Book excerpt: Excerpt from Disabled Soldiers and Sailors; Pensions and Training At the moment in the history of civilization when the economic usefulness of the individual worker has been carried to the high est point of progress in the arts and sciences, by the organiza tion of industry and by the accumulation of capital, a world war has suddenly exposed to the risk of disablement a wholly un precedented number of the world's workers. Never before have so many young and able-bodied men been maimed in the same time. Never before would it have been so important to society - to say nothing of their own interest - that they should as quickly and as completely as possible be restored to economic usefulness. Book Employment for Disabled Sailors and Soldiers

Download or read book Employment for Disabled Sailors and Soldiers written by Henry Lesser Rothband and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-11-22 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Employment for Disabled Sailors and Soldiers: A Scheme for a National Roll of Employers The objections to the proposal for a Royal Roll, when after Objections to a many months of correspondence they are finally formulated, boil Royal Roll down to very little, and may be expressed very simply. That considered. It is desirable for Labour Exchanges, if they are to have the task of finding work for the disabled, to be in touch with employers, to have lists of employers willing to employ disabled soldiers and sailors, and even to take steps to compile these lists-all this is obvious and indisputable. Then why should these lists not be compiled in response to a Royal Appeal for all the country at one time, and under the conditions most favourable to those whom it is proposed to benefit The answer, given after long pressure, is this, that the local appeal is to be preferred because under it there can be discrimination between good employers and bad, that this discrimination is impossible under a national appeal, and that labour is distrustful of any proposals which might enable bad employers to take advantage of physical disability or the possession of a pension in order to lower the rate of wages. This is the sum and substance of all the objections that are not mani testations of mere departmentalism. Book The Future of the Disabled Soldier Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Future of the Disabled Soldier Classic Reprint written by Cecil William Hutt and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-11 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Future of the Disabled Soldier I have written this book in the hope that it will help those to whom we owe so much - the men disabled while protecting our hearths and homes from the ravages of the savage enemy. It is sad for those left behind to mourn the loss of a soldier killed in the War. But his fight is over; the wounded men, hindered by their injuries, have still to fight the battle of life. Much is being done to help them. Their Gracious Majesties, the King and Queen, whose sons run the same dangers as their subjects, have set us a noble example in this work as in all others appertaining to the War. Much is due to Queen Mary's encouragement of the efforts made at Roehampton and Brighton, to train these disabled men in skilled occupations. Although much has been done, there is yet still need for further effort. Already the disabled soldier is to be seen begging in the streets. We cannot entirely prevent this degradation, yet we can do away with any necessity for it. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
