Download or read book Lectures On Computational Fluid Dynamics Mathematical Physics And Linear Algebra written by Karl Gustafson and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1997-12-18 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book, an outgrowth of the author's distinguished lecture series in Japan in 1995, identifies and describes current results and issues in certain areas of computational fluid dynamics, mathematical physics, and linear algebra. Notable among these are the author's new notion of numerical rotational release for the understanding of correct solution capture when modelling time-dependent higher Reynolds number incompressible flows, the author's fundamental new perspective of wavelets seen as stochastic processes, and the author's new theory of antieigenvalues which has created an entirely new view of iterative methods in computational linear algebra.
Download or read book Introduction to Hydrodynamic Stability written by P. G. Drazin and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2002-09-09 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Instability of flows and their transition to turbulence are widespread phenomena in engineering and the natural environment, and are important in applied mathematics, astrophysics, biology, geophysics, meteorology, oceanography and physics as well as engineering. This is a textbook to introduce these phenomena at a level suitable for a graduate course, by modelling them mathematically, and describing numerical simulations and laboratory experiments. The visualization of instabilities is emphasized, with many figures, and in references to more still and moving pictures. The relation of chaos to transition is discussed at length. Many worked examples and exercises for students illustrate the ideas of the text. Readers are assumed to be fluent in linear algebra, advanced calculus, elementary theory of ordinary differential equations, complex variables and the elements of fluid mechanics. The book is aimed at graduate students but will also be very useful for specialists in other fields.

Download or read book Nonlinear Optical Cavity Dynamics written by Philippe Grelu and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2015-12-14 with total page 565 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: By recirculating light in a nonlinear propagation medium, the nonlinear optical cavity allows for countless options of light transformation and manipulation. In passive media, optical bistability and frequency conversion are central figures. In active media, laser light can be generated with versatile underlying dynamics. Emphasizing on ultrafast dynamics, the vital arena for the information technology, the soliton is a common conceptual keyword, thriving into its modern developments with the closely related denominations of dissipative solitons and cavity solitons. Recent technological breakthroughs in optical cavities, from micro-resonators to ultra-long fiber cavities, have entitled the exploration of nonlinear optical dynamics over unprecedented spatial and temporal orders of magnitude. By gathering key contributions by renowned experts, this book aims at bridging the gap between recent research topics with a view to foster cross-fertilization between research areas and stimulating creative optical engineering design.
Download or read book Bifurcation Analysis of Fluid Flows written by Henk A. Dijkstra and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2023-06-30 with total page 343 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A better understanding of the mechanisms leading a fluid system to exhibit turbulent behavior is one of the grand challenges of the physical and mathematical sciences. Over the last few decades, numerical bifurcation methods have been extended and applied to a number of flow problems to identify critical conditions for fluid instabilities to occur. This book provides a state-of-the-art account of these numerical methods, with much attention to modern linear systems solvers and generalized eigenvalue solvers. These methods also have a broad applicability in industrial, environmental and astrophysical flows. The book is a must-have reference for anyone working in scientific fields where fluid flow instabilities play a role. Exercises at the end of each chapter and Python code for the bifurcation analysis of canonical fluid flow problems provide practice material to get to grips with the methods and concepts presented in the book.

Download or read book Computational Fluid Dynamics Review 1998 In 2 Volumes written by Mohamed M Hafez and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1998-11-20 with total page 1169 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first volume of CFD Review was published in 1995. The purpose of this new publication is to present comprehensive surveys and review articles which provide up-to-date information about recent progress in computational fluid dynamics, on a regular basis. Because of the multidisciplinary nature of CFD, it is difficult to cope with all the important developments in related areas. There are at least ten regular international conferences dealing with different aspects of CFD.It is a real challenge to keep up with all these activities and to be aware of essential and fundamental contributions in these areas. It is hoped that CFD Review will help in this regard by covering the state-of-the-art in this field. The present book contains sixty-two articles written by authors from the US, Europe, Japan and China, covering the main aspects of CFD. There are five sections: general topics, numerical methods, flow physics, interdisciplinary applications, parallel computation and flow visualization. The section on numerical methods includes grids, schemes and solvers, while that on flow physics includes incompressible and compressible flows, hypersonics and gas kinetics as well as transition and turbulence. This book should be useful to all researchers in this fast-developing field.

Download or read book Vortex Dynamics Theories and Applications written by Zambri Harun and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2020-12-09 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book comprises of different areas in which vortex dynamics is important, its generation, evolution, interactions with other motions, and finally the ways it can be controlled. Vortex characteristics are important in many aspects of our lives, from blood circulation in the arteries to the high-speed jet. Flow control and manipulation of vortices have been used to reduce drag for large tankers resulting in billions of dollars in savings. An effective smoke management system must be put in place for critical areas to ensure the safety of people, for example in a very large shopping complex or a large airport. Advanced computational and cloud-computing facilities have contributed significantly to large-scale simulation projects. Therefore, validations could be performed for larger windows of study so that it can now cover the entire e.g. central business district (CBD) for urban heat island (UHI) study or land-ocean interactions.
Download or read book Computational Fluid Dynamics 2002 written by Steve Armfield and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 837 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We are pleased to present the Proceedings of the Second International Conference on Computational Fluid Dynamics held at the University of Sydney, Australia, from July 15 to 19, 2002. The conference was a productive meeting of scientists, mathematicians and engineers involved in the computation of fluid flow. Keynote lectures were presented in the areas of optimisation, algorithms, turbulence and bio-fluid mechanics. Two hundred and fifty abstracts from many countries were received for con sideration. The executive committee, consisting of A. Lerat, M. Napolitano, J.J. Chattot, N. Satofuka and myself, were responsible for the selection of papers. Each of the members had a separate subcommittee to carry out the evaluation. One hundred and seventy papers were selected of which one hundred and fifty two were presented at the conference. All papers that appear in the proceedings have been peer reviewed by a panel of experts (with a minimum of two for every paper) before publication. The conference was attended by 160 delegates with a minimum of late with drawals. The informal and friendly atmosphere provided by the university sur roundings was highly appreciated, and the technical aspects of the conference were stimulating. It is appropriate here to thank Alain Lerat, the retiring secretary of the international scientific committee of the conference. We also wish to welcome J. J. Chattot who is the incoming secretary.
