Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A scorned woman, an incensed deli owner, a drunken cop, and an antisocial son. These were the most memorable murder defendants to appear before Long Island judge Thomas M. Stark during his thirty-seven years on the bench. None was more notorious than Ronald DeFeo Jr., who in 1975 was convicted of shooting six members of his family, a crime that sparked tales of hauntings later recounted in the best-selling book The Amityville Horror: A True Story. Drawing from his personal files, Stark gives readers an inside look at the brutal murders, the frenzy over the alleged psychic events that followed, and DeFeo’s decades of shifting stories about what really happened that fateful night. The book’s other tales of true crime include long-forgotten cases that mesmerized Long Islanders from the 1960s to the 1980s: the murder-for-hire of an unfaithful paramour, a fire that took the lives of a mother and three children, a Southampton society melee, and more. A noted expert on criminal law, Stark delves into the legal issues raised by each murder and shares the thinking behind his rulings. These real-life cases are sure to fascinate fans of both true crime and courtroom drama as Stark brings to life tragic stories of love and betrayal, a feud turned deadly, partying gone awry, and a family killed in cold blood.

Book The So Called Same Sex Marriage Sweet But The Most Horrific Enemy

Download or read book The So Called Same Sex Marriage Sweet But The Most Horrific Enemy written by Hea Sook Son and published by First Edition Design Pub.. This book was released on 2015-10-09 with total page 63 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Chief Justices argued that same-sex marriage had nothing to do with the Constitution. Four Justices including Chief Justice clearly opposed it. It is very shocking and disgraceful in US history that the so called same-sex marriage was legalized nationwide. It is frightening, that the court’s decision under Obama’s administration did very cruel things to good Americans who have good morality and honesty as what they believe to be true according to their religious beliefs. The bakers were forced to give up their Christian belief, being forced to make cake for gay wedding. Clearly this was in violation of their moral conscience and religious belief. They forced admirable Americans to involve themselves in what they feel is the twisted and the immoral. We were terrified and shocked how things like this could happen in America, the land of freedom and democracy; not of dictatorship or communism. We had never imagined it before. Something terribly wrong is going on in America. Something horrible is going on, intentionally or unintentionally, among the American people and Christians. The freedom of good Americans is being crushed. It will ultimately diminish and demolish the Americans sometime in the future, weakening America, bit by bit, every day. Certainly, I think that Americans, all of us, love our nation America. We all care about the future fate of America. I ask: Do you know the consequence of the so called same-sex marriage? Do you know what will happen in your nation when you and many Americans are in same-sex marriage? Do you see the future of America? America is in a big Crisis. Same-sex marriage is sweet, but the most horrific enemy to America. Keywords: Marriage, Same-Sex Marriage, Silent War, Human Extinction, Sweet, Horrific Enemy, Gay, Lesbian, America, Confusion, LGBT.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fantastic and Horrific Stories (2021) is a collection of short fiction by Arthur Machen. Condemned as decadent and obscene upon publication, Machen’s writing earned praise from Oscar Wilde and H. P. Lovecraft. Throughout the years, Machen’s work has been referenced and adapted by such figures as Stephen King, Guillermo del Toro, and Josh Malerman for its masterfully unsettling blend of science, myth, and magic. The Great God Pan, perhaps Machen’s most celebrated work, is the story of an occult experiment gone horribly wrong. Clarke has always taken an interest in occult matters, so when a friend offers him a chance to witness an experimental procedure intended to access the spirit realm, he cannot refuse. When the young patient Mary awakens, she shows signs of terror and soon falls into a catatonic state. Convinced of their success in discovering the world of “the great god Pan,” Clarke and Raymond agree to keep their discovery a secret. Years later, a nearby town begins reporting the mysterious disappearances of young children, all of whom have been seen in the forest with a

Although he is largely remembered as the author of Dracula (1897), one of the greatest horror novels of all time, Stoker was a versatile writer whose gift for transmitting terror is matched by his ability to craft convincing and moving tales of love. “The Crystal Cup,” first published in London Society in 1872, is the story of an artist who is forced to create a flawless crystal vase for the king. Having left his wife and home behind, he suffers under a series of constraints and grueling demands. “The Chain of Destiny” is a bestselling epistolary tale featuring hypnotism, magic, and supernatural elements that first appeared in The Shamrock in 1875. In Stoker’s 1898 tale “Bengal Roses,” A teenager from the country falls for a beautiful young woman, but soon discovers she loves an older cavalry officer. First published in Lloyd’s Weekly Newspaper in 1899, “A Yellow Duster” is the story of two old men whose lifelong friendship is threatened by a mysterious secret. Curious about a dust rag found in his friend’s display case, the story’s protagonist asks the collector of rare and priceless objects why he has preserved something so seemingly worthless. Other stories collected herein include “Our New House,” published in the Boston Herald in 1895, as well as “The Burial of the Rats” and “A Dream of Red Hands,” both of which appeared in Dracula’s Guest and Other Stories (1914). Romantic and Horrific Stories compiles a dozen works of short fiction by Bram Stoker, the secretive and vastly underrated creator of Dracula, one of history’s greatest villains. With a beautifully designed cover and professionally typeset manuscript, this edition of Bram Stoker’s Romantic and Horrific Stories is a classic of Irish literature reimagined for modern readers.

