Book excerpt: I will commit myself to you forever—in steadfast love and tender compassion. (Hosea 2:19) The prophet Hosea used the heart-rending story of his marriage to an unfaithful wife as a moving object lesson of the pain which God felt when his people Israel rejected his love. Rather than worshipping the true God, who had brought them out of slavery in Egypt, the nation had reverted to worshipping idols to such an extent that God was compelled to use the words of the divorce formula and say to them “you are not my people.” Yet remarkably, when Hosea’s wife left him for another man, God’s command to the prophet was for him love his wife again, and take her back to his home—that by doing so he might illustrate the grace and unending love of God toward his erring people—the relationship was to be restored! In the midst of serious warnings for the unrepentant, the book of Hosea offers hope that no matter how far a relationship may have broken down, there are none which cannot be restored. In particular, our relationship with God can be renewed by his forgiveness and grace.

This book was released on 2012 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When God does his work in the heart and life of a person his intent is radical change. Jesus did not die on the cross so that we could be improved versions of our old selves. Instead he came to give us a new heart and a new life. Do you see yourself in need of radical change? From the first chapter of Hosea we are drawn into an amazing love story unlike any other in Scripture. With every twist and turn God’s love is revealed as unconditional, faithful, and true. This in-depth study of Hosea looks closely at the unusual story of Hosea and Gomer and reveals the truths God wants his chosen people to understand. From the pagan groves to the back alleys, you will marvel as God seeks, call, and longs for the return of the one he loves. The narrative of Hosea and its depiction of Israel is far from being just an ancient love story. The themes of redemption, reconciliation, and revival are as relevant today as they were in the times of Hosea. This eleven-week study includes a weekly lesson and daily assignments. It is formatted to be used in a group setting or individually.

Book excerpt: Uncovers the personal, deeply emotional nature of God's love We're all familiar with heartbreak. We know what it's like to be betrayed by someone we love. What we often forget--or may not even realize--is that God can relate to those feelings. Every time we betray Him, He endures intense heartbreak. Only in God's case, He doesn't act on paranoia, distrust, or smothering possessiveness, but rather a righteous jealousy, borne of our duty to reserve our highest devotion for Him alone. With her newest Bible study, Sue Edwards dives into Hosea's story. This prophet's life is a stunning illustration of how God's fierce love for us can manifest wonders. In Hosea's time, the nation of Israel needed that lesson--and God used the prophet as a teaching tool. This gifted preacher was commanded by God to marry a prostitute named Gomer, and to return to her again and again after she betrayed him in the most public ways. Hosea's fascinating story and sermons will revolutionize every reader's perspective on life's circumstances. His example shows how God sometimes responds to our betrayal with tough love that reorients our focus and wakes us up to return to intimate fellowship with Him. But even as Hosea's marriage demonstrates that the tough love of our heavenly Father can be grueling, it is always in our best interest--and it isn't His final move. Dig into Hosea and discover the truth of God's ferocious love and merciful purposes.

  • Pages : 234 pages

Download or read book Seeking Purity written by Laura Ford and published by CrossBooks Publishing. This book was released on 2012-03 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Seeking purity seems to have fallen out of vogue for contemporary Christians and laypeople, just as it did in the time of Hosea. Though Hosea was a minor prophet, his pages in the Bible address the major themes of purity, reprimand, restoration, and God's love for His people despite impurities, wickedness, and sin. In Seeking Purity: An In-depth Study of the Book of Hosea, Bible teacher and author Laura Ford digs into the book of Hosea and reveals the path to drawing closer to the Lord. Designed as a fourteen-week study for women of all ages, Seeking Purity explores the chapters and lessons of Hosea while also looking to the New Testament for the source of all love, affection, and redemption: Jesus Christ. Question and answer sections allow space and time to reflect upon the lessons either with a group or individually, and readers are encouraged to discover additional biblical linkages on their own. Since we serve a holy God, we too must be holy in order to draw close to Him. The lessons of Hosea the wickedness of the Israelites and the proof and strength of God's love for them despite their sin will inspire women to live lives of purity before the Lord. By being able to say without doubt, "I am a pure bride of Christ," we can experience true intimacy and know we are living the life we were created to live.

