Book Horses for Courses

Download or read book Horses for Courses written by Anne Holland and published by Random House. This book was released on 2011-10-14 with total page 154 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There can be no better way of getting to know Ireland than by visiting its racecourses: from the glamour of Leopardstown and the class of The Curragh to the majestic mountains around Killarney; from the warm welcome at Gowran Park and Clonmel to the summer holidaymakers' meetings and 'industry' days in the winter months. At any one of these venues, you might catch a glimpse of a future Cheltenham Gold Cup champion or Derby winner in action. Horses for Courses guides readers through a typical year in Irish racing and highlights the individuality of each venue. All have their own special qualities and atmosphere but share two common traits: a warm welcome and good sport. And that is what the author believes Irish racing is all about. The country's courses enjoy a huge level of support from the local population. It might be raining and some of the races may be 'ordinary' but the stands will always be crowded. That is because racing is part of Irish culture and the nation's way of life: with 27 courses, it has proportionately far more venues than Great Britain. Meticulously researched and passionately written, Horses for Courses is the definitive guide to Ireland's racecourses and is essential reading for horse-racing enthusiasts everywhere.

This book investigates the question of whether cheating is discouraged and fair play rewarded, both to an adequate degree.

Download or read book Horses for Courses written by Russell S. Stokes and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2018-06-29 with total page 89 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I started writing this book many years ago, and it has just been gathering dust, as I did not know the process involved in getting a book published. However, I went on a holiday to Malaysia, and I was telling a lady friend I had just met that I had enough information about horses to write three books. The first one is for beginners. Without my knowledge, she contacted a book publisher and started the ball rolling. For myself, learning about horses was all hands-on working and learning over many years. However, these days, new riders are learning from TAFE courses, riding schools, pony clubs, books, and the internet. In my day, this was not the case. I left home at the age of fourteen to start learning about horses, as from a very early age, I knew I wanted to be a jockey. My love for horses has never faded.

Book Confidence Trust Solving the Horse Human Equation

Download or read book Confidence Trust Solving the Horse Human Equation written by Dr Shelley Appleton and published by Dr Shelley Appleton. This book was released on 2021-08-19 with total page 78 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nervous rider? Feeling frustrated? In this book Dr Shelley Appleton helps you discover the origins and complexities of your frustrations and why the methods you may have been using haven't helped your nerves. It gives you an understanding of the barriers that impact building confidence and trust in your horse. Dr Appleton facilitates a multilayered approach to understand where, how and why fears and frustrations come from and how to overcome them. Are "brave" riders really brave? What she discovered redefines the "brave" rider as competent, trusting and above all analytical. This allowed her to identify that confidence can be expressed as an equation: Confidence = Competence (in yourself) x Trust (in your horse) x Time This equation allows riders to target the disconnect between human and horse, helping solve confidence issues and bringing back true enjoyment to riding. This book has focussed on delivering the message succinctly, making difficult concepts easy to understand and gives you a practical approach that is easily tailored to your situation.

Book Bureaucratizing the Muse

    Book Details:
  • Author : Steven C. Dubin
  • Publisher : University of Chicago Press
  • Release : 1987-08-04
  • ISBN : 9780226167480
  • Pages : 252 pages

Download or read book Bureaucratizing the Muse written by Steven C. Dubin and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 1987-08-04 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Comprehensive Employment and Training Act made a dramatic entrace on the American economic and social stage in December 1973. No comparable commitment of public funds to subsidize jobs had occurred since the Works Progress Administration programs of the 1930s. An important beneficiary of CETA was the Artists-in-Residence program, in operation from 1977 to 1981. As part of the largest direct monetary transfer to artists since the WPA, AIR employed 108 Chicago-area artists each year in nine fields—from dance and music to video and graphic arts. Bureaucratizing the Muse is a study of the Chicago AIR program. By its very nature art is a nonrational process, even at times antirational, and the idea of organizing artists in this kind of work environment was an unusual one. Steven C. Dubin's account is a fascinating story of the tensions between struggling artists who need a paycheck but fear the compromise of their art and bureaucrats who need to produce measurable results.

Book Applications of Systems Approaches at the Farm and Regional Levels

Download or read book Applications of Systems Approaches at the Farm and Regional Levels written by P.S. Teng and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 467 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Systems approaches for agricultural development are needed to determine rational strategies for the role of agriculture in national development. Mathematical models and computer simulation provide objective tools for applying science to determine and evaluate options for resource management at field, farm and regional scales. However, these tools would not be fully utilizable without incorporating social and economic dimensions into their application. The second international symposium, Systems Approaches for Agricultural Development, held in Los Baños, 6-8 December 1995, fostered this link between the bio-physical sciences and the social sciences in the choice of keynote papers and oral presentations, a selection of which is included in this book. The book's contents further reflect how systems approaches have definitely moved beyond the research mode into the application mode. The large number and high quality of interdisciplinary research projects reported from different parts of the globe, to determine land use options that will meet multiple goals and yet sustain natural resource bases, is a key indicator of this `coming of age'. At the farm level, where trade-off decisions between processes and products (commodities) feature strongly, much progress is also evident in the development of systems-based tools for decision making. This book will be of particular interest to all agricultural scientists and planners, as well as students interested in multidisciplinary and holistic approaches for agricultural development.

Book Some Cambridge Controversies in the Theory of Capital

Download or read book Some Cambridge Controversies in the Theory of Capital written by G. C. Harcourt and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2022-06-02 with total page 353 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Cambridge Capital Controversy was one of the most significant debates in Twentieth Century economics. First published in 1972, this book provides an accessible reconstruction of the controversy with detailed discussion of the major points raised by its primary protagonists: Piero Sraffa and Joan Robinson on the post-Keynesian side (Cambridge, UK) and Robert Solow and Paul Samuelson on the neo-classical side (Cambridge, MA). The book is now considered to be a classic. This fiftieth anniversary edition comes with a new preface by the author and two new afterwords that reflect on the author's contribution to the field and the significance of the book in the history of economics. Topics covered include the measurement of capital, the revival of interest in Irving Fisher's rate of return on investment, the double-switching debate, Sraffa's prelude to a critique of neoclassical theory, and the 'new' theories of the rate of profits in capitalist society.
