Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hope: Where Can We Find It? This book has laid down a number of hopeful stories with references from the Bible to some contemporaries of our times. Notwithstanding the trials, temptations, or pain we may go through, we can always hold onto the hope God has extended to us. Believers in Christ and nonbelievers, don't allow your yesterday to steal your today. Your past cannot dictate your today and future. That is what we call hope. Hope backed by faith makes us certain of what we hope for and gives us proof of what we cannot envision. So where can we find hope? The answer is clear and simple. We can only find hope in Jesus Christ. Jesus did not come only to bring us salvation, but he's our only hope too. We have hope because Jesus has forgiven us our sins and has further converted all of us into his icon as children of the father. Jesus is hope. He finds us rest when there's no hope. "Yes, my soul, find rest in God; my Hope comes from him. Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will not be shaken. My salvation and my honor depend on God; he is my mighty rock, my refuge" (Psalms 62:5-7). Have you ever bothered to read into the promises of God to mankind? Hope is found in all the promises God has given his children. You cannot find Hope anywhere, except in Jesus Christ alone. His promises are yes and amen, and he does not take his words back nor change his mind. "God is not human, that he should lie, not a human being, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfill?" (Numbers 23:19) Hope is found in the promises God has given us, so why do you doubt the promises of God? We doubt it because his timing is not ours. The Scripture says in James 1:6, "If we doubt while we ask, we will not receive anything from Him, because we are unsteady. He who doubts is like a wave of the sea blown and tossed by the wind." As salvation is found in no one else but in Christ, so is hope. It's found in no other but in Christ Jesus. Keep your hope alive in Jesus, not in man.

Book excerpt: New York Times bestseller What is Jesus worth to you? It's easy for American Christians to forget how Jesus said his followers would actually live, what their new lifestyle would actually look like. They would, he said, leave behind security, money, convenience, even family for him. They would abandon everything for the gospel. They would take up their crosses daily... But who do you know who lives like that? Do you? In Radical, David Platt challenges you to consider with an open heart how we have manipulated the gospel to fit our cultural preferences. He shows what Jesus actually said about being his disciple--then invites you to believe and obey what you have heard. And he tells the dramatic story of what is happening as a "successful" suburban church decides to get serious about the gospel according to Jesus. Finally, he urges you to join in The Radical Experiment -- a one-year journey in authentic discipleship that will transform how you live in a world that desperately needs the Good News Jesus came to bring.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At its beginning Christianity was surprising, powerful, creative, world-shaking. Today in the West it is many times familiar, common, and expected, losing its power to surprise and transform. We have developed societal amnesia and ignorance of what Christianity originally was – and what it still can be. We need to recover the surprise of Christianity. We need to ask the same fundamental questions as the early Christians, which will help us rediscover the surprising power of Christianity in our midst. Focusing on the surprise of the gospel message takes us into the heart of what it is to understand Christianity at all, and thus what it is to remember and relearn the life-giving power and witness that went with being Christian at the beginning. This remembering and relearning can, in turn, surprise us all over again and chart a course for our witness today.

Book The Evidence of Things Not Seen

Download or read book The Evidence of Things Not Seen written by James Baldwin and published by Henry Holt and Company. This book was released on 2023-01-17 with total page 99 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over twenty-two months in 1979 and 1981 nearly two dozen children were unspeakably murdered in Atlanta despite national attention and outcry; they were all Black. James Baldwin investigated these murders, the Black administration in Atlanta, and Wayne Williams, the Black man tried for the crimes. Because there was only evidence to convict Williams for the murders of two men, the children's cases were closed, offering no justice to the families or the country. Baldwin's incisive analysis implicates the failures of integration as the guilt party, arguing, "There could be no more devastating proof of this assault than the slaughter of the children." As Stacey Abrams writes in her foreword, "The humanity of black children, of black men and women, of black lives, has ever been a conundrum for America. Forty years on, Baldwin's writing reminds us that we have never resolved the core query: Do black lives matter? Unequivocally, the moral answer is yes, but James Baldwin refuses such rhetorical comfort." In this, his last book, by excavating American race relations Baldwin exposes the hard-to-face ingrained issues and demands that we all reckon with them.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After receiving a certain and imminent death sentence from untreatable cancer on Christmas Eve, I was faced with absolute hopelessness. Only in desperation could I find the understanding I needed to witness a season of miracles and intimacy with a God that I took for granted so many years. Within this book are the events and newfound realities that broke the grip of a cancer which had never been beaten by medical science, and the invaluable life lessons birthed in moments of intimacy with the Holy Spirit during that battle. I truly believe there is something for everyone contained within. Miracles are the very glue of the Bible. The miracle of creation opens the book, followed by a multitude of examples of our Heavenly Father intervening supernaturally for His people, all the way to the return of our Savior. Unless God has changed, a concept both the Scripture and theology vehemently reject, miracles are still available and prevalent today. Why are you not seeing the supernatural in your life? Why does fear have such a strong grip on you? What can you do to change those truths? The answers are found within.

Vaneetha Risner contracted polio as an infant, was misdiagnosed, and lived with widespread paralysis. She lived in and out of the hospital for ten years and, after each stay, would return to a life filled with bullying. When she became a Christian, though, she thought things would get easier, and they did: carefree college days, a dream job in Boston, and an MBA from Stanford where she met and married a classmate. But life unraveled. Again. She had four miscarriages. Her son died because of a doctor's mistake. And Vaneetha was diagnosed with post-polio syndrome, meaning she would likely become a quadriplegic. And then her husband betrayed her and moved out, leaving her to raise two adolescent daughters alone. This was not the abundant life she thought God had promised her. But, as Vaneetha discovered, everything she experienced was designed to draw her closer to Christ as she discovered "that intimacy with God in suffering can be breathtakingly beautiful."

If you're reading this, today is your start to becoming a new, improved, and best version of yourself, and it will change your life forever! It changed mine! Now, one thing is for sure: Change is not easy. When you're striving hard to do the right thing and to fulfill your purpose in life, there will be people, places, and things that will try to deter you from walking in your purpose and will try to take you back to the place that you have been delivered from. So brace yourself. It gets harder from here. But even though the road gets rough, God will never leave you. He will give you the strength that you need to get through any situation, joy in the midst of pain, and His peace that passes all understanding; that's all you need. Hope is defined as a feeling of expectation and desire for a certain thing to happen, a feeling of trust. Life has all kinds of disappointments. These disappointments may have started to harden your heart, made you lose hope, or made you live with no expectations at all. Disappointments may have made you believe that expectations are letdowns; if you do not expect things, then you will not be let down. You may have started to always expect the worst for your life, and maybe you have become content with suffering. My friend, Satan thought he had you, but it is time to get your hope back! I love you! Always and forever, Hope