Book Weird and Horrific Stories

Download or read book Weird and Horrific Stories written by H. P. Lovecraft and published by Graphic Arts Books. This book was released on 2022-09-13 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Weird and Horrific Stories (2021) collects some of H. P. Lovecraft’s finest early work. Although his reputation as one of the world’s greatest writers of horror and weird fiction remains undisputed, much of his writing was published in such pulp literary magazines as Argosy, the United Amateur, and Weird Tales, making it difficult to find proper collections. Weird and Horrific Stories attempts to bridge this gap for modern readers, bringing them face to face with some of Lovecraft’s most terrifying creations. “The Alchemist,” originally written in 1908 and published in 1916, is the story of Count Antoine, whose ancestors were cursed after killing a fearsome dark wizard named Michel Mauvais. Every generation since has seen the death of its male members at the age of thirty-two, an age fast approaching for Antoine. Lonely and terrified, he sets out to put an end to the cycle of death and suffering. “Dagon,” which appeared in The Vagrant in 1919, is a story told by a morphine-addicted man who survived a terrible shipwreck during the First World War. In “The Cats of Ulthar,” published in 1920, an unnamed narrator recounts the legal history of the town of Ulthar, which once was the home to a sadistic couple known for their obsession with torturing and killing housecats. Weird and Horrific Stories collects over thirty stories written at the height of Lovecraft’s career. With a beautifully designed cover and professionally typeset manuscript, this edition of H. P. Lovecraft’s Weird and Horrific Stories is a classic work of American horror reimagined for modern readers.

Book Mysterious and Horrific Stories

Download or read book Mysterious and Horrific Stories written by Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu and published by Graphic Arts Books. This book was released on 2022-09-13 with total page 231 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mysterious and Horrific Stories is a collection of Gothic tales by Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu. Although he is more widely known today for his novella Carmilla (1872), which influenced Bram Stoker’s Dracula (1897) and remains an important work of early vampire fiction, Le Fanu was also an influential figure in mid-nineteenth century Irish literature as a writer and editor for the Dublin University Magazine. Mysterious and Horrific Stories collects fifteen of Le Fanu’s finest works of short fiction from across his storied career. In “The Fortunes of Sir Robert Ardagh,” a man returns home after years abroad accompanied by a strange, shadowy companion. Under mysterious circumstances, Sir Robert has amassed a tremendous fortune and seems either unwilling or unable to reveal the truth behind his sudden rise to wealth. In “Schalken the Painter,” a young Dutch apprentice falls in love with his master’s young niece, the beautiful Rose Velderkaust. Fearful of angering the great painter Gerard Douw, whom he worries would reject a marriage proposal from a struggling artist, he keeps silent about his affections. When an older, wealthier man proposes to Rose, Douw consents to their marriage despite the man’s unsettling appearance. “The Drunkard’s Dream” is a tale of horror in which a man receives a powerful and terrifying vision of Hell. Alongside twelve more tales of ghosts and other supernatural forces, including “An Authentic Narrative of a Haunted House” and “The Child That Went With the Fairies,” these selections from Le Fanu’s body of work continue to entertain and astound nearly two centuries after they first appeared in print. With a beautifully designed cover and professionally typeset manuscript, this edition of Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu’s Mysterious and Horrific Stories is a classic of Irish literature reimagined for modern readers.

This book was released on 2021-11-02 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: God knows whose evil eye fell upon my beloved mountains, that they were ripped apart in this tragedy. I could feel deep inside me the physical and the mental agony of the people of Uttarakhand, and I was trying my best to combat, however possible, to solve all these problems. Anyhow, I have never learnt to accept defeat, yet the helplessness I felt in these circumstances left me trembling. Some of the unrest I felt at that time, are still fresh in my mind. Perhaps, for some people, these may be mere words printed on paper, but I know the flood of anguished emotions that is enveloping me as I write about my memories, is as painful as ever. The pain of seeing Uttarakhand destroyed in this disaster was implanted so deep within my heart that in the desire to heal it, I didn't care about the scorching heat, or be scared by the pouring rain, or worry about the broken roads& pathways, or the frequent landslide. Somewhere, the entire ground would sink and at other places debris from the hills would fall right in front of our vehicle. At places we crossed booming waterfalls, and at others we faced rickety bridges. We would not even realise when night fell, but our steps didn't stop. In such a time, how could I think of not visiting Sumgarh? I told my officer that despite any adverse circumstances, and by any means, we must prepare to go to Sumgarh.

This book was released on 2017-12-06 with total page 201 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When evil clowns menace the screen, do we scream or laugh? When zombies converge to tear a victim limb from limb, do we cringe and hide our eyes, or shriek “What??! Play that again!!”? What about those instances when these seemingly opposite reactions happen at once? This is the phenomenon known as sLaughter. Horrific Humor and the Moment of Droll Grimness in Cinema: Sidesplitting sLaughter presents the first focused look at the moment in audience reception where screams and laughter collide. John A. Dowell and Cynthia J. Miller bring together twelve essays from an international collection of authors across the disciplines. The volume begins with an examination of the aesthetics and mechanics of the sLaughter moment, then moves closer to look at the impact of its awkward frission of humor and horror on the individual viewer, and finally, broadens its lens to explore sLaughter’s implications for the human condition more generally. The chapters discuss such box office hits such as A Clockwork Orange (1971), Fargo (1996), The Dark Knight (2008), and The Cabin in the Woods (2012), as well as cult classics such as The Toxic Avenger (1984) and Dead Snow (2009).
