Book Higher Education Landscape 2030

Download or read book Higher Education Landscape 2030 written by Dominic Orr and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-05-22 with total page 77 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This open access Springer Brief provides a systematic analysis of current trends and requirements in the areas of knowledge and competence in the context of the project “(A) Higher Education Digital (AHEAD)—International Horizon Scanning / Trend Analysis on Digital Higher Education.” It examines the latest developments in learning theory, didactics, and digital-education technology in connection with an increasingly digitized higher education landscape. In turn, this analysis forms the basis for envisioning higher education in 2030. Here, four learning pathways are developed to provide a glimpse of higher education in 2030: Tamagotchi, a closed ecosystem that is built around individual students who enter the university soon after secondary education; Jenga, in which universities offer a solid foundation of knowledge to build on in later phases; Lego, where the course of study is not a monolithic unit, but consists of individually combined modules of different sizes; and Transformer, where students have already acquired their own professional identities and life experiences, which they integrate into their studies. In addition, innovative practice cases are presented to illustrate each learning path.

Book Crafting the Integrative Value Proposition for Large Scale Transport Infrastructure Hubs

Download or read book Crafting the Integrative Value Proposition for Large Scale Transport Infrastructure Hubs written by Michaël Dooms and published by ASP / VUBPRESS / UPA. This book was released on 2010 with total page 389 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Analyzing the way managers plan for the construction of large infrastructure hubs, this study finds that failure to include all stakeholders at the start of a project hampers the timely completion of major projects--and in worst-case scenarios, implementation fails and major projects are shelved. Using new models of stakeholder theory, the discussion compares four case studies: the extension of DHL at Brussels National Airport; the industrial cluster on the Left Bank of the port of Antwerp; the plan for the port of Brussels, to be completed in 2015; and the plan for the port of Antwerp, to be completed in 2030.

This book was released on 2014-09-17 with total page 71 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: KEY ISSUES Outlook and risks. The economy will remain vulnerable over the medium term, with sluggish real GDP growth, rising public debt and widening external current account deficits. International reserves could decline to uncomfortably low levels. The financial system would continue to be hampered by high NPLs and low capital buffers, especially at a systemic bank. Main fiscal risks include a court decision that could lead to a larger than expected compensation to the former owners of the nationalized companies, weaknesses in a systemic bank, and the cost of the new public bank. Focus of the Consultation. Discussions focused on measures that would place public debt on a sustainable path; address weaknesses in the financial system, particularly in a systemic bank; buttress external sector resilience; and enhance competitiveness and inclusive growth. Key policy advice. ? Improve the primary fiscal balance to about 4.5 percent of GDP starting in 2015. This could be achieved mainly by allowing spending on goods and services to rise only in line with inflation; containing the expansion in the wage bill; requiring public workers to contribute to their pensions; and by widening the tax base and strengthening revenue administration. Active debt management, including refinancing of expensive debt with low-earning deposits (essentially from PetroCaribe), would support these efforts. ? Address banking sector vulnerabilities through improving capital buffers. ? Improve public financial management (PFM) to contain low-quality spending, strengthen budget formulation, preparation, and execution, and improve the coverage and accuracy of budget documents. ? Further improve the business environment to attract more private investment, boost competitiveness, and enhance job-creating and inclusive growth. Implementation of staff advice. Implementation of recent staff advice is mixed. The breathing room provided by the debt restructuring was not used to improve the primary fiscal balance. The authorities plan to review exemptions and zero-ratings under the GST.

Book excerpt: The clock is relentlessly ticking! Our world teeters on a knife-edge between a peaceful and prosperous future for all, and a dark winter of death and destruction that threatens to smother the light of civilization. Within 30 years, in the 2030 decade, six powerful 'drivers' will converge with unprecedented force in a statistical spike that could tear humanity apart and plunge the world into a new Dark Age. Depleted fuel supplies, massive population growth, poverty, global climate change, famine, growing water shortages and international lawlessness are on a crash course with potentially catastrophic consequences. In the face of both doomsaying and denial over the state of our world, Colin Mason cuts through the rhetoric and reams of conflicting data to muster the evidence to illustrate a broad picture of the world as it is, and our possible futures. Ultimately his message is clear; we must act decisively, collectively and immediately to alter the trajectory of humanity away from catastrophe. Offering over 100 priorities for immediate action, The 2030 Spike serves as a guidebook for humanity through the treacherous minefields and wastelands ahead to a bright, peaceful and prosperous future in which all humans have the opportunity to thrive and build a better civilization. This book is powerful and essential reading for all people concerned with the future of humanity and planet earth.

