Download or read book Home Builder s Planning Management Guide written by Edward J. Coppola and published by . This book was released on 2004-01-30 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Homebuilder's Planning & Management Guide was written to help the many people intending to build their own house. This book is in response to the numerous inquiries from those individuals desiring to own their own home, but its lessons also apply to the experienced homebuilder. The book is aimed at helping the first time homebuilder who wants to be manager of his/her own building process. This guide will show you how to be in charge and how to successfully complete the home building project. As a guide, it is intended to help you through the various phases of planning and managing your home building project. Many of the author's clients have paid hundreds of dollars to be counseled in the concepts and suggestions put forward in this book. There are some advantages to constructing the house yourself. One advantage is that you, as the builder, will develop a house that you feel represents your lifestyle, your dream and your personality. Another advantage, is that you have the potential to save a substantial amount of money. By following these basic concepts, you can also save money from unintended or hidden costs that often occur during the building process. Each of the topics covered, is intended to make you aware of the building process, what it consists of and how everything is interrelated. It is not the intention of this book to try and make you a home-building expert. There are many books written on each individual topic, as well as many educational courses, in order for one to prepare to be an expert. What this book will do for you, is make you aware of the building process and aware of the questions you must ask of those people associated with this business, those people with whom you will have to work. If you are not in the business of building or construction, there are certain procedures for planning and building a house that you should learn. The book will review these procedures with you. You should be prepared to plan out your house thoroughly, or you may find out (too late) that the house you ultimately end up with is not really the house you thought you were getting. Due to inadequate planning and control, you may also find that the final cost of the house has far exceeded your original budget. Building your own house can be a rewarding experience from both a personal achievement and from money saving considerations. Follow the guidelines and suggestions in this book and you will potentially save many thousands of dollars while building your home. Good luck and enjoy your new home for many years to come.

This guide prepares the owner to participate more effectively in all phases of the project by preparing them for the experience and by providing guidance and references. The simple process outlined avoids problems, simplifies oversight, makes the process more enjoyable, and saves money by making the process more efficient. With the help of an experienced Construction Advisor, owners can save as much as 20% by actively participating in the planning and management of a custom home or home addition project.

Book Construction Site Planning and Logistical Operations

Download or read book Construction Site Planning and Logistical Operations written by Randy R. Rapp and published by Purdue University Press. This book was released on 2015 with total page 406 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Organizing and administering a construction site so that the right resources get to the right place in a timely fashion demands strong leadership and a rigorous process. Good logistical operations are essential to profitability, and this book is the essential, muddy boots guide to efficient site management. Written by experienced educator-practitioners from the world-leading Building Construction Management program at Purdue University, this volume is the ultimate guide to the knowledge, skills, and abilities that need to be mastered by project superintendents. Observations about leadership imperatives and techniques are included. Organizationally, the book follows site-related activities from bidding to project closeout. Beyond outlining broad project managerial practices, the authors drill into operational issues such as temporary soils and drainage structures, common equipment, and logistics. The content is primarily geared for the manager of a domestic or small commercial building construction project, but includes some reference to public and international work, where techniques, practices, and decision making can be substantially different. The book is structured into five sections and fifteen chapters. This facilitates ready adaptation either to industry training seminars or to university courses: Section I. The Project and Site Pre-Planning: The Construction Project and Site Environment (Randy R. Rapp); Due Diligence (Robert Cox); Site Organization and Layout (James O'Connor). Section II. The Site and Field Engineering Issues: Building Layout (Douglas Keith); Soil and Drainage Issues (Yi Jiang and Randy R. Rapp). Section III. Book The Master s Guide to Homebuilding

Download or read book The Master s Guide to Homebuilding written by S. Earl Thompson and published by Createspace Independent Pub. This book was released on 2012-10-01 with total page 476 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the only book in the country that teaches you how to pre-plan, organize, supervise, and manage an entire homebuilding operation. The book was written as seen through the eyes of a master builder. Many well intentioned people, professional and novice alike, fail in the attempt of homebuilding. The main reason for this failure is not having the correct information in your hands that could keep you out of trouble in a timely manner. Remember this: a little bit of knowledge can be very risky but a lot of knowledge is very rewarding. This book is generally for three groups of people. The first group are folks that are already in the homebuilding business. Maybe they are new to the business and want to add to what they already know. They could be construction superintendents who work for homebuilders and want to hone their skills. They may decide someday to get into the business themselves. The second group with interest are those that want to get into the business. Maybe they've nibbled around the edges of homebuilding but yearned for a good source of fundamental information to give them the confidence they needed in order to make this life altering committment. The third group are folks that definitely need this book are those individuals that want to be the builder to build their own home. They want the home built their way. They want to experience first hand what it's like to be responsible for the entire project. Maybe they don't want to be the builder but they want to be educated on how a good home is supposed to be built. They will use this information to make sure that their builder does what they are supposed to do. They will not be able to be taken advantage of by the builder. All processes of building a home are layed out step by step and include the following: Pre-planning and organization Designing and blueprints Formulating construction costs and budgets Formulating specifications and contracts How to find and pay contractors How to supervise all of the work There is absolutely no reason why your homebuilding experience can't be successful. There is absolutely no excuse for not having "The Master's Guide to Homebuilding" with you at all times. This is that one homebuilding source that will keep your buns out of the fire. I will meet you at the end of your book reading journey. S. Earl Thompson
