Book excerpt: As we search for meaning in our world of shallow online relationships and glamorized selfies, many are returning to traditional and liturgical churches. The repeated words, benedictions, and historic hymns connect us to saints who have gone before, giving us a sense of belonging, richness, and transcendence. Written prayers, once cast off as archaic, are now welcomed as guides to tune our hearts to the heart of God. In My Heart, Ever His Barbara Rainey shares 40 prayers for women. They can meditate on one prayer throughout the week or read a prayer a day for 40 days as a way to express the longing of our hearts to our Father who loves us even as he sees who we truly are. Like the psalms of David, these prayers are honest, sometimes raw. Barbara uses these transparent expressions of common experiences to encourage us to surrender to Christ and help us see God as he is, not as we assume him to be. My Heart, Ever His provides a stepping-stone to help you become more transparent with God and discover his welcoming embrace.

Book Her Master s Tools

Book excerpt: This collection of essays, originating in the SBL International Meetings in Berlin (2002) and Cambridge (2003), explores the current reception of historical criticism in feminist biblical studies, pushing the boundaries of past study and opening new vistas for future research. By framing the discussion in the context of the current reevaluation of both historical criticism and feminist exegesis, the contributors highlight the ongoing need to engage methodological issues. In addition, a strong postcolonial emphasis throughout the volume challenges the hegemony of Western biblical interpretation, promoting a format of dialogue and engagement. The collection brings together diverse cultural and geographical perspectives on biblical criticism, with over ten countries represented. Consisting of Western and non-Western perspectives, female and male scholars, junior and senior voices in the field, and a range of feminist scholars situated alongside postcolonial and gender critics, this collection reveals not only the multiplicity of perspectives but also the various transitions in scholarship that have taken place over the past thirty years. Volume contributors include Roland Boer, Athalya Brenner, Ann Graham Brock, Kristin De Troyer, Esther Fuchs, Archie Chi Chung Lee, Joseph Marchal, John Marshall, Hjamil Martínez-Vázquez, Madipoane Masenya (ngwana Mphahlele), Judith McKinlay, Priscilla Geisterfer Nyvlt, Jorunn Økland, Todd Penner, Vernon Robbins, Susanne Scholz, Hanna Stenström, and Caroline Vander Stichele.Paperback edition is available from the Society of Biblical Literature (www.sbl-site.org).

Book How Simple the Solution

Download or read book How Simple the Solution written by The Master Teacher and published by . This book was released on 2010-02 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "As this energy comes into you more and more, everything that you do will become a parable and finally will reach a higher and higher state. You will discover that you have indeed been dreaming. And, as you let go of fear and begin to love, your service in love will become more evident. One of the great teachings of all traditions is, to awaken the energy, you must serve. Jesus teaches it as forgiveness - that you must give yourself away to be free, to detach, to go through this fear threshold. Through this surrender and abandonment, your mind will expand to the reality of you. Remember, this is your transformation, individually. You are the savior of the world. Without you there is no Heaven and no salvation. And I mean you. I am speaking directly now to you in this regard. We love you and we await your return..."

Book Listen to the Silence A Retreat with P re Jacques

Download or read book Listen to the Silence A Retreat with P re Jacques written by Père Jacques Bunel, OCD and published by ICS Publications. This book was released on 2005 with total page 138 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Carmelite nuns at Pontoise invited Père Jacques to give conferences and to preach as retreat master. They received from him a seven-day retreat in the late summer of 1943. This book contains the talks he gave to the nuns: they are inspiring, but also warm-hearted reflections, on questions of key interest to his audience. Among the topics were love for Christ, for His Blessed Mother, the nuns’ Carmelite contemplative prayer life, and their religious observance, but all received deft treatment from this confrere who eventually became famous for his compassionate assistance to the persecuted in World War II. More Information As a diocesan priest Père Jacques Bunel was frequently in demand as a preacher in his home diocese of Rouen (Normandy). Along with his duties as educator in a prep school in Le Havre he spoke at important public occasions. He was chosen to give the sermon that marked the five hundredth anniversary of the death of St. Joan of Arc in the Cathedral of Rouen, the city where she was burned at the stake. Afterwards, when he became a Discalced Carmelite friar (the cover photo shows him on the day he professed his vows), he continued to exercise a preaching ministry. We owe the full texts of those talks (to the Carmelite Nuns of Pontoise), as well as helpful notes and an introduction, to Rev. Dr. Francis J. Murphy. Father Murphy, a diocesan priest who has become a good friend of the Carmelites through his interest in Père Jacques, collaborating with them as he collaborates with his historian colleagues, teaches at Boston College in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts. This collection of talks extends the knowledge Father Murphy has provided to the public in the biography volume he named and published at ICS Publications with the title: Père Jacques, Resplendent in Victory. Book includes 8 photos.