Book The Power of Science

Download or read book The Power of Science written by Domenico Rossetti di Valdalbero and published by Peter Lang. This book was released on 2010 with total page 302 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book highlights the interaction between science and politics and between research in economics and European Union policy-making. It focuses on the use of Quantitative tools, Top-down and Bottom-up models in up-stream European decision-making process through five EU policy case studies: energy taxation, climate change, energy efficiency, renewable energy, and internalisation of external costs. The author reveals how the European Commission grounds part of its legitimacy on the «objectivity of the figures» and on its «technical charisma». Faced by strong stakeholders, an elected European Parliament and a Council representing the national interests, the Commission defends the credibility of its policy initiatives (e.g. energy and environment targets, new market mechanisms) by scientific reports. Through an in-depth analysis of the preparatory legislation (Commission White Papers, Communications, Directive Proposals, Staff Working Documents, Impact Assessments), the author explains how the European Commission justifies economically and supports politically its initiatives. This book offers a new way of understanding the EU decision-making process with special reference to the energy and environment fields.

Book Leadership 2030

Download or read book Leadership 2030 written by Georg Vielmetter and published by AMACOM. This book was released on 2014-02-06 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tomorrow’s changes are coming. With guidance from this invaluable resource, you can prepare for them today! The tumultuous changes in the business world during the last decade have forced too many to focus on the short term, rushing to figure out how to produce quarterly profits in chaotic conditions. As a result, the longer view is often obscured, leaving businesses so busy fighting today’s battles that they are completely unprepared for tomorrow’s war. The next cataclysmic wave is surging relentlessly ahead, demanding leaders who can steer their companies through complexity and change. In Leadership 2030, six megatrends are uncovered for the forward-thinking leader that will dramatically impact organizations' markets, cultures, systems, and processes: 1. Globalization 2.0: Asia dominates the global economy. 2. Climate change: Sustainability becomes imperative. 3. Individualism: Freedom of choice erodes loyalty. 4. Digitization: Boundaries blur between private and working lives. 5. Demographic changes: Aging populations intensify the talent war. 6. Converging technologies: The sharpest tech shift in history is around the corner. Research findings and case studies, drawn from original research conducted jointly with foresight company Z-Punkt and further analyzed by Hay Group, provide compelling evidence of each megatrend and highlight the skills, capabilities, and attitudes leaders must cultivate in order to maneuver through it all.

Download or read book UNESCO science report written by UNESCO and published by UNESCO Publishing. This book was released on 2015-11-09 with total page 818 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There are fewer grounds today than in the past to deplore a North‑South divide in research and innovation. This is one of the key findings of the UNESCO Science Report: towards 2030. A large number of countries are now incorporating science, technology and innovation in their national development agenda, in order to make their economies less reliant on raw materials and more rooted in knowledge. Most research and development (R&D) is taking place in high-income countries, but innovation of some kind is now occurring across the full spectrum of income levels according to the first survey of manufacturing companies in 65 countries conducted by the UNESCO Institute for Statistics and summarized in this report. For many lower-income countries, sustainable development has become an integral part of their national development plans for the next 10–20 years. Among higher-income countries, a firm commitment to sustainable development is often coupled with the desire to maintain competitiveness in global markets that are increasingly leaning towards ‘green’ technologies. The quest for clean energy and greater energy efficiency now figures among the research priorities of numerous countries. Written by more than 50 experts who are each covering the country or region from which they hail, the UNESCO Science Report: towards 2030 provides more country-level information than ever before. The trends and developments in science, technology and innovation policy and governance between 2009 and mid-2015 described here provide essential baseline information on the concerns and priorities of countries that could orient the implementation and drive the assessment of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in the years to come.
