Book Finding a Spiritual Home

  • Author : Rabbi Sidney Schwarz, PhD
  • Publisher : Turner Publishing Company
  • Release : 2012-07-12
  • ISBN : 158023657X
  • Pages : 432 pages

Download or read book Finding a Spiritual Home written by Rabbi Sidney Schwarz, PhD and published by Turner Publishing Company. This book was released on 2012-07-12 with total page 432 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Jewish community has lost some of the most sensitive spiritual souls of this generation. They are Jews who were looking for God and found spiritual homes outside of Judaism. Their journeys traversed the Jewish community, but nothing there beckoned them. The creation of synagogue-communities in which the voices of seekers can be heard and their questions can be asked will challenge many loyalist Jews. It will upset and enrage them. But it would also enrich them. —from Chapter 18 In this fresh look at the spiritual possibilities of American Jewish life, Rabbi Sidney Schwarz presents the framework for a new synagogue model—the synagogue community—and its promise to transform our understanding of the synagogue and its potential for modern Judaism. Schwarz profiles four innovative synagogues—one from each of the major movements of Judaism—that have had extraordinary success with their approach to congregational life and presents practical ways to replicate their success. Includes a discussion guide for study groups and book clubs as well as a new afterword by the author describing developments in synagogue change projects since the book was first published.

  • ISBN : 9780976904106
  • Pages : 228 pages

Download or read book Transform Yourself written by Patrick Marsolek and published by Inner Workings Resources. This book was released on 2006 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "I enthusiastically endorse Patrick Marsolek?s Self-hypnosis Manual. This is more than a ?how-to? manual. After an orientation to hypnosis, trance, the subconscious, and other relevant subjects, Patrick guides his readers in finding self-hypnosis techniques that work for them. Instead of simply teaching a number of self-hypnosis techniques (like most self-hypnosis manuals), it empowers the learner with an understanding of the induction process and the creation of individualized protocols. Furthermore, the Manual guides the reader through creating specific auto-suggestions to maximize therapeutic results. The Manual also is exceptional in the way that it addresses fears and other hindrances to trance (e.g., beliefs and expectations), stresses the normalness and benefits of self-induced trance, provides helpful application techniques (e.g., dealing with pain), discusses each induction technique, and promotes personal confidence in the process. In sum, Patrick gives the requisite understanding and tools to be ones own best self-hypnosis guide."- Whitney Hibbard Ph.d., Author of "Forensic Hypnosis"

Book Travel and Transformation

Download or read book Travel and Transformation written by Garth Lean and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-02-24 with total page 253 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Travel and tourism have a long association with the notion of transformation, both in terms of self and social collectives. What is surprising, however, is that this association has, on the whole, remained relatively underexplored and unchallenged, with little in the way of a corpus of academic literature surrounding these themes. Instead, much of the literature to date has focused upon describing and categorising tourism and travel experiences from a supply-side perspective, with travellers themselves defined in terms of their motivations and interests. While the tourism field can lay claim to several significant milestone contributions, there have been few recent attempts at a rigorous re-theorization of the issues arising from the travel/transformation nexus. The opportunity to explore the socio-cultural dimensions of transformation through travel has thus far been missed. Bringing together geographers, sociologists, cultural researchers, philosophers, anthropologists, visual researchers, literary scholars and heritage researchers, this volume explores what it means to transform through travel in a modern, mobile world. In doing so, it draws upon a wide variety of traveller perspectives - including tourists, backpackers, lifestyle travellers, migrants, refugees, nomads, walkers, writers, poets, virtual travellers and cosmetic surgery patients - to unpack a cultural phenomenon that has captured the imagination since the very first works of Western literature.
