Download or read book Drilling Engineering Handbook written by E.H. Austin and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents the fundamental principles of drilling en gineering, with the primary objective of making a good well using data that can be properly evaluated through geology, reservoir engineering, and management. It is written to assist the geologist, drilling engineer, reservoir engineer, and manager in performing their assignments. The topics are introduced at a level that should give a good basic understanding of the subject and encourage further investigation of specialized interests. Many organizations have separate departments, each per forming certain functions that can be done by several methods. The reentering of old areas, as the industry is doing today, particularly emphasizes the necessity of good holes, logs, casing design, and cement job. Proper planning and coordination can eliminate many mistakes, and I hope the topics discussed in this book will playa small part in the drilling of better wells. This book was developed using notes, comments, and ideas from a course I teach called "Drilling Engineering with Offshore Considerations." Some "rules of thumb" equations are used throughout, which have proven to be helpful when applied in the ix x / Preface proper perspective. The topics are presented in the proper order for carrying through the drilling of a well.
Download or read book Applied Drilling Circulation Systems written by Boyun Guo and published by Gulf Professional Publishing. This book was released on 2011-04-21 with total page 273 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Used to clean the borehole, stabilize rock, control pressures, or enhance drilling rates, drilling fluids and their circulation systems are used in all phases of a drilling operation. These systems are highly dynamic and complicated to model until now. Written by an author with over 25 years of experience, Applied Drilling Circulation Systems: Hydraulics, Calculations and Models provide users with the necessary analytical/numerical models to handle problems associated with the design and optimization of cost-effective drilling circulation systems. The only book which combines system modeling, design, and equipment, Applied Drilling Circulation Systems: Hydraulics, Calculations and Models provides a clear and rigorous exposition of traditional and non-traditional circulation systems and equipment followed by self contained chapters concerning system modelling applications. Theories are illustrated by case studies based on the author's real life experience. The book is accompanied by a website which permits readers to construct, validate, and run models employing Newtonian fluids, Bingham Plastic fluids, Power Law fluids, and aerated fluids principles. This combination book and website arrangement will prove particularly useful to drilling and production engineers who need to plan operations including pipe-tripping, running-in casing, and cementing. - In-depth coverage of both on- and offshore drilling hydraulics. - Methods for optimizing both on- and offshore drilling hydraulics. - Contains problems and solutions based on years of experience.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Be prepared for drilling's hottest trend According to the U.S. Department of Energy, by 2005, 30% of all wells will be drilled using gas and air. The Air and Gas Drilling Manual, by William Lyons -- an internationally known expert and holder of nine drilling patents -- lays out everything you need to apply air and gas drilling to all kinds of operations, from the most basic to the most complex, and for the shallowest to the deepest. You’re shown how to: Master the air and gas drilling techniques in vital industries: construction and development of water wells, monitoring wells, geotechnical boreholes, mining operations boreholes, and more Calculate volumetric flow and compressor requirements. Drill with stable foam, unstable foam, and aerated liquids (as well as gas and air) Handle the special considerations of deep hole drilling Perform direct and reverse-flow circulation calculations Specify drills, collars, and casings Engineer and operate specialized downhole projects Plan operations and choose air package contractors
Download or read book A Short History of Medicine written by F. González-Crussi and published by Modern Library. This book was released on 2008-11-11 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Insightful, informed, and at times controversial in its conclusions, A Short History of Medicine offers an exceptional introduction to the major and many minor facets of its subject. In this lively, learned, and wholly engrossing volume, F. González-Crussi presents a brief yet authoritative five-hundred-year history of the science, the philosophy, and the controversies of modern medicine. While this illuminating work mainly explores Western medicine over the past five centuries, González-Crussi also describes how modern medicine’s roots extend to both Greco-Roman antiquity and Eastern medical traditions. Covered here in engaging detail are the birth of anatomy and the practice of dissections; the transformation of surgery from a gruesome art to a sophisticated medical specialty; a short history of infectious diseases; the evolution of the diagnostic process; advances in obstetrics and anesthesia; and modern psychiatric therapies and the challenges facing organized medicine today. Written by a renowned author and educator, this book gives us the very essence of our search to mitigate suffering, save lives, and unlock the mysteries of the human animal. “[González-Crussi fuses] science, literature, and personal history into highly civilized artifacts.” –The Washington Post, on There Is a World Elsewhere
Download or read book The Reproductive Neuroendocrinology of Aging and Drug Abuse written by Charles D. Barnes and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1994-11-22 with total page 422 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The communication between the hypothalamus, pituitary, and gonad is bi-directional, and alterations of the communication in the circuitry, as often occurs during aging and drug abuse, results in acyclicity, hypogonadism, and impotence. This important reference covers topics on the neuroendocrine control mechanisms governing the reproductive process in both males and females. It discusses the importance of the differentiation of the neuroendocrine brain during the developmental period for the normal reproductive process. It also summarizes the effects of prenatal drug abuse on the differentiation of the neuroendocrine brain development and how this alteration induces abnormalities in the reproduction process. This comprehensive volume compares the effects of various psycoactive drugs on the maintenance of reproduction and describes the changes in the reproductive neurendocrine axis during aging.
