Book excerpt: [From the back cover] Homeworlds is a game invented by John Cooper in 2001 and played with Looney Pyramids invented by Andrew Looney. -- As exotic as this sounds, Homeworlds, and its 2-player version called Binary Homeworlds, is a deep abstract strategy game with a game tree more complex than Go. It features a 4X Space Theme that requires eXpanding, eXploring, eXploiting, and eXterminating. You start with a Homeworld of two stars, and build a fleet of spaceships with which you are going to discover other starsystems to find your way to your opponent's Homeworld, which you will ultimately invade, attack, and destroy. -- In this volume, you'll find all known rule variants of the classic game, as it developed over 20 years, all clearly explained and ordered into a comprehensive whole. Furthermore, it will introduce you to many variants, including multi-player variants, and game-mechanics variants, that can all be combined in various ways. -- Variants are a way to wrap your mind around the many aspects of the game, as they force you to consider unfamiliar alternatives. If nothing more than the pure enjoyment of experimentation, your mind gets a workout. -- To even the battlefield between a veteran and a cadet, the author has included many new ways of handicapping. It allows two players of different experience levels to play an even game, making it challenging for both. -- Homeworlds has a growing player base and can also be played online. This volume tries to accommodate a growing demand for accuracy in the rules, sample games, variety, and references. -- Do you have an appetite for more brain-burning games? Look out for the follow-up by the same author, describing 10+ games playable with a Homeworlds set that will satisfy young (8+) and old.

Book excerpt: The twentieth century was awash in war. World powers were pouring men and machines onto the killing fields of Europe. Then, in one dramatic stroke, a divided planet was changed forever. An alien race attacked Earth, and for every nation, every human being, new battle lines were drawn. . HOMEWARD BOUND With his epic novels of alternate history, Harry Turtledove shares a stunning vision of what might have been–and what might still be–if one moment in history were changed. In the WorldWar and Colonization series, an ancient, highly advanced alien species found itself locked in a bitter struggle with a distant, rebellious planet–Earth. For those defending the Earth, this all-out war for survival supercharged human technology, made friends of foes, and turned allies into bitter enemies. For the aliens known as the Race, the conflict has yielded dire consequences. Mankind has developed nuclear technology years ahead of schedule, forcing the invaders to accept an uneasy truce with nations that possess the technology to defend themselves. But it is the Americans, with their primitive inventiveness, who discover a way to launch themselves through distant space–and reach the Race’s home planet itself. Now–in the twenty-first century–a few daring men and women embark upon a journey no human has made before. Warriors, diplomats, traitors, and exiles–the humans who arrive in the place called Home find themselves genuine strangers on a strange world, and at the center of a flash point with terrifying potential. For their arrival on the alien home world may drive the enemy to make the ultimate decision–to annihilate an entire planet, rather than allow the human contagion to spread. It may be that nothing can deter them from this course. With its extraordinary cast of characters–human, nonhuman, and some in between–Homeward Bound is a fascinating contemplation of cultures, armies, and individuals in collision. From the novelist USA Today calls “the leading author of alternate history,” this is a novel of vision, adventure, and constant, astounding surprise.

Book Anunnaki Homeworld

  • Author : Jason M. Breshears

Download or read book Anunnaki Homeworld written by Jason M. Breshears and published by . This book was released on 2011-11 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Anunnaki is a legendary race that appears in the oldest documents preserved by mankind. They are said to inhabit an outermost planet that orbits our sun in an extremely elliptical orbit. Each time this planet gets near to the earth it creates planetary cataclysms. Many researchers claim it will be returning soon. The work of Zecharia Sitchin, author of the Earth Chronicles series of books, focuses on the Anunnaki and their previous visits. Many have asked Sitchin, "When will this planet return?" He never gave an exact date, but said it was more than halfway back. Jason Breshears gives an exact year, and does so confidently, due to his extensive research. He delves not only into historical records, as Sitchin had done, but also uses scientific cycles and mathematical formulas that relate to our concepts of planetary time and orbits. The historical records, chronologically presented by Breshears, help in identifying cyclical patterns. He also employs advanced geometry, interprets complex crop circle patterns, and uses biblical prophecy in support of some of the astronomical events he has predicted. He does not cover much on the mythical aspects of the Anunnaki gods themselves, but focuses more on the actual sciences that can predict their return. Ancient stories and carefully documented proof are two different things. For these reasons, this book is highly recommended.
