The technologically advanced cars and the smell of the burnt rubber of the tyres haunt him all the time. When Neo-racing creates space for a team from India, Sarvesh is determined to be a part of it. Tagging along as a non-descript member of another giant team is not going to suffice. Along with his best friend Rags, he is determined to lead his own team on to Neo-racing race circuits. Naaz is an orphan who has been raised in a garage and has never studied beyond the fourth grade. She has taught herself all that she knows about cars by working alongside sweaty mechanics. This knowledge allows her to deduce in three seconds that the car design created by Sarvesh and Rags will not qualify for New-Racing. Friendship is tested, loyalties are questioned and spirits are broken in this challenging race to achieve an impossible dream.

Book excerpt: Professor Hagler strolled into yet another Las Vegas Casino, inserted one bill, hit the maximum play button, and again hit a jackpot hand. Travis Ryan has been following the professor for several days and it was always the same. There would be a visit to five different casinos'; five hands of video poker, five jackpots, and the professor would return home twenty thousand dollars richer. The problem facing Travis was to determine if the professor was a lone cheat or was he a part of a well-oiled gang of thieves that were milking the casinos out of millions of dollars. And the biggest question of all was "how was he cheating?" When the professor was found dead, the case changed from a casino scam to a murder investigation.

Download or read book Everyday Las Vegas written by Rex J. Rowley and published by University of Nevada Press. This book was released on 2013-04-01 with total page 456 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Every year, more than thirty-five million people from all over the world visit Las Vegas; only two million call the city home. Everyday Las Vegas takes a close look at the lives of those who live in a place the rest of the world considers exotic, even decadent. Using broad research, including interviews with more than one hundred Las Vegans, Rex Rowley--who grew up in Las Vegas--examines everyday life in a place that markets itself as an escape from mundane reality. Rowley considers such topics as why people move to Las Vegas, the nature of their work and personal lives, the impact of growth and rapid change, and interaction with the overwhelmingly touristic side of the city. He also considers the benefits and perils of living in a nonstop twenty-four-hour city rich in entertainment options and easy access to gambling, drugs, and other addictions. His examination includes the previously unstudied role of neighborhood casinos patronized by locals rather than tourists and the impact that a very mobile population has on schools, churches, and community life. Rowley considers the very different ways people perceive a place as insiders or outsiders, a dichotomy that arises when tourism is a mainstay of the local economy. His work offers insights into what Las Vegas can teach us about other cities and American culture in general. It also contributes to our understanding of how people relate to places and how the personality of a place influences the lives of people who live there.
Download or read book No Work and All Play written by Roger Wagner and published by Outskirts Press. This book was released on 2011-05-26 with total page 445 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The contents of the book describe the many examples of the types of characters and crazy daily episodes that an average person who selects a career in casino hotel management will witness and are part of during a lifetime in such a career. The book is really not about me, but it is a lifetime chronicle of my career where every work day is fun and there is almost never any drudgery. The three most interesting characters in the book are none other than a tycoon named Donald Trump, a Casino Icon named Jack Binion and a baseball legend named Mickey Mantle. The book also describes many other very interesting real-life persons in my career from Mob-connected people to other well known casino operators of their day. Most of these characters are not famous celebrities but their stories are sometimes even more humorous than those of Trump or Mantle. The stories about these people are real and actually happened, although the actual dates may be incorrect in some cases and some of the intricate details may be embellished to improve the stories. None of the tales degrade any of the characters in my book, but I do tell humorous stories about all of them that demonstrate they all have to put their pants on one leg at a time like the rest of us. It is not a text book, but it can serve as a good primer for a person considering making gaming hospitality their career objective. The seven different sections of the book are written to show how a person entering a casino hospitality position might evolve from the lowest level in a casino organization to a very high level of management, and that it generally takes many years to accomplish. It also describes the different relationships that one develops in any type of business and I use real people to illustrate how they each fit into the different types of relationships.

Download or read book Legacy written by Winston Hardegree and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2007-11 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Winston Hardegree was born in the throes of the Great Depression in 1932, but spent happy boyhood summers on his grandparents' rural Alabama farm, where hard work and adventure led to a deep appreciation for life's simple pleasures. At nineteen, Winston lost his father and suddenly became family patriarch for his mother, siblings, and new bride. He took a job in the local textile mill, and over thirty-five years of unrelenting hard work became a successful top-executive of this international company. Disenchanted, Winston decided to return to the simpler way of life he had so loved as a boy. Winston's quest to reintroduce the man he had become to the boy of his youth brought about these stories of gardening, life with regular folk and beloved animals, and adventures that Winston and his wife, Beth, shared in the garden, in love, and in living the autumn and winter of his years at The Blessed Earth Farm in the rural upstate of South Carolina. This book is a compilation of essays and short stories written during Winston's search for simplicity, and his observations on life and on death, as he faces the final days of a terminal illness. This is Winston Hardegree's Legacy.