Book Hosea What does God want us to learn from it

Download or read book Hosea What does God want us to learn from it written by Ali P. Bechel and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2014-08-03 with total page 61 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It was August 2013, when I was on holidays from school that I started studying and writing about the book of Hosea. At the time I was not having enough time with the Lord and was planning, during the previous weeks, on studying the Bible and spending more time with the God. Turns out He gave me this devotional, if we can call it that way, on the book of Hosea. It was just what I needed at the time-and need every day. Hosea delivers a very strong message from God to his generation. This message is to reach to our generation as well. Hosea displayed the love God had for his people Israel from his time and it is that very same love that He has for you and me, despite all the wrong things we do. Let us check together on this beautiful message God has for us on Hosea's book, which is considered a minor prophet and, yet, with an extraordinary massage of repentance and turning back to the One and only God. Extracted from the Preface by the author.

Book excerpt: The book of Hosea is a spiritual treasure that brings great riches into the lives of Christian people. Hosea honestly records the grief of his failed marriage, along with his powerful preaching to ancient Israel. His marital struggle is used to provide for us a wonderful picture of God’s mercy and forgiveness. Hosea gives us delightful insight into the loving heart of our covenant-keeping God. In a series of 38 meditations this study thoroughly explores each chapter of Hosea’s book. It explains the historic context, but also conveys rich meaning for the lives of modern Christians. Hosea has much to say about the desperate spiritual condition of his nation. Yet his dominant theme is the triumph of God’s faithfulness to His gracious promises in spite of human sin. God’s extraordinary mercy continually urges repentance and seeking the Lord as the pathway to forgiveness and spiritual renewal. Hosea’s teaching reveals God’s direction for pursuit of a vibrant spiritual life. Most importantly, he points to the hope of glorious spiritual restoration that can only be fulfilled by the finished work of Jesus Christ.

Book excerpt: "Unto the synagogs of Jehovah Nissi, Israel's banner, beyond the highest peaks of the mount of Olives, I send this history and spiritual insight about that lowly prophet, Hosea, that is most wonderful, true, and desperately needed. For our Father of Distant Lights taught us well that His unconditional love was well reflected within the marriage of that prophet of love, who adored His Most High so fervently that he obediently took the dirty hand of a woman of fornication, while trusting that our Great I Am would clean it up, so his hand would not become too grimy. And just as the God of Abraham and Issac has always been married to the back slidder, it was up to Hosea alone to display the type of unconditional forgiveness that our Almighty wants to bestow unto everyone with a heart of flesh; For it is so very true that many have hearts of stone that can not truly forgive, nor love unselfishly. And since the word of God is life giving just like blood His promises flow between two people, illuminating and preparing them, while helping such souls to distance themselves from impurity. But when Hosea married an impure woman, worthy of being stoned, the Lords faithful few learned once and for all that they would receive many benedictions and crowns of glory from on high, if only they would strive for the kind of godly love that shined forth out of Hosea like the sun ablaze.

Book God s Enduring Love in the Book of Hosea

Download or read book God s Enduring Love in the Book of Hosea written by Joy Philip Kakkanattu and published by Mohr Siebeck. This book was released on 2006 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Joy Philip Kakkanattu provides an exegetical and theological analysis of an important and difficult text of the Old Testament through a synchronic and diachronic reading. Detailed critical notes, which discuss the textual difficulties, accompany the translation of the text from Hebrew. In the detailed exegesis, special attention is given to study of the key terms theologically significant in Hos 11:1-11 against the context of the whole book. The exegesis shows that in Hos 11:8-9 it is not the repentance of Yahweh that causes the withholding of His anger against Israel, but Yahweh's constancy in His election of Israel as His son. More than a change of heart, the decision not to execute the deserved judgement witnesses Yahweh's divine nature. Special attention is dedicated to the parent metaphor employed in Hos 11:1-11. It is concluded that more than expressing the Yahweh-Israel relationship as a father-son relationship, the text speaks of it in terms of parent-child relationship. In the diachronic analysis, the author deals with the origin and formation of Hos 11:1-11.
