Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Joe Mallory is a handsome young man gifted by God to run. He passed up options for a college scholarship to care for his ailing mother until God called her home. Joe and his mother believed the voice within our head is the Holy Spirit, who warns us of dangers and encourages actions in our best interest. Joe's mother died leaving no extra cash, only a home with a mortgage and an older vehicle to maintain. Cheryl secretly trained to enter the Olympic games to win a gold medal and impress her dad, who was the CEO of the Olympic committee. The night she planned to tell her dad about her exciting news, she was purposely run over by an automobile and left to die. After two long years recuperating, Cheryl ventured outside her home, only to have an automobile""driven by the same man who previously tried to kill her""chase her wheelchair down a steep hill that led to a park where Joe was running for exercise. She was angry at God for allowing her injuries to take away her chance to run for a gold medal in the Olympic games and meet the man of her dreams. She asked God to forgive her for being angry at him as she felt her body slipping out of her wheelchair, as Joe gave chase to catch her runaway wheelchair and bring it to a stop. Cheryl looked into his eyes and saw love looking back at her, and a fascinating twists-and-turns journey begins with acts of misplaced vengeance and an incredibly captivating love story. Readers will learn how to tune in to the Holy Spirit within their own head and fall in love with Cheryl, Joe Mallory, and other characters revealed in the Holy Spirit Conquers Vengeance.

Book excerpt: Pastor John Piper shows how to sever the clinging roots of sin that ensnare us, including anxiety, pride, shame, impatience, covetousness, bitterness, despondency, and lust in Battling Unbelief. When faith flickers, stoke the fire. No one sins out of duty. We sin because it offers some promise of happiness. That promise enslaves us, until we believe that God is more desirable than life itself (Psalm 63:3). Only the power of God’s superior promises in the gospel can emancipate our hearts from servitude to the shallow promises and fleeting pleasures of sin. Delighting in the bounty of God’s glorious gospel promises will free us for a less sin-encumbered life, to the glory of Christ. Rooted in solid biblical reflection, this book aims to help guide you through the battles to the joys of victory by the power of the gospel and its superior pleasure.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: So, this is my first venture into science fiction, at least for writing it. I've been a huge sci-fi fan all my life: I've seen every Star Trek episode ever made, many of my all-time favorite movies are sci-fi Alien, Predator, A Clockwork Orange, 2001: A Space Odyssey, et. al.. However, I never thought I'd write write it. I've always written fantasy, and fantasy is all I've ever written until now. I have finally entered the arena of sci-fi as a writer, although there are those who think this is more fantasy in space than true sci-fi. Not that that's a terrible thing... So, in any event, Garm ap Avanon is the third and final (?) mortal incarnation of the Spirit of Vengeance. His first was in ancient Rome. In the second, he was a rogue adventurer who lived in the 19th century and traveled all over Asia, Africa and Europe. And now, in his 29th century incarnation he is a rogue adventurer yet again, a world-class martial artists with few if any equals. But, impressive as that obviously is, it's going to take a lot more than that. For he must face not only the unforgiving realities of Vulturnus a savage, primal world that could be a near duplicate of Earth in the Mesozoic Era, dinosaurs and all on the one hand but also, on the other, the forces of a powerful, merciless monarch hell-bent on carving out in the cosmos an empire like that his ancestors, the Conquistadors, carved out on Earth centuries before.

Book Sinners in the Hands of a Loving God

Download or read book Sinners in the Hands of a Loving God written by Brian Zahnd and published by WaterBrook. This book was released on 2017-08-15 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pastor Brian Zahnd began "to question the theology of a wrathful God who delights in punishing sinners, and has started to explore the real nature of Jesus and His Father. The book isn’t only an interesting look at the context of some modern theological ideas; it’s also offers some profound insight into God’s love and eternal plan." —Relevant Magazine (Named one of the Top 10 Books of 2017) God is wrath? Or God is Love? In his famous sermon “Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God,” Puritan revivalist Jonathan Edwards shaped predominating American theology with a vision of God as angry, violent, and retributive. Three centuries later, Brian Zahnd was both mesmerized and terrified by Edwards’s wrathful God. Haunted by fear that crippled his relationship with God, Zahnd spent years praying for a divine experience of hell. What Zahnd experienced instead was the Father’s love—revealed perfectly through Jesus Christ—for all prodigal sons and daughters. In Sinners in the Hands of a Loving God, Zahnd asks important questions like: Is seeing God primarily as wrathful towards sinners true or biblical? Is fearing God a normal expected behavior? And where might the natural implications of this theological framework lead us? Thoughtfully wrestling with subjects like Old Testament genocide, the crucifixion of Jesus, eternal punishment in hell, and the final judgment in Revelation, Zanhd maintains that the summit of divine revelation for sinners is not God is wrath, but God is love.

