are the outgrowth of a careful practical study of plumbing made from the unprejudiced standpoint of the architect working for the interest of his client.
