Download or read book Home Environment Family Involvement and Emirate College Student Academic Achievement written by Georgia Daleure and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 34 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "In educational literature set in Western contexts, student performance is linked to positive family involvement and home environment; however, literature on the educational experience of college students in non-Western contexts, including the gulf region, is scarce. Using both student and guardian surveys, this quantitative study investigates the effect of home environment and family involvement on the educational experience of students in a federally funded college in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) as well as links between these factors and students' academic achievement. Results indicated that academic performance was linked to specific family involvement behaviors-- categorized as enablers-- financial, logistical, and physical supports; influences-- interaction intended to shape values, opinions and attitudes; and engagements-- direct and demonstrable interaction-- and to specific home environment factors including parents' marital statuses, gender, family size, presence of siblings in college or university, parents' education levels, and mother's working status." --Abstract.

Book EFFECT OF HOME ENVIRONMENT ON EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE ACADEMIC STRESS AMONG STUDENTS

Download or read book EFFECT OF HOME ENVIRONMENT ON EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE ACADEMIC STRESS AMONG STUDENTS written by Bijender Singh and published by . This book was released on 2022-10-31 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The basic problem that all living being face after taking birth is the problem of adaptation to environment mentally, physically, emotionally, socially and professionally. Some creatures have some natural capacities that help them adapt to their environment and no systematic education is needed for this purpose but the case of human is different because of the most dependent being of all the living being known. Family and the society educate the man formally as well as informally to make him dependent. The intellectual power and wisdom that man has over and above other animals help him to receive education. It is the education that helps him to adapt to the environment. It is generally believed that children are educated in schools and colleges. But the truth is that a child receives his education from various sources besides schools and college. American educationist John Dewey defines education as a process of life or development. This development depends upon heredity and environment. Heredity is fixed and definite but environment can be manipulated to be good or bad. Thus, education clearly means the providing of proper environment for the development of the child. The family, the school, the community, the state, the newspapers, the magazines, the radio, the television, the cinema etc. are all the means which provide diverse opportunities for the child to learn something or the other and bring about a modification in his behaviour. All these means are the sources of education. All these agencies of education have their impact upon the growing child as they influence the education or development of the child in their own way directly or indirectly, openly or silently. Hence, through all these agencies education is concerned with the preservation, transmission and development of cultural heritage. Education imparted through informal agencies is natural and incidence. It is imparted in a free atmosphere without any rigid control and direction. These agencies inculcate the desired human qualities and moral values in the child. Home is the first basic informal agency where child learns various theories and principles of conduct and behaviour. Home environment brings the socialization of the child and imbue him with a sense of duty and responsibility. Family is a basic unit of a society where a child born and develop their emotions. Academic development and progress of the students depend upon the parental involvement with the school, their socio-economic status (SES), their education, their attitude and their thoughts. The amount of parent's interest, behaviour and discussion among family members directly affects the student's academic life. Parents are first educator of their children. A child's family and healthy home environment has a positive impact on their language and literacy development and their academic performance. This impact is stronger during the childhood but continues throughout their academic life. Home is the basic place for emotional learning where a child learns how to feel and how to give reaction of feelings, how to read and express hopes and fears and how to express own feelings.

Book Cross cultural Family Environments of High Academic Achievers

Download or read book Cross cultural Family Environments of High Academic Achievers written by Maria Kotsaka Kratsios and published by . This book was released on 2002 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This research breaks new ground in identifying cross-culturally common family environment traits that correlate with children's high academic achievement. A multi- method approach involving both qualitative and well established, validated quantitative research methods was employed to measure the home environment from a social and educational perspective. The modified What is Happening in this Classroom (WIHIC) instrument questionnaire was used to determine if academically successful students and their parents hold similar perceptions of their home environment as an educational environment. The Family Environment Scale (FES) instrument questionnaire was used to measure family social environment for comparison to whole population norms and to identify common behavioral traits among the studied groups. The sample consisted of 180 academically high achieving adolescents and their families from the United States, Japan, and Greece. In addition to its cultural diversity, the study group was widely varied in lifestyle, being drawn from urban, suburban, and rural areas. Interviews conducted by the researcher at the homes of the participants were used to complement the quantitative data and contributed to further understanding of the cultural, social, and ethnic factors that influence home environment. The study identified and describes crossculturally common behavioral traits among the families of academically high achieving students that transcended culture, language, economic status, and geographic location.

Book The Positive Relationships Between Selected Aspects of the Home Environment and Academic Achievement of Hospital Homebound Students

Download or read book The Positive Relationships Between Selected Aspects of the Home Environment and Academic Achievement of Hospital Homebound Students written by Jackie Gardner and published by . This book was released on 2002 with total page 110 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A study of the home environment of 30 Hospital Homebound instructional Program (HHIP) students. the study compared 15 low-achieving HHIP students with 15 high-achieving HHIP students. This study investigated selected educational achievement factors in the home learning environment, specifically a dictionary, thesaurus, computer, and study space in the home, as well as assistance from family members. Results showed that home environments of low achievers were characterized by more limited learning activities, less immediate family member and extended family member academic assistance, less use and availability of dictionaries and thesauruses. Low achiever home learning completion was lower than for high achievers. the study emphasized the importance of the home environment to learning, home learning assignment completion, and student academic achievement. In the home environment of hospital homebound students, an awareness of factors that influence student academic achievement is important for both low achievers as well as high achievers. Varied family members' academic assistance contributed to academic success when immediate and extended family members worked together. Therefore, readily accessible learning aids with committed immediate and extended family member assistance in the home environment impact efforts for students who want to improve academically.
