Book Multi Output Production and Duality Theory and Applications

Download or read book Multi Output Production and Duality Theory and Applications written by Rolf Färe and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Our original reason for writing this book was the desire to write down in one place a complete summary of the major results in du ality theory pioneered by Ronald W. Shephard in three of his books, Cost and Production Functions (1953), Theory of Cost and Produc tion Functions (1970), and Indirect Production Functions (1974). In this way, newcomers to the field would have easy access to these important ideas. In adg, ition, we report a few new results of our own. In particular, we show the duality relationship between the profit function and the eight equivalent representations of technol ogy that were elucidated by Shephard. However, in planning the book and discussing it with colleagues it became evident that such a book would be more useful if it also provided a number of applications of Shephard's duality theory to economic problems. Thus, we have also attempted to present exam ples of the use of duality theory in areas such as efficiency measure ment, index number theory, shadow pricing, cost-benefit analysis, and econometric estimation. Much of our thinking about duality theory and its uses has been influenced by our present and former collaborators. They include Charles Blackorby, Shawna Grosskopf, Knox Lovell, Robert Russell, and, not surprisingly, Ronald W. Shephard. We have also benefit ted over the years from many discussions with W. Erwin Diewert.

Book Production Economics A Dual Approach to Theory and Applications

Download or read book Production Economics A Dual Approach to Theory and Applications written by Melvyn Fuss and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-06-28 with total page 361 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Contributions to Economic Analysis: Production Economics: A Dual Approach to Theory and Applications, Volume 2 focuses on the theory of production from the standpoint of the "dual", the relationships between economic observables which are dual to physical technology. The selection first ponders on duality, intermediate inputs and value-added, Hicks' aggregation theorem and the existence of a real value-added function, and homotheticity and real value-added in Canadian manufacturing. Discussions focus on real value-added and the production structure, estimation of the production structure, double deflation and real value-added, measurement of total productivity, and duality between direct and conditional indirect utility functions. The book then examines the estimation techniques for the elasticity of substitution and other production parameters and measurement of the elasticity of factor substitution and bias of technical change. The publication takes a look at the identification of technical change in the electricity generating industry, factor substitution in electricity generation, and the effectiveness of rate-of-return regulation. Topics include statistical tests of regulatory effectiveness, profit function for a regulated firm, tests of the structure of technology, identification problems in the measurement of technical change, and measurement of disembodied technical change. The selection is a valuable source of information for economists and researchers interested in production economics.

Book A Study on the Theory of Production

Download or read book A Study on the Theory of Production written by A.R.Prasad and published by Reliance Publishing House. This book was released on 2005 with total page 526 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Traditional theory of economics has been formulated in mathematical terms and an increasing application of mathematical methods to nearly every branch of economics is increasingly witnessed. Mathematical economics has become an integral part of the syllabi in economics at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Students of economics are also becoming acquainted with mathematics and are learning to use it in economics. Several new textbooks on mathematical treatment of micro-economics have been published but they do scant justice to the beginners by devoting only a few pages to the economic analysis of mathematical formulation. The basic problem is that of teaching economics in mathematical terms. The present textbook is intended for students of economics who possess some knowledge of both economics and mathematics. The selection of topics are indicated by economics, rather than mathematical content and the order of presentation is in consonance with the prescribed syllabi of numerous Indian Universities for undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The book also aims at advanced undergraduate and postgraduate students in economics who often wish to find how mathematics contributes to the understanding of familiar concepts in the theory of production. The object, therefore, is to make the book a self-teaching device that a careful student can work through and master. This does not make classroom teaching unnecessary, but it is certainly going to reduce considerable teaching burden from the teachers shoulders. It is hoped that the comprehensive treatment of the material covered will provide the students with the necessary modern techniques and general theoretical framework with which to approach and analyse the phenomena of production theory in micro-economics.

Book Review of theory of Homogeneous Production Functions by Wolfgand Eichhorn

Download or read book Review of theory of Homogeneous Production Functions by Wolfgand Eichhorn written by Ronald W. Shephard and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 13 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The issue of the recently established and rapidly growing Lecture Notes Series arose (as the author states) from an amalgamation of research on homogeneous production functions, published during the past two years in a variety of journals. It is here put together in a connected form to provide a rigorous and carefully formulated account of a theory for an important class of production functions. Although the exposition is mathematical, it is clearly and understandably put forth with many examples, enabling a limitedly skilled reader of mathematics to easily comprehend the definitions, assumptions and deductions made, yet being a significant account for mathematical economists. Book Migration Urbanization and Development

Download or read book Migration Urbanization and Development written by Richard E. Bilsborrow and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1998 with total page 552 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Internal migration and urbanization are key dimensions of the process of socioeconomic development. The unprecedented movement of peoples within the borders of their own countries is one of the greatest transformations witnessed in the 20th century. Policy analysts, especially those from developing countries where internal migration can be felt at first hand, view migration as one of the most important factors affecting the course of development. It is within this context that UNFPA convened the Symposium on Internal Migration and Urbanization in Developing Countries in January 1996 in preparation for the United Nations World Conference on Human Settlements in Istanbul in June 1996. The final results of the symposium are found in this book. This volume provides a better understanding, at global level, of internal migration issues of concern to policy analysts.
