Book The Pattern and Determinants of Intra Industry Trade in Australian Manufacturing

Download or read book The Pattern and Determinants of Intra Industry Trade in Australian Manufacturing written by Kishor Sharma and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper presents the pattern and determinants of intra-industry trade (IIT) in Australian manufacturing since the late 1970s. The results point to a sharp rise in IIT from the mid 1980s which appears to be linked with an outward-oriented policy. Industry-level analysis indicates that industries which experienced a sharp fall in protection are the industries with the higher levels of IIT. These include textiles, garments, rubber products, and machinery and equipment. An increasing trend in IIT suggests that the short-term adjustment costs associated with trade liberalisation are likely to be lower, and that liberalisation can proceed without huge short-term adjustment costs. Using a logit model the determinants of IIT are investigated. Results indicate that IIT is positively related to product differentiation and scale economies, and negatively related to the levels of protection and foreign ownership in the pre-liberalisation period. In the post-liberalisation period, however, scale economies explain the inter-industry variations in IIT. R&D intensity and close economic integration appear to have no impact on IIT regardless of the nature of the policy regime.

Book Determinants of Intra Industry Trade and Labour Market Adjustment

Download or read book Determinants of Intra Industry Trade and Labour Market Adjustment written by Sakshi Aggarwal and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2024-01-05 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Intra-industry trade (IIT) has emerged as a major area of research in the analysis of international and intra-regional specialization. This book highlights the changes which the Indian economy has witnessed in the past two decades following the economic liberalization of the 1990s. It has been revealed that there are comparatively few studies in the context of developing economies which focus on the country-industry-specific determinants of aggregate and sectoral IIT. The book incorporates several hypotheses to analyze demand-driven, supply-induced, industry-specific, and policy-oriented drivers influencing the level of bilateral aggregate and sectoral IIT in the Indian context. Moreover, several trade-related, labor specific and trade overlap induced factors dictate the growth trajectory and the employment level of an economy. Therefore, the current research conducts an empirical analysis to examine each hypothesis and provide significant findings to explore the relationship between key economic variables, their interaction effects, and their impact on the growth of the Indian economy.

Book Endogenous Horizontal and Vertical Differentiation

Download or read book Endogenous Horizontal and Vertical Differentiation written by Sourish Dutta and published by . This book was released on 2023 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Studying intra-industry trade involves theoretical explanations and empirical methods to measure the phenomenon. Indicators have been developed to measure the intensity of intra-industry trade, leading to theoretical models explaining its determinants. It is essential to distinguish between horizontal and vertical differentiation in empirical analyses. The determinants and consequences of intra-industry trade depend on whether the traded products differ in quality. A method for distinguishing between vertical and horizontal differentiation involves comparing exports' unit value to imports for each industry's intra-industry trade. This approach has limitations, leading to the need for an alternative method.

Book Measuring Horizontal and Vertical Differentiation in Intra industry Trade

Download or read book Measuring Horizontal and Vertical Differentiation in Intra industry Trade written by Sourish Dutta and published by . This book was released on 2022 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The development of research studies concerning the emergence of intra-industry trade is fruitful interaction between theoretical explanations and empirical methods to measure this phenomenon. The foundation of indicators to measure the intensity of intra-industry trading caused the rise of theoretical models explaining the determinants of these trade flows. It also contributed to the debate on the need to distinguish, in empirical analyses, intra-industry trade in horizontal differentiation from that in vertical differentiation.