Book The Culture of Vengeance and the Fate of American Justice

Download or read book The Culture of Vengeance and the Fate of American Justice written by Terry K. Aladjem and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2008-01-14 with total page 177 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: America is driven by vengeance in Terry Aladjem's provocative account – a reactive, public anger that is a threat to democratic justice itself. From the return of the death penalty to the wars on terror and in Iraq, Americans demand retribution and moral certainty; they assert the 'rights of victims' and make pronouncements against 'evil'. Yet for Aladjem this dangerously authoritarian turn has its origins in the tradition of liberal justice itself – in theories of punishment that justify inflicting pain and in the punitive practices that result. Exploring vengeance as the defining problem of our time, Aladjem returns to the theories of Locke, Hegel and Mill. He engages the ancient Greeks, Nietzsche, Paine and Foucault to challenge liberal assumptions about punishment. He interrogates American law, capital punishment and images of justice in the media. He envisions a democratic justice that is better able to contain its vengeance.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “This book walks each of us through the reality checks we need in order to have the marriage we want!” —Shaunti Feldhahn, social researcher and best-selling author of For Women Only In today’s workplace, women are often rewarded for having type A personalities: driven, demanding, ambitious, and strong. Yet when it comes to their marriages, those same traits can backfire. After all, no one goes into marriage hoping for a promotion. What is a wife to do? April Cassidy knows this struggle firsthand. She thought she was a great Christian wife and begged God to make her passive husband into a more loving, involved, godly leader. Instead, God opened her eyes to changes that she needed to make, such as laying down her desire for control and offering genuine, unconditional respect—not just love—to her husband. Cassidy’s conclusions may be as startling to readers as they were to her, but The Peaceful Wife shares how she and many others have learned to reorient their lives to biblical commands—resulting in healthier, happier marriages. In the end, you’ll find The Peaceful Wife a powerful path to God’s design for women to live in full submission to Christ as Lord.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: God blessed Joe Mallory with the ability to run at speeds that defied human capabilities. He used his gift of speed to represent the USA in the next Olympic games. While vacationing in Hawaii, a freelance reporter named Samantha Mitchell made Joe world-famous with her front-page Sports Illustrated story about his life and achievements. He soon received death threats with only two days left of the three-week Hawaiian vacation that made him wonder how he would get off the island alive to see his dreams come true.Cindy was injured, knocked unconscious, and hospitalized from a head-on car accident. Before she passed out, she observed the face of the other driver and saw a very peculiar look in his eyes that troubled her. She and her dad were later sued for millions of dollars. The other driver was reportedly in a coma with life-threatening injuries and wheeled into the courtroom confined to a modified wheelchair specifically designed for him. His injuries made no sense to her. Cindy noticed his medical team, periodically giving him injections. If he was in a coma, why would he be getting injections, she wondered. On one occasion, when she looked over at him lying sideways facing her, he opened only the closest eye to the wheelchair and looked at her to mouth the words "Help me." She nodded her head and watched him nod his before he closed his eye. His medical team was now holding a long needle, getting ready to give him another injection. The jury was ready to return with their verdict, which meant she was running out of time. She had to do something impulsive. She prayed as she rose from her chair and ran across the courtroom not realizing at the time God was about to make her dreams come true.

Book The God I Don t Understand

Download or read book The God I Don t Understand written by Christopher J. H. Wright and published by Zondervan. This book was released on 2009-05-26 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many Christians believe that they have to understand everything about their faith for that faith to be genuine. This isn't true. There are many things we don't understand about God, His Word, and His works. And this is actually one of the greatest things about the Christian faith: that there are areas of mystery that lie beyond the keenest scholarship or even the most profound spiritual exercises. Sadly, for many people these problems raise so many questions and uncertainties that faith itself becomes a struggle. But questions, and even doubts, are part of faith. Chris Wright encourages us to face the limitations of our understanding and to acknowledge the pain and grief they can often cause. In The God I Don't Understand, he focuses on four of the most mysterious subjects in the Bible and reflects upon why it's important to ask questions without having to provide the answer: The problem of evil and suffering. The genocide of the Canaanites. The cross and the crucifixion. The end of the world. "However strongly we believe in divine revelation, we must acknowledge both that God has not revealed everything and that much of what he has revealed is not plain. It is because Dr. Wright confronts biblical problems with a combination of honesty and humility that I warmly commend this book." —John Stott
