Book Hope for Hurting Parents Parent Notebook

Download or read book Hope for Hurting Parents Parent Notebook written by Dena Yohe and published by EABooks Publishing. This book was released on 2017-12-31 with total page 150 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Hope for Hurting Parents Parent Notebook is a product of the Hope for Hurting Parents ministry (HopeforHurtingParents.com). It was developed to be used by the parents who attend one of their support groups. These groups help moms and dads with broken hearts due to the choices and behaviors of their teen to adult children. The purpose is to help these parents process their pain with others who understand, instead of isolating in guilt and shame. Hope for Hurting Parents strives to come alongside these brokenhearted to give comfort, encouragement and hope so that they can move from surviving to thriving. These groups can include step-parents and grandparents, too. The Parent Notebook explains what to expect in the support group, introduces the authors, provides group guidelines, and tells what others are saying about these faith-based groups. The notebook also contains the content that is discussed in the meetings. The topics are: grief and loss, enabling, guilt, fear, detachment, worry and anxiety, anger, resentment, letting go, expectations, guarding your marriage, guarding your family, powerlessness and control, communication, waiting, surviving the holidays, courageous love, forgiveness, thankfulness, self-care, expectations, and hope. A page for journaling or note-taking is at the end of each session. The intention is for parents to bring their notebook with them each time they go to a meeting. The Appendix has extra material used in some of the sessions. A list of recommended books, websites, and other resources is a huge bonus. The sessions are beneficial to be read and referred to not just during the support group meetings, but also at home. Hope for Hurting Parents support groups are not high content-driven. The focus is on being safe, confidential, loving communities where parents can be real, share their feelings with others who understand, and won't think less of them or give pat answers. This is a place where they can find the comfort, encouragement, and hope they need for what may be a long, difficult journey.

Book Hope for Hurting Parents Support Group Facilitator Guide

Download or read book Hope for Hurting Parents Support Group Facilitator Guide written by Dena Yohe and published by EABooks Publishing. This book was released on 2017-12-31 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Hope for Hurting Parents Facilitator Guide is to be used to start a support group for parents with broken hearts due to the choices and behaviors of their teen to adult children. The Facilitator Guide includes everything that's needed to get started, plus twenty-two sessions; enough for a whole year if the group meets twice a month (once in November and December). How often you meet is up to you. This guide includes decisions to make before you start your group, practical tips, group guidelines, a sample timeline, ice breaker questions, prayer strategies, and testimonies. The topics of the sessions are: grief and loss, enabling, guilt, fear, detachment, worry and anxiety, anger, resentment, letting go, expectations, guarding your marriage, guarding your family, powerlessness and control, communication, waiting, surviving the holidays, courageous love, forgiveness, thankfulness, self-care, hope, and resilience. Each is a stand-alone session and can be used in any order. It also has a list of recommended books, websites, and other resources. A Parent Notebook is also available to order for group members. It contains the same notes that are in the Facilitator Guide without the instructions. Pages for journaling are at the end of each session. Recommended books are listed at the back. Hope for Hurting Parents support groups are not high content-driven. The focus is on being safe, confidential, loving communities where parents can be real, share their feelings with others who understand, won't think less of them or give pat answers. This is a group where they can find the comfort, encouragement, and hope they need. The emphasis is put on facilitating rather than leading. Your role is not as a teacher or instructor, but a fellow parent sharing content, asking open-ended questions, guiding discussion. You aren't expected to know everything or have your act together. We're all fellow strugglers on the same heartbreaking path. Authenticity and a willingness to be vulnerable with your trials, is your best asset. This material is written from a Christian worldview. Our ultimate source of help has been Jesus Christ. These groups are not Bible studies or prayer meetings, but the Scriptures are used and discussed, and a time of prayer is encouraged. Support groups are a powerful way to bring parents from surviving to thriving. They draw them out of isolation as they journey through some of the most difficult times of their lives. By giving yourself as a facilitator of a Hope for Hurting Parents group you will receive the same comfort, encouragement, and hope. Request a free sample at HopeForHurtingParents.com.

Book A Long Way Off Hope and Healing for Hurting Parents

Download or read book A Long Way Off Hope and Healing for Hurting Parents written by Kitti Murray and published by . This book was released on 2013-01-09 with total page 158 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 2004 I published a book with B&H Publishing Group called A Long Way Off: Hope and Healing for Parents of Prodigals. The book was not about our prodigal, Matt. It was about us, well, mostly about me. About what I did with my broken mom's heart. I wrote the book because... * I couldn't help it. It just kind of oozed out, out of the stack of journals that documented day after day of sorrow and soothing as I poured it all out to God and listened to his Word. * I started meeting parents who felt like I felt. They peeped out from under rocks of shame and defeat to timidly admit things weren't right in their Christian homes. They needed a book, not a book with one-two-three answers or someday-you'll-see optimism, but a book that was down and dirty, that told a story like theirs. . . a story that feels hopeless, but isn't. * I knew there was hope, but I wanted to show people where that hope was: smack in the middle of God Himself. Not in the miracles he might or might not do. Not in vague sentiments about kids or family. Not even in our prayer efforts. Hope for we who hurt over our kids is in Him Alone. Now, eight years later, the book is out of print. You can buy one at a time from individual sellers on Amazon for, like, a buck fifty. A writer's worst nightmare. I'm not asked to speak on Parenting Prodigals at women's retreats anymore. I don't get quite as many calls from distraught moms. And I'm fine with that. Besides, the prodigal days are over at our house. We can sleep at night, we don't dread the ringing of the phone, and we don't have awkward conversations with our own flesh and blood anymore. But not long ago it struck me how callous I'd become on the other (joyful) side of our pain. There are thousands of parents out there inducted into the Hurting Parents Club every day. What about them? And so, I've self-published the book. If you find yourself googling "prodigal" late at night, I hope this book tells you at least some of what you need to hear.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Brokenhearted Parents is for Christian parents who want to heal, deal with, and find spiritual help with the serious pain and hurt they are feeling because of their adult child's choices. Their child's choices can lead to a breakage in the relationship between them and/or God and cause great feelings of grief, frustration, and pain. Some of these choices have caused the child to pull away or leave. Christians know that God intends for them to grow through their hard experiences. But how do they do that? This book is to help parents analyze their feelings by studying the views of God, themselves, and their child. Through this they can process these feelings, come to a deeper level in their walk with God, and find more ways to express the love they have for their child. This book leads them by reading the twelve short devotionals, answering questions, and journaling both in writing and drawing. Parents will also find song references, extra scripture references, and a daily devotional idea they can format for their own use.
