Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent world events have forced us to develop new scientific approaches to address social dynamics currently on the verge of rupture. Social problems and drastic changes like the refugee crisis, Brexit, the recent global economic crisis, social uprisings, forced governmental collapses, and increasing inequalities have alerted social scientists to new forms of individual and collective interactions. Researchers are now struggling to develop innovative methodologies to address the current complexity of the social world. Sociocybernetics embraces this challenge by addressing the complexity of social phenomena and processes through the integration of micro-, meso- and macro-levels of analysis. Focusing on a variety of social scenarios, this book addresses the interaction between multiple systems, using theoretical and methodological sociocybernetic approaches.

Book International Responses to Gendered Based Domestic Violence

Download or read book International Responses to Gendered Based Domestic Violence written by Dongling Zhang and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-03-23 with total page 346 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This edited volume represents a joint effort by international experts to analyze the prevalence and nature of gender-based domestic violence across the globe and how it is dealt with at both national and international levels. With studies being conducted in 20 different countries and 4 distinct regions, the contributors to this volume shed light on the ways in which contextual particularities shape the practices and strategies of addressing the socio-cultural and legal problem of gender-based domestic violence in the countries or regions where they do research. Special attention is devoted to developing countries where there is a lack of a consistent legal definition of gender-based domestic violence and where violence against women is widely considered a private matter. The authors of the chapters share a common goal of raising public awareness of the significance in nuanced local experiences of women and other individuals from gender and sexual minority groups facing gender-based violence. Furthermore, the authors attend, analytically, to the newly emerging, overlapping influences of COVID-19 and global warming. Their research findings acknowledge and provide a detailed account of how the two ecological and socio-economic crises can combine to produce economic devastation, disconnect victims from necessary social services and assistance, and create a large degree of panic and uncertainty. In addition, they intend to offer insights into next steps to not only adjust existing public policies, legislation, and social services to the ever-changing national and global contexts, but also to make new ones. The book is intended for a wide range of scholars (both professors and students) and practitioners in a large number of areas, including but not limited to criminal justice, criminology, law, human rights, social justice, social work, nursing, sociology, and political or public affairs.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines subjectivity and neoliberalism in Latin America. The chapters, first published in the journal Subjectivity, cover a range of topics, from work to childcare to violence to university education In the Introduction, Julian Medina Zarate and Flavia Uchoa point out the complex history of the arrival and take-up of neoliberalism across the continent, the deep-seated role of colonial and post-colonial violence, thus the specificity of modes of governance in the complex relationship between the North and the South. The chapter by Antar Martinez Guzman considers the role of neoliberalism in the huge rise in male violence across the country, exploring hyper-violent masculinities in the context of social precarity. Antonio Stecher and Alvaro Soto Roy discuss the transformations in work identities and thus the consequences for subjectivity for workers in three kinds of employment in neoliberal Chile. • Author : Margarita Sáenz-Herrero
  • Publisher : Springer

Download or read book Psychopathology in Women written by Margarita Sáenz-Herrero and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-07-15 with total page 868 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines sex and gender differences in the causes and expression of medical conditions, including mental health disorders. Sex differences are variations attributable to individual reproductive organs and the XX or XY chromosomal complement. Gender differences are variations that result from biological sex as well as individual self-representation which include psychological, behavioural, and social consequences of an individual’s perceived gender. Gender is still a neglected field in psychopathology, and gender differences is often incorrectly used as a synonym of sex differences. A reconsideration of the definition of gender, as the term that subsumes masculinity and femininity, could shed some light on this misperception and could have an effect in the study of health and disease. This second edition of Psychopathology clarifies the anthropological, cultural and social aspects of gender and their impact on mental health disorders. It focuses on gender perspective as a paradigm not only in psychopathology but also in mental health disorders. As such it promotes open mindedness in the definition and perception of symptoms, as well as assumptions about those symptoms, and raises awareness of mental health.
